Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Up A Bridge For OpenVPN / Tunnel All The Traffic Through The VPS?

I have an Ubuntu VPS running 10.10 x86_64
This is what is in my /etc/network/interfaces right now.

I can get the VPN server running and everything connects fine from the client. I just don't know how to tunnel all the traffic through the VPS because it involves making the bridge which I'm having trouble with. What exactly am I supposed to put in /etc/network/interfaces?

I'm trying to setup openVPN on debian, well this worked. But every client will get the same ip (172.17.0.6 - local it is). how to set my server in bridge mode. I've read about: server-bridge LOCALIP 255.255.0.0 172.17.1.20 172.17.1.100
BUT, my server has no ipv4 address, but only ipv6: 2001:41d0:2:b2d6::542a:74a so I am not sure how I can do this.

I know this has probably been solved multiple times, but I've searched the forum to no avail. I have a PPTP server setup properly with all ports forwarded correctly. A remote machine can connect and authenticate just fine. They get their IP assigned and everything.
The problem is that no traffic is being routed through the tunnel. Or, rather it is but the server doesn't seem to handle it. In a web browser I just get an error message. On a windows client I ran ipconfig and found a gateway address had not been assigned through the VPN tunnel. Could this be the problem? If so, how can I fix it?

I have two firewalls, one primary (fw1) and one fall-back/backup (fw2). On the LAN side the fw's reside in the same LAN segment. I have a client who wants VPN redundancy. So I configured two VPN tunnels for this client. One via fw1 and a backup via fw2. Since the default gateway on the VPN server points to fw1 only the tunnel via fw1 is established. I have OpenVPN running on my Ubuntu Server just fine. I can connect over the Internet and access all my resources on the LAN via bridged mode perfectly. My server only has one LAN card and sits behind my router, which means it has a private IP address of 10.1.1.2....Which brings me to my question. I want to open up access to my friends via OpenVPN, but I don't want them to be able to access other machines on my LAN (e.g. 10.1.1.20). However, I do want them to be able to talk to each other and pass broadcasts (old LAN games), as well as my laptop (let's say 10.1.1.7).I've tried using iptables to block traffic to the LAN (such as .20), to no avail. I've been reading up and it seems as though iptables won't even filter the traffic, as it's passed at a lower layer. Is this true? If so, what do you recommend I do in order to prevent my buddies from accessing the rest of my LAN while siumultaneously allowing broadcasts pass for some very old Windows LAN games (we're talking Windows 9.

I have an openvpn bridge up and running (ubuntu to ubuntu, both in vmware fusion machines on macs). My problem is that I cannot get a connection faster than ~9mbps even though 20+mbps is available. I've been troubleshooting for a while and have tried many fixes. I just now did ethtool tap0 and I think maybe I found it. It says the link is 10mbps. I tried to change it with:
sudo ethtool -s tap0 speed 100
but it says ethtool cant change speed on tap0. How can i define the link speed of tap0?

I've been working with my OpenVPN server for a while, and I have a rather interesting problem. I need to redirect all client traffic through the tunnel except for a couple IP's that need to be resolvable locally. The way I'm doing this is pushing these routes from the server:

I've hidden my server's IP beginning with 199 for security purposes.What I've gathered.I'm assuming that 0.0.0.0 is a kind of code for "everything," so I'm not sure how I could get this to work, but the general idea is that I need a specific IP range (172.16.*) to be resolvable on the LOCAL NETWORK (of the client) meaning it does not go through the VPN tunnel and the client can connect to 172.16.* locally.Is this possible? Routes can be executed through the command line, server "push" or client config options. Any way to get this to work while still routing other traffic through would do, really.
Additional Info: I have the server running on Debian 64-bit and the client running on Windows 7 (although Vista needs to work as well).Client/server configs can be provided if needed.

I installed the PPTP Client [URL] and can successfully connect to my VPN (creates interface ppp0). The problem is, I'm trying to tunnel all of my traffic on my system through the connection. I've seen conflicting howtos and scripts including pptpclient's documentation (the ip-up and ip-down scripts don't work). How does one simply (even if I type it manually) tunnel the traffic?
System Info:
OS: Debian Squeeze, Kernel 2.6.32-5-686
GUI: Gnome (standard one from netisnt unstable install)

I'm new to iptable configuration. I've set up a VPN using DD-WRT on my router and it works fine. However the VPN company does not allow port 25 traffic (in case of spammers) so now I can't get my emails sent out.
I'm guessing I can add some rules to my iptable so that all traffic except port 25 traffic can go out through the VPN tunnel. And hopefully, all port 25 traffic will go out through the normal Internet connection.code...

2. Making the home server accept connections as a gateway and forward anything that comes to it to the ssh tunnel connection of the remote server.
3. Making any client that puts the home server as a gateway in the network configuration gets a the tunnel connection to the remote server.

I am forced to use dhcp because of my router. (although it is a static lease) I think this is where I am hung up. Everything else seems to be working properly though. I'm using Debian Lenny and I want to tunnel rtorrent only through a OpenVPN tunnel. I have a tunnel running, the config file looks like this:

My idea is that I could run a sockd proxy internally that redirects traffic to the openvpn tunnel. I could use the *nix "proxifier" application "tsocks" to make it possible for rtorrent to connect through that proxy (as rtorrent doesn't support proxies). I have trouble configuring sockd as my IP inside the VPN changes every time I connect. This is a config file someone said would help:[URl].. As my IP changes at each connect I don't know what to put in that config file. I have no control over the host side config file.

I currently run openVPN on my Debian box that provides secure ipv4 routing from my laptop to my VPS in a different country (and from there the internet via this box). This works fine. However, id like to sort out ipv6 through this VPN as well as IPV4 and not overly sure how to do it. The remote server itself has native ipv6 configured on device eth0 and it works (ping6, traceroutes all fine,incoming to web servers etc) nicely on dual stack.
How would i go about modifying the config (both client and server if needed) to enable openVPN to act as a tunnel broker to enable the laptop to use the ipv6 through the server as well as the old v4? (the internet connection laptop end will not/does not have native ipv6 from the ISP. Currently im using he-net tunnel broker but id like to run myself through my existing openVPN). VPN config details: Its using UDP, port 1194, creates a TUN interface, redirect-gateway etc and the rest is normal config. Edit:- if it matters the clients are all running windows so i cant use sh scripts to set up stuff client end.

So everything is ok when i start the tutorial with my interface on code...
The only way I can make it work again is by setting the interfaces back to
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
>> then reboot
and after that put back the br0 settings in the interfaces en restart the network.

I have access to a VPN I use when having confidential instant messaging sessions. For the purposes of my work, essentially.I'm a command line kind of guy, and like to use Finch (the shell version of Pidgin) for those.However, when I turn on my OpenVPN connection it routes all traffic through the VPN. Web-browsing, IMing, and I can no longer access other machines on my home network.Can I set OpenVPN to only route traffic I ask through that connection (either by port number or application, or some way I haven't thought of), while other traffic flows through my usual home network?Some kind of local proxy perhaps? Or a dd-wrt box set up as a proxy, connected to OpenVPN?I've played around with the GUI environment too (I have a basic GUI I sometimes use on my main machine) and have installed the full desktop 10.10 on a second machine just to see if I can work it out.

I have installed OpenVPN to use it as an internet gateway butcan't get it to work.OpenVPN installed without any problem. The client can also connect and ping the server but there is no internet traffic.I think it is because of a wrong gateway address which the client gets but I'm not sure. server IP address is 10.8.0.1 and the client can ping this IP but it's default gateway is always 10.8.0.5 which is not accessible from the client.This is my server.conf:

I got it set up in the NetworkManager applet (imported the client.ovpn), but when I connect it sends ALL my traffic through the VPN. I would prefer all accesses to the internet go over my normal default gateway, rather then all the way through to the VPN's default gateway.When I connect through the command line:

I'm running OpenVPN service on both debian server and client. When start connection between client and server, I expect all the computer traffic (except ARP and DHCP requests) go through created tunnel. However, when I capture packets on wlan0 on client (the only connection going outside host) using Wireshark, I can see DNS requests visible and sometimes incoming TCP traffic as well, but most of the traffic is going through tunnel as expected. I provide both configurations of client and server and client routing table for inspection. I changed server address to avoid server exploitation in the case of some big configuration mistake.
Commands to run OpenVPN services are:

I'm using ubuntu server 10.04 with openvpn installed on it. My vpn is working fine, all the users can connect without any issue.My problem is that I'm unable to filter the VPN traffic using openvpn. I can't allow all users to be able to interact with other vpn users. I need to avoid this kind of traffic.I was trying to build an iptables firewall, but I just noticed that my openvpn traffic isn't being filtered by iptables.In FORWARD chain, no matter what rule I use openvpn would continue to allow traffic between my clients. It does appear that openvpn is skipping FORWARD chain?For example:

I have set up an openvpn server on ubuntu via port tcp 443. The server use a public network and almost every ports are blocked (not 443) So when a client connect to the server, if it send traffic needing a blocked port, the connection cannot been etablished of course. So i d like to know if it is possible to redirect all incoming traffic on the server to an other unblocked port (like 443) to bypass firewall.
I dont think openvpn offer this possibility but maybe with linux it is possible..
