Ubuntu Servers :: No Path In Smb.conf File

Mar 21, 2010

I successfully shared a subdirectory of my home directory, using GNOME under Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop. What drives me crazy is that I can't find this directory listed in /etc/samba/smb.conf, in a "path" line. Please tell me where is this directory specified, since smb.conf seems to be the only samba config file.

Ubuntu Servers :: How To Edit The File Ports.conf

Jul 8, 2011

I want to edit the file ports.conf to make Apache to listen only to loopback interface as described [URL]... here ,The text extract follows

Quote:

The Listen directive specifies the port, and optionally the IP address, Apache2 should listen on. If the IP address is not specified,Apache2 will listen on all IP addresses assigned to the machine it runs on. The default value for the Listen directive is 80. Change this to 127.0.0.1:80 to cause Apache2 to listen only on your loopback interface so that it will not be available to the Internet, to (for example) 81 to change the port that it listens on, or leave it as is for normal operation. This directive can be found and changed in its own file, /etc/apache2/ports.conf

But by typing [CODE]sudo vi /etc/apache2/ports.conf [/CODE} and opening the file I am not able to edit the file After going to the Listen Directive I am not able to type 127.0..0.1, Since what I type does not appear on the screen, the Keyboard is not working. How will I be able to edit the ports.conf and other configuration files

I turned my home PC running Ubuntu 10.04 into a server, and so i am so lost, after reading like a 10-20 different guides and/or official docs, I am totally lost.

Also how do I make it so that I can make subdomain(s) on my site? and wth is a name server and where do I get one?

General :: Move A File To Some Path And Create That Path When It Doesn't Exist?

Oct 8, 2010

I use this command:

Code:

find ./ -atime +360

to figure out the files that haven't been accessed since 360 days. The command above will return results like this:

Code:

/uploads/2010/02/some-file-name.ext
/uploads/2009/08/another-file-name.ext
... etc

I'm taking here about tins of directories, thousands of files. I'm looking to find a command that makes me able to move the results above to another path, and to create that path once it doesn't exist like below:

Code:

mv /uploads/2010/02/some-file-name.ext /old-files/uploads/2010/02/some-file-name.ext

But I want the executed command to create this path

Code:

/old-files/uploads/2010/02/

If it doesn't exist.

Ubuntu Networking :: File 'path Omyfile' Has Been Changed On The File System?

May 28, 2010

I have asked this over on Launchpad and have found bugs filed on the eclipse bug tracker but it seems to be going nowhere so I guess ill ask here.

I am using Eclipse for some development work and having saved a file, defocus the eclipse window (to test changes in a browser) when I refocus the eclipse window I get the following error...

The file 'path omyfile' has been changed on the file system.Do you want to replace the editor contents with these changes?

I have searched and searched and this seems to be a CIFS/SAMBA problem. I even found one solution suggesting that changing his mounts from cifs to smbfs fixed his problem however that would appear not to be an option for me since using smbfs in the fstab causes cifs mounts. This problem would seem to occur in Bluefish as well as some other IDE's so it is not an Eclipse issue.

Ubuntu :: GDM Broken - Gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Unable To Load File '/etc/gdm/custom.conf'. No Such File Or Directory

Sep 1, 2011

I've had Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my desktop since it's release. Up until an hour ago, it was working fine. I clicked on an update from the update manager, now booting into a graphical mode is completely broken, (the start-up load hangs at 'Check Battery State ... [0k]'). I restarted my computer, and booted into safe mode, and launched the terminal. This all works fine. I then typed :

Code: sudo gdm start into the command prompt, hoping that I would be able to start things manually. Instead, it spat out this: Code:

gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Unable to load file '/etc/gdm/custom.conf'. No such file or directory.
gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Unable to find users : no seat-id found.
gdm-binary[230]: WARNING: Gdm Display: display lasted 0.070467 seconds

The last line was printed about 8 times, with slightly different times, before it gave up and failed. Some information which might help, I have Gnome 2, Unity and KDE (not sure which version), installed. My graphics card is the GTX 275, and I have driver the Nvidia driver 275.21. So yeah, I think the update has gone and moved custom.conf somewhere, but I have no idea on how to fix it. I have a graphics programming assignment due on Friday and I would be eternally grateful if I could get this fixed well before then.

Is there any way that I can just take the value '/tmp/launch-3ee4fg/' from the output of $DISPLAY and exclude out the filename to the end of the command. I tried using the read command and the IFS variable..apparently IFS does not recognise / I guess.

Ubuntu Servers :: Can't Change Cgi-bin Path In Apache

Ubuntu Servers :: UNC Path In Firefox Not Working?

Dec 19, 2010

I setup Dokuwiki (local use only) and have done some testing. The following works under Windows in IE and Firefox: (Firefox needed some tweaks to open local links. no errors in the console)

[URL]

But it does not work in Ubuntu. I get Firefox can't find the file at ///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg I have to use the locallink plugin, and several clicks, and this syntax for it to work in Ubuntu. [URL] I hate having to open each link using several clicks and even more so, having to make two types of links in my wiki posts! (SMB:// does not work in Windows.)

192.168.0.150 is a WD NAS. I will also be setting up my software RAID 5 that runs on Ubuntu to hold data for clickable in links on the wiki as well. What do I need to do to get Firefox/Ubuntu to be able to click on and use file://///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg

Wirehsark shows NO PACKETS when I click on the link file://///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg, so Firefox is not even trying to find the file! [URL] I have tried epiphany and it did not work either. (No packets being sent either.) This seems to be a Linux issue.

Ubuntu Servers :: Correct Localhost Path For Running Php FTP Script

Feb 16, 2010

how to access a FTP server with php. I've written a script from a tutorial but I'm getting errors with the ftp_get function.

PHP Code:

[code].....

Warning: ftp_get() [function.ftp-get]: Error opening /var/www/download.txt/ in /var/www/gwr/connect.php on line 11

I'm having trouble with the ftp_get function and I believe the problem is with the local server path. In this case var/www/download.txt I've also used a folder in that directory called download in the place of the .txt file and it gives the same errors. Is var/www/ the correct path to tell php where to download the files to? I've experimented with the files permission and nothing has worked. I'm running a standard ubuntu desktop install, Karmic Koala.
