I successfully shared a subdirectory of my home directory, using GNOME under Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop. What drives me crazy is that I can't find this directory listed in /etc/samba/smb.conf, in a "path" line. Please tell me where is this directory specified, since smb.conf seems to be the only samba config file.
View 5 RepliesI tried to setup a dyndns, and ever since I tried to get that setup, I can't access my webmin, or access /etc/hosts/resolv.conf. But I can still access my samba shares I had created before this happened.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm installing Wordpress and I want Hosting Multiple Sites with them. For that I need modify the httpd.conf file but it's empty. Where I can make that changes? These are the changes:
1. Type: LoadModule rewrite_module /libexec/mod_rewrite.so
2. Find the <VirtualHost> section in the httpd.conf file.
3. Find a line in the <VirtualHost> section of the httpd.conf that looks like this: AllowOverride None
3. Replace that line with this line: AllowOverride FileInfo Options
4. On a new line, type ServerAlias *.[URL].
5. Save the httpd.conf file and close it.
I turned my home PC running Ubuntu 10.04 into a server, and so i am so lost, after reading like a 10-20 different guides and/or official docs, I am totally lost.
All I wanted was to create a custom 404 error page...i read about how people edited .htaccess files to customize error pages, i tried and failed also, editing apache2.conf, I got lost and i dont wanna mess up everything and also, how you're supposed to not touch either of those as its not how it should be done and instead you need to edit httpd.conf and i did and FAILED! again...
Also how do I make it so that I can make subdomain(s) on my site? and wth is a name server and where do I get one?

I've just done a fresh install of Lubuntu 10.10 on an older Sony Vaio laptop. Having learned the hard way about editing xorg files, I wanted to create a backup of the xorg.conf file so that I dont have to do another install when I screw everything up. In a terminal, I typed

accidentally I do something wrong with my server and the httpd folder missing and I need it to setup my mail server and anyone can help me what can I do without reinstalling my Cent OS? Here is the error msg :

I am using Eclipse for some development work and having saved a file, defocus the eclipse window (to test changes in a browser) when I refocus the eclipse window I get the following error...
The file 'path omyfile' has been changed on the file system.Do you want to replace the editor contents with these changes?
I have searched and searched and this seems to be a CIFS/SAMBA problem. I even found one solution suggesting that changing his mounts from cifs to smbfs fixed his problem however that would appear not to be an option for me since using smbfs in the fstab causes cifs mounts. This problem would seem to occur in Bluefish as well as some other IDE's so it is not an Eclipse issue.

I've had Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my desktop since it's release. Up until an hour ago, it was working fine. I clicked on an update from the update manager, now booting into a graphical mode is completely broken, (the start-up load hangs at 'Check Battery State ... [0k]'). I restarted my computer, and booted into safe mode, and launched the terminal. This all works fine. I then typed :

The last line was printed about 8 times, with slightly different times, before it gave up and failed. Some information which might help, I have Gnome 2, Unity and KDE (not sure which version), installed. My graphics card is the GTX 275, and I have driver the Nvidia driver 275.21. So yeah, I think the update has gone and moved custom.conf somewhere, but I have no idea on how to fix it. I have a graphics programming assignment due on Friday and I would be eternally grateful if I could get this fixed well before then.

View 8 Replies View RelatedInstalled Apache and the default web root was /var/www I wanted to change the cgi-bin to somewhere within the /var/www but I cannot. It only works at /usr/lib/cgi-bin. I am trying to work out the Python CGI to be precise. It works at /usr/lib/cgi-bin but gives a 404 at other places like /home/aj/public_html/cgi-bin or /var/www/cgi-bin.I even tried it with putting a webroot directory in my home directory with a cgi-bin in it and made the changes accordingly in the conf. but the only way it works is when cgi-bin settings point to /usr/lib/cgi-bin otherwise it gives 404.

But it does not work in Ubuntu. I get Firefox can't find the file at ///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg I have to use the locallink plugin, and several clicks, and this syntax for it to work in Ubuntu. [URL] I hate having to open each link using several clicks and even more so, having to make two types of links in my wiki posts! (SMB:// does not work in Windows.)
192.168.0.150 is a WD NAS. I will also be setting up my software RAID 5 that runs on Ubuntu to hold data for clickable in links on the wiki as well. What do I need to do to get Firefox/Ubuntu to be able to click on and use file://///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg
Wirehsark shows NO PACKETS when I click on the link file://///192.168.0.150/images/test.jpg, so Firefox is not even trying to find the file! [URL] I have tried epiphany and it did not work either. (No packets being sent either.) This seems to be a Linux issue.
On a freshly installed Ubuntu server 11.04 I noticed that the /dev/disk/by-path directory (and of course it's contents) are missing:

Is there boilerplate available for creating the .load and .conf files? I am having trouble finding it in what's been installed.
I currently have 3 drives installed to be used as a file server.
1 holds the Ubuntu OS
The other is the file server drive with 1 additional for backup using raid1.
2 Questions:
1) How do I get to the drive or Raid device to put files on the drive using command line (the 2 drives are sda & sdc that are connected to the raid1 device)?

I'm having trouble with the ftp_get function and I believe the problem is with the local server path. In this case var/www/download.txt I've also used a folder in that directory called download in the place of the .txt file and it gives the same errors. Is var/www/ the correct path to tell php where to download the files to? I've experimented with the files permission and nothing has worked. I'm running a standard ubuntu desktop install, Karmic Koala.
