Ubuntu Servers :: Error: Open With O_CREAT In Second Argument Needs 3 Arguments
Jan 18, 2010
I get the following error when I try and "make" complile simscan. I beleive this is an Gcc issue?
/usr/include/bits/fcntl2.h:51: error: call to '__open_missing_mode' declared with attribute error: open with O_CREAT in second argument needs 3 arguments
make[2]: *** [simscanmk.o] Error 1

i am trying to update my system from a new clean install that i made i am running the update from yast and i am getting the listed message:
Code: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: rpmdb: /var/lib/rpm/Basenames: unexpected file type or format error: cannot open Basenames index using db3 - Invalid argument (22)
I'm trying to write a base script which will divide an argument by 10 and then use that argument in another program. Since my argument can be a floating point number, I used bc to accomplish this. Here's an example of a simplified version of what I have so far:
<code>NUM=$(echo "scale=25;$1/10" | bc) #make sure the first argument was formatted correctly if [ $? -ne 0 ]
We're using condor at work to have cluster processing of java jobs. I know how to tell condor to require that a given job should be run on a particular slot. You can put on the Requirements string in the submit file a "Name" value(s) -->
Example: Requirements = ".. Name == slot1@host*.domain.net || Name == slot2@host*.domain.net"
Which would tell condor to only run that job on slots 1 or 2. But what I need next is some way to have condor modify the arguments string depending on the slot it used. Our condor blades have 8 slots per machine but only two CUDA Tesla cards per host, so I want to dedicate slots 1 and 2 for using the Teslas and slots 3-8 for not using CUDA.
My java code has a java '-D' property so I can tell it to use CUDA or not, but then I have to have a way to configure condor to append that to the job arguments if the slot is 1 or 2 or not append it otherwise; So I want this arguments list passed for slot1 or 2
"Main.start -Djava.library.path=/usr/local/cuda/lib64 -Dcuda" and this for slots 3-8: "Main.start -Djava.library.path=/usr/local/cuda/lib64"
I don't want to just make the developers hack their submit files to put the -Dcuda on the arguments line in combo with their adding the Name entry for slot1 | slot2 because that seems error prone to me. I want condor itself to add the JVM -Dcuda argument when it's slot 1 or 2 to reduce errors because these jobs take a long time and a mistake wastes lots of time.
I am on Ubuntu 10.04, running Squid 2.7.STABLE7 Squid refuses to start on my machine unless I give it the -D argument (disable initial DNS tests). I think this is because my machine is offline while I'm testing it, so no DNS server. how to set Upstart to start Squid with the -D argument?
I'm trying to compile the hidtouch driver, but hit a snag. The error I get is
[code]....
Context: this is the driver for the touchscreen attached to an LTSP client. The server uses the AMD64 arch, the client uses the 1386 arch, both Debian. The client does start, but lacking a pointer device the pointer is useless. The build takes place on the server, in the i386 chroot of the LTSP setup. Basically, I'm stuck now...
My hard drives kept dropping out of the raid array, so I finally identified the problem as a bad sata cable. I redid the wires and now when I try to assemble I get this:
Code:
mdadm -v --assemble --scan /dev/md0 mdadm: looking for devices for /dev/md0 mdadm: no recogniseable superblock on /dev/sde4
I just upgraded from jaunty and somewhere in the process (or just after, I'm no longer sure just when it started) I started getting this error whenever I try to install or upgrade a package. Some of my software isn't working properly - some won't even load - so I'm not sure if the installations are actually succeeding, or not. But apt-get install -f shows nothing but a list of stuff I need to autoremove (mostly dev files). This particular message is the output of the details tab in synaptic, but I've gotten the same thing in terminal from apt-get. Quote:

I have a system with 2 hard drives (Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP) on them. Grub allows me to select which system to boot to.
Ubuntu 10.10 has stopped working (not loading gnome graphical interface) for some reason.
I can boot to a command line (after many errors on screen). When I try the command "gnome-terminal" I get: "Failed to Parse Arguments: Cannot open display:"
i downloaded baldurs gate II shadows of amn iso's, because i lost one of the CD's to the box, but anyways, I went to mount the third .ISO for installation, and BAM! my computer froze, so i waited five minutes, came back, and still frozen. shut it down for 20 minutes, pulled it back up, and it's got this error as follows; "Mount: mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/65b0a6a-a366-435a-a086-58428cfe2bd1 on /root Failed: invalid argument
while trying to open synaptic package manager i get the following errer "E: The package clamav-daemon needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it. E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report."
I am running Red Hat with 2.6.18-194.8.1.el5PAE kernel version. I am trying to run encryptfs to encrypt a partition on my hard drive. One of the kernel modules necessary is the md5.ko. I noticed it wasn't loaded in when doing an lsmod. I tried running modprobe md5 and it fails to load:
I'm running ubuntu 9.04 and trying to pull over some files via the GUI from a XP box over locally. I'm getting this error:"error while copying file into /volcano/tunes invalid argument" (under show more details)If I just copy over a mp3 file it works fine but the when I copy the entire directory I get this error.
I have an old PC with two hard drives (40 and 60Gb) and it uses dual IGhz pIII processors. It shares screen, mouse and keyboard with another PC.Both into Netgear modem. It ran ubuntu 8.04 and XP Pro on the drives above with no problems. Then I decided to try Mint 11 (34bit CD) - result after Grub blank screen other than flashing cursor at top left.No input from keyboard. Tried Mint KDE 10 (34bit DVD) same result. Tried Kubuntu 10 (CD) same result. Reinstalled Ubuntu 8.04 no problem. Upgraded via download from 8.04 to 10LTS hoping that this would somehow prevent the problem and have screen which says:-
starting up [000000] ACPI no DMI BIOS year,ACPI =force is required to enable acpi mount: mounting none on /dev failed: No such device udevd[825]: error getting socket: Invalid argument error initialising netlink socket udevd[825] error initialising netlink socket libudev: udev_monitor_new_from_netlink:error getting socket:Invalid argument Segmentation fault Gave up waiting for root device.Common problems: Boot args (cat/proc/cmmdline) Check root delay (Did the system wait long enough) Check root (did the sytem wait for the right device) Missing modules (cat/proc/modules; 1s /dev) ALERT! dev/disc/by-uuid/"long number here" does not exist.Dropping to a shell.
Then it goes into Busybox and ends with "initramfs". I have tried altering the boot device in BIOS from HDD0 through 3 with the same result other than more bad language!
I want to get my PS3 Eyetoy working as a webcam on my Ubuntu box for use with Skype etc. When plugged in, the camera portion works fine and is recognised immediately. However, I am unable to get the microphone working. It appears to be recognised, but there isn't anything captured from it.
I have removed PulseAudio as it was interfering with my quest to get 5.1 working over HDMI passthrough in XBMC.
I did have it working briefly, but I must have changed something, and now I cannot get it to work for love, nor money!
This is what my system finds:
Code: $ arecord -l **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** card 1: CameraB409241 [USB Camera-B4.09.24.1], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 I have tried alsamixer -c 1, but that gives me the following error:
I've been using cyrus and sendmail together for a very very long time now. Just recently I upgraded to fedora 13 and now my virtual users can not send email from the /etc/sasldb2 passwords. I get in the /var/log/messages sendmail[31427]: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: Unknown error: Its weird that they can still log in and get email from imapd.conf
I even tried re-creating sasldb2 and sasldblistusers2 shows my two users 'one' that is also a local user account and the saslauthd authenticates when sending emails, but the virtual user 'two' can't send just only can log in to receive. /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd is set up as mech=pam. but I don't see how that would be relevant to this issue.
I've just moved a server across to CentOS 5.5 64-bit and I have been trying to get some custom software running on it. However I'm getting an unusual error during run time: sched_setaffinity: Invalid argument I've had this software working on a old versions of Gentoo (2.6.12-gentoo-r6) and Fedora. And the latest version of Ubuntu server 10.04.1. (All 64 bit). It looks remarkable similar to: Core test failed on s390x RHEL6 If v7 bug fix and enhancement update has been incorporated into CentOS 5.5 64 bit yet? Or how I might find out.
I'm having some difficulities with truecrypt and cannot figure out what's wrong since this is my first attempt to create hidden encrypted partition. I'm using ubuntu 9.10 64b with latest 6.3a truecrypt. After using truecrypt gui (just command truecrypt) I've tried: create volume-->create volumne within a partition/drive-->hidden trucrypt volume --> select some /dev/sdX by my choice --> select aes & sha512 --> password --> and format it.
when formating finished message "wrong ss, swith or wrong superblock of /dev/loop0" appeared. I've got no idea what could I do with it neither know whats program trying to do! Ok formating's done, then if you're trying to mount that partition then I would expect prompt for password, but that did not happen ...
EDIT: sudo mount /dev/loop0 /media/tmp/ also complaint about wrong superblock, but that does not ring any bell since i've got no idea what /dev/loop0 is or is for...
I am trying to do some bandwidth management testing, so I have developed a small script for doing so. When I try to run it it gives the error <error> RTNETLINK answers: invalid argument</error>. I have searched the net, and so far they say it has to do something with the kernel support.
the script: <code> tc qdisc add dev eth1 root handle 1: htb tc class add dev eth1 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 2mbit ceil 2mbit tc class add dev eth1 parent 1:1 classid 1:10 htb rate 600kbit ceil 2mbit prio 2 tc class add dev eth1 parent 1:1 classid 1:20 htb rate 1400kbit ceil 2mbit tc class add dev eth1 parent 1:20 classid 20:100 htb rate 700kbit ceil 2mbit prio 0 #when running this command it gives the error tc class add dev eth1 parent 1:20 classid 20:200 htb rate 700kbit ceil 2mbit pro 1 </code>
I am running this script on a virtual machine that has ubuntu 9.04 installed.
I loaded Avast anti virus into Ubuntu 10.10 this morning. It seemed to go okay and uploaded the updates. But then it stopped. Now when I try to start it I get the following error message. 'An error occurred in avast! engine: Invalid argument'
I am compiling the code has hash_map getting following error

I'm running Kubuntu Karmic on my Dell Inspiron laptop - about 200 bug fixes behind because my only available internet is a cellular connection on a crappy wi-fi router - and last night, I suspended it, but it shut down instead. Not a problem, it does this fairly often, figure the RAM gets jostled or something.
But when I go to boot it up, it gets stuck at the pre-loading screen before getting garbled and dropping to the shell, where it says "mount: mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/[insert hex code here] failed: invalid argument". Of course, mounting /root/sys, /root/dev and /root/proc fails, (directory does not exist) and it gives me the busybox initramfs prompt.
I'm having trouble getting subversion working on Centos 4.7. When I try to create a repository using:
Code: svnadmin create /path/to/repo I get: Code:
svn: Berkeley DB error while creating environment for filesystem repo/db: Invalid argument svn: bdb: Berkeley DB library configured to support only DB_PRIVATE environments
I've searched the Net, with little luck. Threads seem to suggest that Centos has this flag compiled into the Berkeley DB RPM by default; whereas SVN doesn't want it. Someone, somewhere, must have got this to work and I'm sure it's something really simple I'm doing wrong.
I'm trying to mount my new Western Digital Elements 2tb hard drive, but every time I try to plug it into the computer I get this error message:
Quote:
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 12: Failed to read last sector (3907027119): Invalid argument
HINTS: Either the volume is a RAID/LDM but it wasn't setup yet, or it was not setup correctly (e.g. by not using mdadm --build ...), or a wrong device is tried to be mounted, or the partition table is corrupt (partition is smaller than NTFS),
[code].....
But when I tried opening the hard drive from nautilus I still got the same error message as above (no other volumes was connected at the time). I've also tried opening and watching it in GParted, and I can see it there as a volume that's not allocated. When I tried to allocate the hard it I got the message that it had no partition table. And that I cold make one. I tried and Ubuntu suggested to make a MS-DOS partition table for it. But there I got a little scared as I've not done this before. The external hard drive is brand new and was brought today. And I don't have the possibility to test it with Windows or Mac as I'm using Linux only on my machines.
I updated my system from FC13 2.6.34.7-66 to 2.6.34.8-68 for both the kernel and the kmod-wl RPM's. After doing so, iwconfig wlan0 key 1234567890 no longer works. I get an error indicating 'invalid argument'. If I reboot using the previous kernel/wl.ko module, it works The size of the wl.ko module increased in size by almost 30%. Did I somehow get the wrong RPM?
