Jun 3, 2010I'm new at using Ubuntu, I really need to use XAMPP / LAMPP for testing my websites. The problem is that, I can't save files to the HTDOCS of my XAMPP.

Ubuntu :: Move Xampp's Root Directory From /opt/lampp/htdocs To /home/private/htdocs
Dec 2, 2010i was trying to move xampp's root directory from /opt/lampp/htdocs to /home/private/htdocs (in order to use Ubuntu One) but when i restarted apache i got "permission denied" when i tried to load the index page.so i said to my self...hey..let's chmod
i entered this three commands in terminal:

sudo chmod -R 755 /home/private/htdocs
sudo chmod 755 /home/private
sudo chmod 755 /home
('private' is my username)
after a couple of seconds everything begun to disapper, shortcuts on my desktop, my wallpaper...all.i even tried to execute another command with sudo but i got a nice error message that said i don't have permissions to execute bla bla.now i can't even log into my user.

Sep 10, 2010i'm a new Ubuntu user and starting with programming, i've already installed XAMPP for LINUX at /opt directory and the Eclipse app to code php, java etc.When I try to write or create a file inside htdocs XAMPP directory the Eclipse outputs this message to me:"Parent of resource: /opt/lampp/htdocs/site/includes/include.php is marked as read-only./ opt/ lampp/ htdocs/site/includes/include.php (Permission denied)"Whats the matter with this possible error?

Feb 27, 2011I have my final project and that is. 3 laptops connected to each other using switch and each of it is running ubuntu. One of the laptops is used as a web server. I installed already the xampp but my problem is I don't know how to save file in htdocs. In addition, I have no idea how my website in webserver can be viewed by 2 other laptops. It's just an intranet no need to be viewed through internet.

Jul 6, 2010I've installed Apache 2 on Ubuntu linux 10.04 as a simple LAN site for testing PHP scripts. But even though I've deleted the default index.html file in htdocs, changed the index file to index.php, put an index.php, chmoded to 775, and gave ownership of the folder to my account, it will not update any of the files. Any time I go to 127.0.1.1 or 127.0.0.1 (Both work, somehow), it has the "It works!" page instead of the page I put there. And yes, I've tried restarting apache, restarting my computer, etc. What's the problem and/or how do I fix it?
tl;dr: Apache keeps displaying the "It works" page even though I've replaced it. How do I fix it?

Feb 8, 2010I'm using ubuntu 9.10 64bit and I'want to configure php mysql and lampp. Also the package mysql-ser is already installed, so if I install MYSQL GUI tools(Administrator, query browser..) from my synaptic package manager will it detect the mysql already installed ? Also tried configuring lampp by extracting it in my /opt directory and i started the server, which MySQL ll it detect the one which was previously installed otr the oin that in gui tools ?
Also think the current ubuntu repository does't have latest build of mysql GUI tools, so how the above mentioned things ll change if I try to download the individual package.
Oveall what I want is to configure Mysql GUI tools, Mysql workbench, xampp and php(For this I'm using Bluefish and Komposer). Please help me out so that I can leave windows for my Web-projects.

Jul 23, 2010i would like to know how many connections per sec/min/hour, xampp can handle. I'm going to run SMF forum on my box, because i'm not ready yet with real server solution. System stats are: G31M-S2C; 2x2GB Kingston@920Mhz; E5200@3500Mhz; 500GB@7200 Seagate, all powered by Lucid x64. In a time i will migrate to a quad, mobo with raid support, etc. but at that point i'm want to know how much connections can xampp handle. Because of the forum nature, i think of auto deleting topics witn no new replys in 5 days for saving place (there will be minimum 1 and maybe max 5 photos per thread, maximum size 2Mb for each).

Sep 29, 2010I have recently set up my web server using the LAMPP package for Ubuntu. Now I'm running Ubuntu Server 10 so my machine boots into the console and not gdm. Also I have my machine autologin as root so I can simply turn my server on and not mess around with logins. Now I created a simple shellscript for starting lampp and then I put it into etc/init.d/, chmod -x file.sh to give it executable permissions, then I update-rc.d file.sh defaults but nothing happens on startup. It simple takes me to the console and nothing more happens. I have to manually start lampp on every bootup.

Jan 13, 2010I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu.It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.

Feb 9, 2010I am very new to linux but not to computers. The transition from Windows to Ubuntu was seamless, it is very easy to use and I really like linux so far, until it came time to save a file. I find it very hard to believe that every time you create a document of file that you need to be logged in as root to save it or at least that's what everyone is telling me.

I also tried extracting the file to another folder with success, but when I tried dragging and dropping the folder to the htdocs folder I had no luck. I cant write to the folder.

First, I thought it was because I didn't have permission on my account, so I switched to localadmin (i don't know if all Linux distros come with a localadmin account, but i know localadmin has "higher" permissions than, but less that root, of course). When I tried to change the default image for a new one I created using GIMP, I saved it as a *.png file. Yet, when I looked at the saved file - it was actually a *.xcf file (which I've never even heard of before).What gives?ensure it is saved with a png extension when I select png extension, instead of the xcf extension it seems intent on saving as?The image was originally a jpg, if that makes any difference. I can't see as it does though. When I was on Windoze, I used Paint Shop Pro - and if I told it to save a file with a png extension, it amazingly saved it with a png extension
