I'm want to get some logs from my server, but not general logs like syslog that gives me a lot of random logs. I want to know how I can get logs of things like logins(with time, IP and username), commands that the user ran, process running at the time and things like this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Grsync and I want to be able to plug in any drive into my laptop and run rsync on it to back up all the user documents on there to another external hdd and to exclude everything else. Working on the principle that user documents don't always appear where we'd expect I want rsync to look through the whole drive and filter what it backs up by file type. I am only having partial success, however.
I am using the 'filter' option in the 'additional options' box. I am using the command

and I am attaching the filter file I have written. (I have added the .txt extention to upload it).
I have tested this script on my home folder and here's what's going wrong. Rsync will copy the entire directory structure regardless of whether there are any files to be copied over in those directories. I am also getting only some file types getting included and not others. .odt and .ods files are copied, for instance, but not .doc or .rtf.
I'm using VSFTP in my ubuntu server and I want FTP to show me only the /var/www directory and its files/sub-directories. How can I do this? This has to do with vsftp.conf?Also I've read is recommended to make a user only for FTP, thus limiting its access to the desired directory. How can I do such thing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just set up my own server and basically my folder is on say /media/disk1/ and my girlfriends is on /media/patato/ is there a way i can set it so that if i log in it goes to my folder and if she does it goes to hers.... I've currently got it set up as /media/ that it goes to but i cant get it to change it for each user (we can also browse each others drive and we dont want that, we want to be tied into /media/ourdirectory and all of its subdirectories) problem is that it is running on a computer that use to be functional (same install because I cant find my disk drive) so it cant use home folders....

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just put together a 10.04 server using a GA-D525TUD atom board. I've installed gnome desktop too. I'm trying to get 4 sata drives to go into standby, but hdparm seems to be ignoring the settings. If i issue hdparm -y /dev/sdx the drive duly goes into standby and stays in standby until accessed. I've put entries in rc.local along with the hdparm.conf settings, but still no joy.

Is there a way to bind specific programs to specific network devices (not IPs, since I have dynamic IPs)?
For example, I wish for irssi to route through eth0 and w3m to route through eth1. Keep in mind these devices have dynamic IPs, so I cannot attached them to an IP.
The solution cannot be accomplished through route since route pivots on IPs not devices.

I am trying to figure this out and it seems I can't So, I have a server which hosts various domains, each domain with multiple subdomains. All websites are set up with "VirtualHost" and they all work properly.The problem I'm having is that if I enter any subdomain of the main domain, I can still reach the webpage.Is there some way of telling apache to DROP / display a forbidden message for all subdomains which are not listed in the VirtualHosts?

I'm basically running a stock config w/ a few minor edits to allow the relevant hosts access etc.now I am trying to find an easy way to specify privoxy to not filter a specific site (which it breaks). I have tried wading through the privoxy manual + google but I find the config file incredibly complicated. View 3 Replies View RelatedWe're using condor at work to have cluster processing of java jobs. I know how to tell condor to require that a given job should be run on a particular slot. You can put on the Requirements string in the submit file a "Name" value(s) -->
Example:
Requirements = ".. Name == slot1@host*.domain.net || Name == slot2@host*.domain.net"
Which would tell condor to only run that job on slots 1 or 2. But what I need next is some way to have condor modify the arguments string depending on the slot it used. Our condor blades have 8 slots per machine but only two CUDA Tesla cards per host, so I want to dedicate slots 1 and 2 for using the Teslas and slots 3-8 for not using CUDA.
My java code has a java '-D' property so I can tell it to use CUDA or not, but then I
have to have a way to configure condor to append that to the job arguments if
the slot is 1 or 2 or not append it otherwise; So I want this arguments list passed for slot1 or 2
"Main.start -Djava.library.path=/usr/local/cuda/lib64 -Dcuda"
and this for slots 3-8:
"Main.start -Djava.library.path=/usr/local/cuda/lib64"
I don't want to just make the developers hack their submit files to put the
-Dcuda on the arguments line in combo with their adding the Name entry for
slot1 | slot2 because that seems error prone to me.
I want condor itself to add the JVM -Dcuda argument when it's slot 1 or 2 to reduce errors because these jobs take a long time and a mistake wastes lots of time.
I am thinking about writing a script to search through specific folders on a Linux based server (Centos 5) and report any changes made to any file on that server.Like a detailed change log with the date it was changed and the difference in size. Dose anyone know if such a script exist?

I'm trying to configure our mail server to block email from a specific sender reaching a specific recipient. In other words, if one of our employees is getting harassed by a 'stalker', how would one go about blocking, at the MTA (Sendmail) level, a specific sender email address from reaching a particular users inbox? We do not want to capture the email - simply block it before it consumes server resources.The Sendmail server (MTA) is a front end to our Exchange server so no user accounts exist on the Linux server. We simply use it as a SPAM and Virus scanner then forward clean email to the Exchange server.

I've come to the point where I want to create a graphical tree in Draw to present an idea and then add this document into writer. I've tried to use Insert -> Object -> OLE Object, and add the document as an inline frame. This looked pretty ugly though, either it's too small or there seems to be no way to just resize the frame without stretching the whole document into unreadability.
