I have just received my new tuner card which I thought was supposed to be easy to run, a HVR-950Q, no luck yet. But first I am trying to use something called mysql (new to me), for mythtv and [I] keep getting

for some reason root lost grant privileges and I can't get it back. The user got grant_priv = 'Y' in the usertable. I've tried to reset all the priviliges to the user by killing MySQL process and started up again without grant options with no luck. I set up a servber on my local machine, & also PHp - Both working fine.I'm trying to load up MYSQL i have installed it, & *can* start/stop the server. however if I do anything else with it, I get this error :-

When login through root on HP-tru Unix server, I am trying to access a directory, it is saying "Permission Denied".. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is a STAMP, 1.6GHz, P4, RAM 1GHz, onboard Intel sound/video etc. There were two partitions, C: drive and D: drive. I had Ubuntu 10.10 and no other O/S installed.
I installed 11.04 Beta from a Live CD Alternate last week and have since upgraded a couple of times to what must now be the LTS. Lots of good stuff and it's why I'm a committed user. I have two problems:
In the install, I kept the two, almost equal partitions (each about 36GB) as well as the Swap of about 3.3GB. The previous format had been Ext4 and NTFS; I now reformatted and made them both Ext4.
The C: has of course all the system and apps, with the basic folder structure HOME, etc. In trying to set up certain programmes to 'Save to' the D: - or indeed just trying to copy/move anything into it, I get: - "Error ... Access denied. Could not write to ... etc. OR ... etc does not exist"!
I've checked under the 'System/Administration/Users & Groups/ Users Settings/Group Settings. For Root, I've entered myself - who should have anyway had Administrator privileges. Also rebooted, but still no change.
What must I do to get use of my D: drive?
Windows clients experience an issue of being unable to create folders inside the new share I setup. I do not want any share security on this folder since its a global share that our entire office houses client information. They can view the contents but not add it.
My smb.conf has the following settings on the share

I'm installing Ubuntu 10.04 for a friend, dual booting it with windows vista. The installation was going just fine up until the 4th step- partitioning the drives. After designating space for vista and ubuntu and running it, it popped up the window and displayed 0%... for the next hour. After looking around on ubuntu forums for a solution, I tried manually partitioning the drives in vista. Vista wouldn't let me, saying that access was denied. I tried using gparted next, which had an error with it as well. Does anyone know what i can do to work around this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with my webdav share. I have a secure webdav folder that gets accessed via a non-standard port and requires basic authentication. I can connect and interact with it fine via cadaver. However, when I try to connect from nautilus, it says "Access was denied." To make it even stranger, sometimes I can click on the folder in nautilus (it still mounts) and access it. Sometimes not (just repeats the error message and won't show me the contents). I may not even un-mount it, but just look at other folder, then click it again and be able to access it, but again - only rarely.
I asked a friend to try connecting from his windows vista computer and it would not work. It would not work from my windows XP virtual computer either. However, it mounts and works just find from my work computer (also Windows XP).
So it seems to be a 50/50 chance that the drive will mount on any given computer/system and work. Do anyone know what the problem may be? I'm guessing user permissions, but I can't figure out what.
I've made sure the webdav folder is owned by www-data and www-data has read access to the password file as well.

i put a windows program on my ubuntu pc and it's a portable program so i had to add a shortcut to the menu myself, well, i got the shortcut added but when i click it, it says that it cannot access it and it also says Permission Denied.

Both hard drives are mounted properly and I can access the data on both hard drives. I can access the small 80GB HDD via ssh from another computer and delete files, but when I try to access the 500GB drive via ssh it says access denied. When I try to access it with root, I can access it but I cannot see any files listed.

I get the following message when i try to accessmy other Laptop,"you might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request"P.S : If i have only local IP i am able to see both the systems and i am able to access my printer, this problem comes only when i add global IP to both the machines.And also i have stopped the firewall and other things.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Fedora 12 on my computer. Now I can't connect to the net. Under network I show the two connections (neither working). The "connect" and "disconnect" AND the "delete" buttons are all grayed out (?). I also can't log in as root to try to gain more access. Probably just a new way of doing things. I was upgrading from F7 so it was a bit of a jump.
Does the network utility work differently from 7? Am I now rootless? It would seem that my wifi card sees the net as I can see the routers out there, but can't connect. I'm sure I'm using the correct WEP.
Today I tried to move an amsn skin into the right folder but the following message appears:

drwxrwsrwx ....... file_name
However the owner of the file can still read/write this file.
AND:
0) not the problem of execution, just read/write
1) not the problem of device because regular user can read/write it.
2) the result of command id:
uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root)
so I don't think it's the problem of group.
