Ubuntu :: Tab Key / Arrow Keys Not Working When On Firefox
Aug 14, 2010This is a weird problem I am facing right now. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) Firefox 3.6.3. The tab key, the arrow keys and the page down / up keys dont work anymore. They're working fine in any other application, like Chrome.
The keys were fine till yesterday and suddenly they have stopped responding.

Fedora :: Left And Up Arrow Keys Not Working?
Apr 6, 2010I just installed fc12 on a Dell Latitude E6500 laptop. Everything is fine except that my Left and Up arrow keys are inactive so .e.g. I can't review bash history.
In the "keyboard preferences" GUI the keyboard model is "evdev-managed keyboard" (although I have also tried without success the model specific for this laptop) and the only layout is "USA".
Have done an update of all packages without fixing this problem.

Nov 30, 2010Two days ago, the down arrow cursor key quit working on my usb keyboard. I could go up, or left and right, but not down. I figured the key was broke and pulled out a PS/2 keyboard and plugged it in. Problem seemed to be solved.This morning, the down arrow cursor key again was not working. I thought that was a weird coincidence, so I plugged in the old usb keyboard, and the down arrow cursor key was again working!

Dec 6, 2010I am having a java program which will read characters from console. i have started my program from bash shell and now the program starts and waiting for the inputs. Say I have typed text , "hello". If i try to move the cursor position back wards using the left arrow button it was not working. Instead some junk characters are printed on the console like ^[[C .

Fedora Hardware :: RIGHT ARROW / INSERT Accidental Keypress Stops Mouse Buttons From Working?
Jul 9, 2010Here's a weird one. Once in a while I inadvertantly hit the key combination RIGHT-ARROW + INSERT on my keyboard while editing in Geany. This stops my mouse buttons from working and I have to kill xorg. Anyone heard of this before or how to fix it? I know I know, I should stop hitting those keys by accident, but it seems to happen at least once a day! This is on Fedora 12.

Nov 20, 2010How can I remap arrow keys to windows key + ijkl? I can do this easily in Autohotkey on windows, but I'm struggling on Ubuntu.
I'd really like the solution to work independently of whether I'm using a window manager or not, and to involve modifying as few files as possible; I work on a lots of different machines and am always building new ones, so would like to minimise reconfig effort.
I've tried to understand .Xmodmap, but couldn't make it work (was hard to find detailed docs on modifier keys). Am also considering win+hjkl!

Jul 6, 2011I am having a lot of problems with hitting the arrow keys while typing. At least, I think that's what it is. Maybe the page up/down/back buttons, too. Is there a way to disable one or more keys on the keyboard via software, other than going into BIOS? It's getting annoying having to retype stuff over and over. I guess maybe I'm just not used to my new keyboard, is all. But I never use those buttons and likely never will.

Jan 2, 2010Recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.1. Great OS. One minor issue with the keyboard.
When playing games, both for Linux and through wine, the game will respond as if the up and left arrow keys are being constantly held down.
It acts like this in Cave Story (Linux version), Sonic Adventure DX Directors Cut: Demo A Version (Wine), and Star Trek Legacy (Wine).
This does not occur when using any non-game applications on my system, such as Open Office. This does not occur when using anything on the Internet, such as simply typing or Internet games.
Other Info, may or may not be helpful: Used ubuntu 8.04 previously, erased old ubuntu partition when upgrading. Arrow Keys responded fine for all applications listed above. Have a Microsoft Windows XP partition as well, only use it for applications that don't run in wine.

Some specific awk commands would execute correctly but when I tried to use an up arrow to re-run the command that particular command was not present in my history. Apr 24, 2010I'm using rxvt-unicode version 9.06 at Ubuntu 9.10. I was used to aterm, where you can use SHIFT + up/down arrow to scroll the printed output with a line up or down. You can also use SHIFT + pgup/pgdown to scroll one screen up or down.In urxvt I can use the pgup/pgdown combination as well, but can't use the up/down arrow combination. It is very useful to be able to scroll by single lines. Do you have any idea how to enable the up/down arrow scrolling?

Jan 17, 2010I saw a similar thrad, but can't find it anymore. Anyhow it was not resolved. So I take the liberty to post this in a new thread: I have installed ubuntu 9.10 on a laptop in dual boot configuration (other OS is WinXP). grub starts and I can hit enter to boot Ubuntu. However as soon as I use an arrow key to move downwards in the menu, grub hangs. In this condition I cannot boot any other OS, not even the "safe" version of Ubuntu.
Any idea what is the cause of this? It is a fresh installation and I read in the other thread that reinstalling grub or re-running grub-update had no positive effect. Does anone know how I can install grub 0.97 ? Where do I find it?

Sep 11, 2010If the arrowhead points up, the standard behavior is to sort with lower values first and higher values later. In my ubuntu install, it does the opposite. Names and dates sort descending when the arrow points up.

Ubuntu :: The Gnome Main Menu Arrow Doesn't Work
Jan 7, 2011I've just read this thread: [URL] and the information it seems is a bit out of date and a risk to use. I felt more comfortable with the .gtkrc-2.0 file suggested a few posts in, but it doesn't work, in that it turns the panel to the Raleigh-themed one which we always get when there's some kind of error in a gtkrc file, as those of us that have dabbled in theming will know.
It's comical that this minor but unnecessary eyesore goes back so far and hasn't been dealt with, but is there any new info about this, a new method, for 10.10? I don't want to be doing compiling or to risk messing things up, as has been caused by the directions in the other thread, because I've been experimenting with different distros for two years, just bought a new hard drive, and have settled now.
Maybe someone here knows why the .gtkrc-2.0 file hasn't worked for me? I twigged that the panel (though not the rest of the theme, i.e. in program windows) had turned to Raleigh because of those ugly handles pertaining to the Window List panel applet and the one to the left of the notification area. I used the exact file in that other thread, I tried logging out and in and then rebooting, and I even tried pasting the file's contents into the gtkrc file of the theme I use. If you need to know, I'm using the 'Lush' Metacity window border and the 'Redmond' engine.
