Ubuntu :: Remove Password From Maxtor One Touch II
May 26, 2010
I have a Maxtor One Touch II external drive that was locked with a password using a utility that maxtor provided. I have the password. Does anyone know how to unlock the drive from ubuntu?
Worst case, I can find a XP machine, install the maxtor program, and remove the password. I would prefer to not have to install anything though.

I plug in my Maxtor 1TB external USB drive, and here's what dmesg says:
Code:
[ 82.480054] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 7
[ 82.660052] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -62
[ 82.950076] usb 3-2: device descriptor read/64, error -62[code]...
lsusb produces no results, and "fdisk -l" yields nothing as well. The drive is not recognised as /dev/sdb1 as it was until yesterday.

I have a Onetouch 4 mini 160GB I bought a year ago. I t used to work fine but all of a sudden it started to become a problem device. My home pc has two operating systems on it: Windows 7 and ubuntu 10.04 lucid. the drive often fails to load on both systems. Sometimes it's recognized, but the reads are very slow and opening a folder on the drive takes around 120 seconds. Itried reformatting the whole drive, chicking it with chkdsk but it didn't help. Now I have around 70 GB of data on the drive. On my office pc I don't have such a problem and the drive works fine.
My home pc has an Asus P5B motherboard and intel core 2 duo cpu. I tried unplugging other usb devices, plugging in the extra power cord (data + data/power) and it didn't help. The drive also makes beeping sounds when I try to browes the files on it. I'm sure thid is not OS related as both Windows and Linux have the same issue. This is the output of dmesg | tail command on linux. You can see the os keeeps "resetting" the drive:
[Code]....

I want to install tomcat so i followed the steps mentioned in below link: [URL] After going through the steps i checked for
Code:
./startup.sh
but it showed me the error
Code:
touch: cannot touch `/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/logs/catalina.out': No such file or directory
/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/bin/catalina.sh: line 372: /usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/logs/catalina.out: No such file or directory
when i went through my "/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/" there was no "logs" folder so i tried
Code:
find / -name catalina.out
but it returned nothing.BTW i have installed "apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src", "java-1.6.0". Please if any one could look into the problem and provide me the solution to error mentioned above and why there is no "logs" directory in "/usr/share/apache-tomcat-6.0.32-src/".

I would like to use as much FOSS as possible, particularly with touch screen computers. Is it possible to run Ubuntu with touch and/or multi touch capabilities? If so, will an HP Touch Smart computer run Ubuntu? I would very much like to purchase said machine via Linux Foundation discounts if this is the case.

Having recently installed Ubuntu 10.10, I'm currently looking around for different programs. However, it's already getting on my nerves that I have to type my password every time I want to install something. Where and how do I disable this? I already set myself as admin in the user settings but that doesn't seem to work.
This goes for things like changing system settings too, it's really annoying.

I have an HTPC box that I'd like to make a bit more accommodating to the other folks in my apartment. Is it possible to allow them to install and update software without entering a password? Obviously, I wouldn't want to open access to the repo list or packages from the web.

I pay $85 for each of my ebooks and have my UoP password and username to open them. The problem is that I want to move them to my kindle dx which does not support the password part of the pdf file. How can I remove the password protect from this file. Each page is password protected, but I only have to put in my password one time and it opens the whole ebook. However, on the kindle dx, the cursor does not go to the username or password box, so i can't open it on my kindle.I tried buying and using a PDF restrictions remover but all it does is say "Restrictions Removed" but the password protect is still on when I transfer it to the kindle.

I've just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.10 x86 in a 4 gig pendrive.Just one ext4 partition for / and /home and a swap partition. Only one user created during installation.Everything's fine so far except for two things:-If I launch synaptic from the start menu, it asks for my password which I type in or even copy-paste to be sure.Strangely it always comes back saying incorrect password. If I open a terminal and call "sudo synaptic" and type in my password when prompted, the application shows up fine. Again if I do the same via the Run dialog (alt+F2), that is "sudo synaptic", nothing comes up. If I just type "synaptic", a pop up says that as a user I won't be able to install anything and blah-blah, and the application displays properly

The reason I want to delete the LUKS password is simply that I do not want to have to put it in for each server just to get the system to boot. I am planning to cluster the servers as well and like I said before I don't want to put the password in each time since they won't be running all the time.

I know I can ssh login without password from a local to a remote. My question is how I can ssh without password from the remote to another remote. Say, I have three machines: A, B, C where A is the local machine. I use the same private/public key pair for all the login. What I can do are:
1. ssh from A to B.
2. ssh from A to C.
3. If I am sitting in the computer B (or B is local), then I can ssh from B to C.
What I am not able to do is:
After I ssh from A to B, I cannot ssh from the B to C. When I try to ssh from B to C, it asks me a passphrase.

I searched around and it seems like other people are having similar issues with multi-touch on Lucid, although my specific problem hasn't been brought up. I have an Eee PC 900A that I upgraded from 8.10 to 10.04. In 8.10, two-finger tapping was processed as a middle click, and two finger scrolling worked perfectly with the other functions.
After upgrading to 10.04, a two-finger tap is now the same as a right click, and middle click is three-finger tap. There does not seem to be any place in the touchpad settings to adjust this.
What's more, if I enable two-finger scrolling in the touchpad settings, the two-finger tapping suddenly stops working. If is change scrolling to edge or disabled, the multi-finger tap functionality comes back again. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?

I've been trying desperately to try to sync my iPod to play songs from it and to add songs to it. I've tried Rhythmbox, Amarok, and iTunes through Wine, but none of them will even acknowledge that a device has been connected. When I connect my iPod while in Rhythmbox, a device called "Unknown Device" pops up for just a second, then disappears. This computer is running only Ubuntu now so I'm pretty desperate to find a way to be able to sync my iPod.

I just put a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 on my HP Pavilion dv9000, and everything seems to be running well except for my touchpad! When I boot up into Ubuntu, the mouse works at the log in screen, but the second I sign in, it stops.
A USB powered mouse works, but not the touchpad. I even booted up from a live USB to make sure that it's not a hardware problem, and it worked there. Is there any way I can fix this easily? I don't want to have to do a fresh install, because I put all of my files back on it again as well as installed a bunch of applications and programs.

So since I rather use a mouse, I've disabled it, the problem is, it only keeps disabled for a few minutes, later it works again. So I want to keep disabled until I enable it again, any suggestions?

Where is the "disable touch pad while typing" preference stored and how can I alter it without using the GUI?I have written a script to disable my touch pad, but if the "disable touch pad while typing" preference is on it the touch pad will reactivate its self after I type. Clearly the "disable touch pad while typing" preference must be stored somewhere, if someone could tell me where I could alter my script to disable the preference along with my touch pad.
