I'm fairly new to Linux and very new to Squid and am having authentication issues! I am using Oracle Enterprise Linux (which is basically Red Hat without the branding) and wanting to use Squid Proxy Server for web access with authentication to Active Directory. I've found a number of articles about this online and all of them say to use auth program squid_ldap_conf which should be in /usr/lib/squid/. I don't have a squid directory in /usr/lib for starters and my squid binaries are in /etc/squid but there is no squid_ldap_conf in there either. I have installed the latest version of Squid (3.0) to see if that helped but I still cannot find the authorisation program.

On my web server, I would like to be able to access the /var/ftp directory through a web browser. I have successfully done so with Google Chrome, but I cannot access the directory in Firefox or IE. Both FF and IE ask me for authentication but then time out attempting to load the directory.
I suspect that there may be something up with switching to passive mode and/or that this issue may be more with my configuration of Firefox and not with the server (seeing as how Chrome works). Another possibility may be related to SSL. When I connect with FileZilla, I have to use the FTP over Explicit SSL/TLS option in order to connect. In any case I still would like to fix it. I would also like to avoid having to install FireFTP if at all possible.
Steps to reproduce (not that you can without my actual IP =J):
* Open Chrome
* Go to ftp://1.2.3.4
* Enter username
* Enter password

I've been running a Samba server under RedHat 8 for five years without a hiccup. I want to cut over to a F10 box but cannot get shares accessible. smbclient attempts fail over NT password error. SELinux is disabled. Server is visible on the network. Users require no password access to shared data.
smb.conf follows:
# Samba config file created using SWAT
# from UNKNOWN (>)
# Date: 2009/06/12 14:15:15

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am setting up Fedora-13 with "389 directory server" for authentication. I had performed the following steps.
1. Install FD-13.
2. Yum install 389-ds.
3. Run script to configure.
4. Start 389-condole and create few group and user for testing.
I can see these user with "ldapsearch" and with "phpldapadmin". It looks my server is responding. However, I am unable to see any user name with "getent passwd". also "ssh server_user@server" is not able to login. Whereas "getent passwd" shows local user and "ssh local_user@server" is able to login. Also note that I am not using ssl, so want to avoid ssl.
I'm using squid 2.6, Win2008 AD server. Clients are using winxp, win7. how to config squid for the authentication with win2008 AD?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a squid server currently running with basic authentication. This is a must because we constantly have different people using different machines but the rules must be set per user, not per machine.
We also have a lot of users coming and going. So every time a new user comes to the office I have to manually create a user for him so he can authenticate.
Anyway.. We do not have any windows servers so no Active Directory. But I need some solution to pass the windows login to Squid.
First question: It seems I am using NTLM currently for samba as the person can map their home directories on their windows box withuot authenticating. Why can I not use it for squid?
Second question: Can I make my Centos server into an AD server?
I am trying to build a ftp server with vsftpd. In general, I am not able to log in. I can only log in to the ftp server, if that same user is logged in to the server. I found out that this has to with my network setup. I am using OpenLDAP for centralized authentication and home directories are stored on an NFS server. The problem is that regular users are not allowed to log in to servers, therefore their home directories are not mounted. However I want to be able to give my users access to the ftp server without their home directories mounted. Is this possible with vsftpd and if so how do get this up and running. By the way, anonymous users are not allowed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHeres what I have and what I am looking to do. I have a PC with a single core 2 Ghz Pentium processor and 1 gb of RAM. Its pretty limited in what it can do and run. It has two physical HDDs one a 250 GB SATA and the other a 160GB SATA. One the two hard drives I have the following partition structure:
160 GB HDD
28 GB Ubuntu OS Partition
2 GB Swap Partition
130 GB Free Partition (EXT4 but empty)
250 GB HDD
250 GB Free Partition (EXT4 but empty)
What I would like to do is the following:
1. Strip down Ubuntu 10.04 to where only the bare minimums run and system resources (Since they are so scarce on this system anyway) be readily available
2. Have the system run solely as a Samba File server for all other computers in the house to read and write to
3. Allow other "known" systems to access the shared folder without authentication, but any system with an unknown name, should have to authenticate first
4. Have the 130 GB from HDA and 250 GB from HDB, be presented as one network drive of 380 GB as opposed to two of 130 and 250 gb respectively
Are these things that are possible for a person of mid level understanding of Linux? How would one set about achieving all of the above goals?
I was trying to have access from a browser to the squirrelmail configtest page in my server, making some changes, I accidentaly remove the directory webmail. After I replace it with a backup apache2 can not start. This is what I have. Syntax error on line 281 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of [URL].. closed. But I am sure there is a ?> at the end of this file.Base on what I read on [URL]...-with-the-tag/ I test without the ?> also, but I got the same error.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to be able to get squid or dansguardian to authenticate a user account against active directory so that a users browsing activities can be logged.
I can find lots a very useful info on how to set up ntlm_auth etc, but all of these methods produce a pop up window when the user launches the browser.
I'm posting this thread because I would like to be able to authenicate, but without a pop up window. Is there a way of automatically carrying out this authentication so that the user is unaware of it.
We've previously attempted authenticating against an NT4 PDC, but the users worked out that they could use any user account on the network, not just the user that was logged in which kinda defeated the whole idea of logging the users activity.
My current setup is:
Windows 2003 AD
Windows XP Clients, soon to be converted to windows 7.
Fedora 11 running squid and dansguardian.
I installed a server called Oracle VM Manager, which is actually a web based application to manage Oracle VM server.After successfully installed everything, it suppose to be access by browser using But strange thing is, I can see web pages from the server itself with but any other machines to access it with hostname or ip address all failed.

It appeared to be working ok until I turned on SSL and basic Authentication.I even verified in my subversion.conf httpd configuration file that it is pointing to the correct password file. When I attempt to access it from my web browser, it prompts me for a user name and password, but it will not let me log in. I tried to disable SSL thinking that that might have been the problem, but I get the same results either way. Can anyone please help me resolve this problem?

I'm going away for the weekend and will only be able to bring my laptop that has the latest release of Ubuntu on it. My question is: will i be able to access my company's Terminal Server site [URL] from browser in Linux, and be able to launch the applications? (Outlook, etc.) Seems to connect to Windows Server 2008. If this works in Linux, that would make my life a lot easier..

I can ssh into the box from work via putty, but I can't use the proxy. I get a message "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" I can use the proxy from my home network, and have watched the tcpdump for port 3128 while using the proxy. I have turned off iptables completely (I'm not sure yet how to just allow squid)...

View 3 Replies View RelatedBeen a while since I last posted here, though I stop by often. Unfortunately I find myself in a bit of a pickle again. Here's the situation. I have an RHEL3u5 server running Apache 2.0.48 and an equivalent of Tomcat and JBoss. IBM's WebSphere Application Server 6.0.2 to be exact, the Apache also being one of their flavors (IBMIHS).
Everything's been going dandy since forever, but lately the httpd processes seemingly just hit a brick wall of some unknown kind. Checking the /server-status page reveals a whole lot of piling up "waits".
The funny part is that the load average rarely goes higher than 1.0, I/O seems within limits, memory usage as far as I can tell seems fine, disk usage appears all good... I would've felt more at ease if something did shoot through the roof, but there's just nothing to go on. It's definitely Apache getting its knickers all in a twist as well since I can access the servlet engine's web GUI just fine over its dedicated port via browser.
Here's what I noticed so far: Apache processes rise steadily to over 35 or so, after which it all goes south fast. As a result and as a temporary fix, I've enabled a cronjob that checks the amount of httpd processes and just restarts Apache if they're above 28. So far this seems to keep things sort of happy, but obviously I'm still twitchy with the overall state of affairs. I do not have the settings immediately at hand, but here are some further details so far:
Server spec:
8 x Xeon CPUs
8GB RAM
I'll post further details probably on Monday, specifically key portions of the httpd.conf file.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a server running Ubuntu server edition with SMB server all set up and running. I've set up the main root of the drive to be shared and I've set up a user in /etc/samba/smbusers to say root = "joeflood" so I can sign in as root using the username "joeflood". This works and I have read/write access to the filesystem (yay!). However, if I browse to /home/javawag (my main user home directory), I no longer have write permissions! I can see all the files in there and read them no problem, but writing is a no-go. I'm logged in as root though?! Btw, I can login via SSH and create folders/etc as root in the /home/javawag folder, and they showed up in the SMB mount on my mac too.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a file server on my network. It is accessed mainly by linux machines throught NFS, but sometimes I need to access it from windows, and I managed to get Samba up and running with only one share with no password, which is what I want.My users have their "private" folders which are just chmodded 700, and under NFS it works fine, but on samba I get, of course, access denied.How can I configure samba so that it asks a password to access those directory? They can become separate shares, and have their own username and passwords (not the ones in /etc/passwd in the server), I don't care.
