I have two computers. One has to stay Windows the other is Ubuntu. I had installed Ubuntu as a wubi install on that windows machine. I uninstalled via add/remove programs but the loader is still there. How do I get rid of that? It's not a big issue cause I just set Windows as the first boot whith a 3 second time so it loads right up. Just want to know how.

I tried booting from m 10.04 disc, going into Disk Utility and changing the file system to NTFS no luck. Tried burning another copy of XP and still same error. Now I burned a copy of Windows 7(desperate times call for desperate measures) but its on a DVD-R instead of a CD-R and every time I try to boot it, Linux just boots.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to install VMware workstation 7.1.4- but I've run into a problem. Due some bugs i've had to install vmware a couple of times. Now one time I removed /etc/vmware before uninstalling it. This might be stupid but after I've done this vmware wouldn't uninstall anymore. It would say that there where instances of vmware running though I've never even been at the point that I ran vmware. The installer would say that vmware was already installed so it wouldn't install either. Now I've removed as much vmware files as I could find. But now if I run
Code:
sudo sh vmware-workstation-full-7.1.4-385536.i386.bundle
It wil say
Quote:
Extracting VMware Installer...done.
And then nothing. It will just silently quit. It doesn't give an error, it doesn't start the installer GUI, it will just quit. Now I suspect there are vmware files somewhere that confuse the installer but I've no idea if this is true or where these files are. how to completly wipe any vmware-workstation file from my computer as if vmware was never installed?
EDIT: if I run sh vmware-workstation-full-7.1.4-385536.i386.bundle -r, it will show the installer again but show that vmware is already installed
I made the mistake of trying to install a gnome based panel applet, which seemed for some reason installed the entire gnome desktop (games and bloatware too) whenever I try to remove the, Synaptic keeps threatening to install kde.

Okay, so what I want to do is completely remove Ubuntu and the Grub Bootloader and install the Windows Bootloader but I am not so sure how to accomplish said task. I bought my laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 installed on it and have since then updated to 11.04. I don't believe windows was previously installed on the laptop but I could be wrong.
I have a Ubuntu 11.04 Live CD, a Windows 7 Ultimate Installation CD, and a Windows 7 Recovery CD.
I have heard that you can remove all the necessary partitions that have Ubuntu/Grub in them through the Ubuntu Installation process but I am not sure which partitions to remove.
When I tried to install gwibber, ubuntu software center is said that it is unable to install the software (this was the error report):

Since I am a web designer, I love to experiment with a spectrum of fonts ornately expressed. Moreover ShipIt had terminated).

I'm running it on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. After getting the OS installed and configured evolution, I did a backup of the evolution on my desktop version of 10.04 and attempted to restore it to evolution on my laptop and while it did seem to work, it became corrupted and now won't load.
I uninstalled multiple times and reinstalled to get the same problem. I also removed a number of folders trying to get a clean install but ran into the same problem as soon as restored again. How can I completely remove evolution so that I can get a truly clean install where the wizard comes up for set up again once I open it for the first time?
For some time now I've put off installing Karmic as there seemed to be a bunch of complaints and issues right at the beginning (probably unfounded) and stuck to a nice and running 9.04.
Anyway over the weekend I had some problems. I won't go into them as it's along story and rather irrelevant now. The outcome was that I decided it was simpler to do a clean install so I backed up my files, downloaded and burnt a new Live CD for Karmic 9.10 and yesterday installed it. My first impressions are very good, I like it a lot!
The only thing I have a problem with is this. Under: Applications>Ubuntu Software Centre I seem unable to install or remove anything. By this I mean after selecting some application when I click on the Install or Remove button nothing happens apart from the slight flicker. Nothing...zilch! I can install using apt-get in terminal or using Synaptic just fine. My feeling is that its a "button" issue rather than with Software Centre...but who knows

There are times when I can "see" other machines on the LAN, and there are times when I can't - MSHOME and WORKGROUP are in view. How can I remove the LAN network in place, and start over, creating a LAN that will only be used by Ubuntu machines?
