When I try to print any PDF from either Acroread or Evince, it doesn't print and the queue tells me the printer isn't connected; and yet, when I print from OpenOffice.org, everything's fine.
View 3 RepliesI have a PDF that I built using BIRT, and that works fine. At this point I'm trying to print it using lpr or some other command. It seems as though I should just be able to type lpr invoice.pdf and it should print to the default printer. However, lpstat -t shows "Empty print file!" for the printer, and the printer doesn't do anything, let alone print the file. lpr -l invoice.pdf prints the file, but unformatted - just a bunch of characters and whitespace on a seemingly infinite number of pages.

When I try to print in grayscale it send a blank paper to the printer...When I try to print anything in color I can't change the margin of the paper, it always put like ZERO margin and the text go throw the end of the paper.
The paper size is A5 (Half A4) and the printer is in LAN in a Windows computer.
It's me or when I print in grayscale it print faster? So, it's an update or something? Because last time I printed from Ubuntu (like a month ago) it printed perfectly OK in grayscale (I don't know about the margin).
I have a HP P1005, which is connected to my desktop computer. I have it configured using hp-setup and set it to share across the network. However no matter what I do on an other computer connected to the network I'm unable to detect the printer. With OS 11.2 it all worked smoothly and practically out of the box. Only need was to add CUPS as an allowed service. This option is taken out, apparently it posed a security risk beats me if you only allowed local traffic. Still the printer is not detected. If I turn the firewall off on both machines, no printer. If I try to ping it from the host machine it asks whether or not I enabled the firewall (which is turned off!!).
cupsd is running on the server printer. Localhost:631 is correctly configured and printing from my desktop works fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter installing libre3.3.2 using the Slackbuild scripts, I found that it displayed fonts correctly, but doesn't print the same font on the printer. The output of the printer should be Arial, but is instead some elongated, overlapping mess.
The same Slackware package installed on SW13.1 prints normally. (Same computer, different partition)
Spadmin used to control the printer fonts, but apparently not anymore.

I just brought up a new server on RHEL4 to replace an existing older one. The server is using CUPS for printing. I copied the cupsd.conf, printers.conf, and lpoptions files over from the old server. I also copied the printer files in the /etc/cups/ppd directory over to the new server. But I can't get printing to work. And when I run system-config-printer-tui I don't see any of the printers in the dialog box. What other file(s) am I missing?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a mfc-440cn installed and working in Debian wheezy 7.4 (the last one) but I cant fix to it for printing in grey, I was using the pdf default reader and send some pages to printing indicating not to print them in color just greys colors but doesn't respect that order, it prints full color. When I see the conf page for the printer it stills have the configuration I did indicating to print grey but it ignores it and print as it wants (full color). Note that I installed thr mfc according the instructions from the brother support page with no trouble but is just that it only wants to print full color.

My Distribution is archlinux with all updates installed.
I'm using 'Adobe Flash plug-in 10.3.183.4ubuntu0.11.04.1', installed from the package repos on kubuntu, and since the last update, it has broken all flash functionality in both rekonq and firefox.I have tried removing and reinstalling the package multiple times, both with and without the browsers open. Can anyone suggest a way to restoring functionality?

Here are some details...
I have two computers running the same version of Debian. One is a server with no GUI and the other is my laptop with GDM installed. My laptop (which prints with no problem) is connected via Wifi. My server is connected directly to the router via Ethernet. I cannot print from the server.
The printer is a Canon Pixma MP495 that connects to the router via Wifi. I have downloaded drivers for the printer from [url] and installed them successfully using dpkg on both computers.
Right now I have a regular text file that I am using for a test page. To print from my laptop (with success) I type:

I expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.

The problem started however when I installed Skype which uses pulseaudio. As soon as I start skype (or any other application that uses pulse, HoN for example) the applications sound output or input does not work at all. I'm having trouble getting compiz to work on my Laptop. It worked for a while and then I turned on Shift Switcher and a message popped up saying..."The new value for the button binding for the action Terminate in plugin Shift Switcher conflicts with the action Zoom Window of the Scale Addons plugin. Do you wish to disable Zoom Window in the Scale Addons plugin?" I was given the option of Set Terminate anyway, Don't set Terminate, and Disable Zoom Window. I clicked Don't set Terminate and ever since the only thing that works in compiz are the bindings in the general options. I've used synaptic to completely remove and then reinstall compiz but the problem persist. Something else weird, all of the changes I made are still there, even after complete removal, but they don't work?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just recently (about an hour ago) installed Ubuntu Netbook edition on my old laptop, and I was greeted with the message, that unity could not be run due to some sort of missing driver...fair enough, I was then greeted with the default Ubuntu desktop, I installed all my needed software (wine, google chrome) and installed the missing display drivers. I then rebooted the system, and once again I am stuck with the default desktop, and not the Unity interface. I checked the software center, and it says Unity IS in fact installed.. And yet I cannot make it appear. So now I ask you Ubuntu veterans. How do I make it work?
P.S. I wiped the system of windows, and the computer is an old HP Pavilion DV6000

My atl gr key often doesnt work. Since I have an azerty lay-out, I often need this key (fi for typing @).
I tested it with xev and got the following output (first one is for a key that does work, fi alt_l and second output for the alt gr key to show the difference)

ssh works fine on root but when i log into my other account, the ssh doesn't work, it just times out when i putty it. I used this to try and start it from terminal in my reg acc, and then as the su.
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start
After that didn't work i did this
sudo apt-get remove openssh-server
sudo apt-get install openssh-server
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start
and still nothing. I have no clue why it only works on root and no other accounts.
My awn manager for the awn dock does not seem to want to open. I have tried to open it so I can configure my awn dock to work properly but it does not seem to want to co-operate. Should I uninstall and reinstall it or what?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just tried a fresh install of ubuntu 9.04 and a new attempt for 3D acceleration with my ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 - AND IT WORKED! thanx to this guide: [URL] glxinfo | grep "direct rendering" was giving a YES and playonlinux in the terminal didn't give the usual "you don't seem to have any 3D acceleration" message. For a few minutes, my happiness was greater then ever (ehum) I installed Jedi Knight II, Jedi Outcast, and it worked. Only I couldn't adjust the screen size or the gamma (and a few other minor video settings). After some install/reinstall of playonlinux and wine I found out something: 3D acceleration didn't work any longer. glxinfo | grep "direct rendering" is now giving
direct rendering: No (LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT set) and I get the error in Playonlinux that i don't have any 3D acceleration. I want to know how this could happen? My xorg didn't change at all. But for completeness, here it is:

I have tried all the usual stuff like: apt-get cups-pdf and similar things.
Of course I use the proper way (like sudo, etc.) The point is I can't print PDF files. Have a look at the image:

I have also modified to the cups-pdf.conf file and have directed it to /home/{USER}/PDF And yes the aforementioned folder (i.e. PDF) exists at its proper place.
So I think the main problem is "P2POutputStream" error which you can see in the image.
or at least, it doesn't seem to. for some reason, my .txt, .doc, .rtf, and other files that shouldn't have the execute bit set often seem to (i think i know why, but that's not important). it's my understanding that this command should, for example, remove the execute bit from all .rtf files recursively (that is, from .rtf files in subdirectories too):
