Ubuntu :: Postfix / Gmail Smtp Configuration Failure To Authenticate / Create Tls Connection

Jun 29, 2010

I'm trying to configure postfix on an ubuntu virtual machine to use gmail as a relay client. For the past two days I have been in and out of the logs, changing parameters and blindly following tutorials but I can't get anything to work properly. So far I've narrowed my problems down to tls connection establishing and a failure to authenticate, judging by the local emails I've received from "The mail system".

Server :: Postfix Not Relay Mail Via Gmail Account SMTP

Feb 11, 2011

I'm trying to set up my postfix server to relay mail (via a php cms) using Gmail's smtp on my account, but for some reason, Gmail returns an error code that StartTLS must be sent first, my postfix main.cnf file can be found at pastebin, because of this forum's text length I cannot paste my postfix main.cnf file as can be seen I have everything set and configured for Gmail, but postfix (for some unseen reason) can not send StartTLS. Ubuntu :: Postfix Smtp Configuration

May 13, 2010

I'm running Postfix primarily as a local email server. There is no email coming in from other machines, and there are no other machines using it to send mail. But I'd like it to be able to send mail. I use Evolution for my normal email stuff, and it's configured to send mail to my ISP's smtp server, and that's working fine. But I occasionally send mail from the command line, using the "mail" or "mutt" utilities. (Mutt because the standard mail doesn't support attachments.) These don't use Evolution's configuration, they depend upon whatever is listening to port 25 - and that's Postfix. So all I should need to do is to give Postfix the smtp server, user name, and password. My problem is that Postfix has voluminous documentation online, and I haven't been able to find this simple configuration in it.

Ubuntu Servers :: Postfix Smtp Client Configuration For Port 465?

Jan 2, 2010

configuring my postfix server to send mail over smtps port 465. My ISP (as is the case with many ISPs), is blocking outbound SMTP, so I need to configure postfix to relay my mail out through my ISPs SMTP servers.

I was able to get it to work with gmail, which uses port 587, by using SASL: [URL] but that configuration is less than ideal as gmail drops the "reply to" address so when people receive my email, it looks like it's from gmail instead of from my server.

If I use my ISP SMTP servers as a relay the "reply to" address is not stripped, but the relay uses ssl over port 465 instead of TLS. According to the SASL readme:

Quote:

Postfix does not deliver mail via TCP port 465 (the obsolete "wrappermode" protocol). See TLS_README for a solution that uses the "stunnel" command.

I've looked at the TLS_README and can't figure out what I need to do. how to configure this?

Oct 4, 2010

so i set out to change the default smtp port the server uses because my ISP blocks port 25 and i need the email to work in outlook. this morning i could receive email, but not send it. so i did some research and thought that i needed to edit the master.cf file in /etc/postfix/ by commenting out this line: smtp inet n - n - - smtpd -oand replace it with587 inet n - n - - smtpd (587 being the port i want to use)somewhere along the lines postfix server stopped running and now i cannot get it to start.if i try using SSH it crashes immediately and if i restart it in simple control panel nothing happens

Debian Configuration :: Postfix - Cannot Currently Create Any Folders Other Than Inbox

Jun 20, 2011

My Postfix cannot currently create any folders other than inbox. Even when I send an e-mail I receive an error along the lines of, "Could not create sendmail folder." Also, my Postfix isn't receiving e-mails, and can only send e-mails to other accounts on the server. I called my ISP and they told me my port 25 isn't blocked, and it is forwarded on my router so I am not sure what could be wrong. I am using zoneedit as my name server and I am pretty sure my MX record is good.

Ubuntu Servers :: Sent Out From Gmail Via SMTP

May 31, 2011

I run a 6.06.2 Dapper server for a not-for-profit, and have had a very simple email set-up working for a couple of years. Users have their email address set up on the server, and use a gmail account as webmail access/storage. Emails are downloaded via POP to users gmail accounts, and are sent out from gmail via SMTP to the server. Like I said, this has worked fine for ages, but in the last couple of days its all gone wrong.
The SMTP log I get for an email I tried to send from gmail is as follows:

CentOS 5 Server :: Getting SASL+Postfix To Authenticate?

/usr/lib/sasl2/smtpd.conf
pwcheck_method: saslauthd

Ubuntu Servers :: Postfix SMTP Not Working

Apr 7, 2010

I've got a server running 9.10, and I'm having a few issues with SMTP. It's got Postfix and Dovecot installed, and eventually I'll add content filtering, but I need to get past this issue first.

I know there's a lot of posts out there for Postfix issues, but I haven'tbeen able to find one specific to my issue.

IMAP and POP3 work fine through SSL, and the server can send mail without any problems. That's all fine and dandy, but I need to utilize an e-mail client (like evolution or outlook). Everytime I set up a user in Evolution, the smtp connection times out, or is refused. I know it's not a firewall issue. Port 25 is open, as well as 465. So I should be able to connect through SSL. I want to be able to connect through SMTP using the same credentials as IMAP.

Here's my main.cf file:

Code:
myhostname = mail.adamwgay.com
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
myorigin = /etc/mailname

[Code].....

everytime I get things rolling, this issue pops up. I don't know if it's something I'm setting up wrong in the client, or if it's a configuration error on my part in postfix.

I'm also having a bit of an issue with my aliases. I've basically got a lot of addresses going to root, then root going to the main user, but it's not actually delivering the mail to the main user. It sends it straight to root.

Ubuntu Servers :: Outbound SMTP Via Postfix

May 26, 2010

I have just built an internal postfix server for sending mail only, it's not accessible outside our network. I will be sending from our domain, Rewriting the from field to abc.com is turned on in the postfix config. A friend is telling me this will not work as they will do reverse lookups on our domain. What does this mean? Obviously the domain the email is sent from is a valid domain. If they do a lookup from the IP the mail came from it would be global crossing, our internet provider? These outbound emails are critical client reports, I want to make sure they are not seen as spam.

Debian Configuration :: KDE4 - How To Create VPN Connection

I made a VPN tunnel to one of my client locations as a test, but could use rdesktop to get into the server. Then I realized I couldn't ping the server either. I also lost all ability to browse the web and everything while the VPN was up. Upon checking ifconfig as root, I saw that it created "ppp0" and hat it had pulled an IP from the client network, but all of my networking capabilities were gone. What gives? What is it that I am missing?

But the problem is, I do 'telnet localhost 25' to test it like they say, it connects. I run 'ehlo localhost' Nothing happens.

I've tried setting it up with Thunderbird on my home pc and it connects to the IMAP & POP servers just fine, but it cannot establish a connection with SMTP, I've tried changing the SMTP port to other ones, still no luck.
