Oct 21, 2010I installed pidgin a while ago, and after using it I decided to stick with empathy...when I installed it, a shortcut to it appeared in the Indicator applet now, that I have uninstalled it, the shortcut remains although clicking on it doesn't do anything...does anybody know a simple way of removing the shortcut from the indicator applet?

Dec 5, 2010I have Mint 10 installed, and I am using Pidgin with GFire plugin for my messenger. I am having an issue where pidgin will become greyed out, and I am unable to use the program after it greys out. This happens fairly fast after I start up pidgin, maybe 2 or 3 minutes. But I received the error:
Unable to connect to Yahoo
I tried the previous post about connecting to 66.163.181.166 or changed port but still didn't work.
However I have another computer with linux FC4 and the pidgin 2.6.2 installed on FC 4 with same configuration works.

May 25, 2010Running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on a Gateway md7818u.When trying to install Pidgin today, I found that I could not do so in the software center due to to a "Software Dependencies Cannot Be Resolved" error. So I went to Synaptic and attempted there. One package after another kept saying "dependent on (insert package name here) but will not be installed" so I went to manually install these packages, with the same results, leading me to "libdirac-encoder0" which would install but conflicted with many of my installed programs it said that all had to be removed to install this package, which will allow me to install all of these other packages, which will allow me to install Pidgin.

Aug 1, 2010Previously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error
pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type
I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.

Feb 22, 2011Been a slackware user for over a year now and this is the first time I've run into this exact little problem. Pidgin's most current version in the official repository is 2.7.9, and I want to upgrade to it's latest version (2.7.10). There is no slackbuild for it on slacky.eu or slackbuilds org, the official repo hasn't added .10 in the week that its been out so I'm not holding my breath on an update anytime soon. I suppose I 'could' install it the old fashioned way (make/make install/etc), but I'm not sure what kind of effect this would have on the current installation, or if it would break itself or whatever.Is there a way to get pidgin 2.7.10 installed without having to do it this way?

Aug 26, 2010I'm using Ubuntu jaunty and was using old version of pidgin until today. Today I had decided to install newer version of Pidgin 2.7 and uninstalled my old version from system. Because it had so many problem like not login to yahoo account.
I went to Pidgin website and downloaded Debian package for ubuntu. But got an error while installing. Finally I decided to install it from source package and downloaded it to install. While I try to make configure file by typing

Aug 15, 2010I cannot install Kubuntu (or Unbuntu) 10.4 on my husband's computer. I have spent 5 hours on this and cannot get anywhere. I am deeply frustrated. The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:

I managed to get a list of legal names and email addresses out of the HR department, but I'd like to build my google address book as well as my pidgin buddy list.Pidgin buddy lists are in the format code...
I've tried to simply edit blist.xml, but the act of actually ADDING a buddy does more than simply stick them into your list, it actually performs a server action to do mutual authentication and stuff. So my question is: Is there a way I can run a script that will "add" all these people onto my buddy list without me having to type each email address and full name by hand?

Mar 18, 2010There seems to have been a change in how you add buddies in Pidgin, since I last used Pidgin in Ubuntu. When I open the add buddy window in Pidgin I get the image attached. It allows me to "search" Personal or Ubuntu One from the drop down list, but nothing is ever populated in the main text area. Similarly, when I select a group from the drop down list in the lower right corner, it never selects it. Also when I click "New Person" it simply closes the window without ever adding a new buddy to my buddy list.
