View 4 RepliesI've Alcatel X220 cellular modem and I'm connecting via wvdial (Is there anyone who know how do I connect via NetworkManager?). when I'm connecting via the wvdial Evolution and pidgin won't connect to the internet. It's look like they like the NetworkManager and won't connect via other way.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI already had solved the problem [URL].. but after several yum updates it has appeared again. Within the script "/etc/ppp/ip-up" the sixth parameter isn't provided. But the sixth parameter should be "ppp0" (in this case). The script sets it into the variable $LOGDEVICE and passes it as first parameter to annother script. Successfully I had patched "/etc/ppp/ip-up". I would like to report a bug but I'm not sure if it is a wvdial or a ppp/pppd or a Fedora 14 bug.
Now (after several yum patch updates) my patched /etc/ppp/ip-up doesn't help anymore. The registration at the mobile phone provider seems to be ok but the internet connection isn't initialized.
According the man pages wvdial starts ppp or pppd and one of them seems to call /etc/ppp/ip-up. At which point in the subprocessed scripts (under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/) I didn't find out yet.
Well this has been going on for five days already, I can't sign in MSN through pidgin it give me this error..
View 9 Replies View RelatedHello, when I log into Aim using pidgin I get this error
"Received unexpected response from http://api.oscar.aol.com/aim/startOSCARSession"
I tried using a MSN account to test it out and it works. So AIM does not work. The port is on 5190 so I dont understand what is wrong.
Is there any workaround for Pidgin's "invisible" not working? If I go "invisible" others (on Yahoo accounts) still can see me online, which is pointless, really. I don't have anything checked under Presence settings, so why is invisible VISIBLE?

i had to uninstall it and re-install it to get it to come back up again
I have a fairly fresh Slack install. When I start or shutdown X, the sounds that are supposed to play do. Also, sometimes everything else that is supposed to play sounds does.
However, sometimes the sound doesn't work for flash content or pidgin. I have never had a similar problem and I don't know where to start in resolving this issue.
I am using Ubuntu 9.04. After doing sudo apt-get update When I try to insatll pidgin via terminal it shows: XXX@XXX-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install pidgin Reading package lists... View 5 Replies View RelatedI uninstalled Empathy and installed Pidgin, because I just couldn't take Empathy's lack of features any more. The "Me" menu doesn't work properly with Pidgin, though. Every time I change my status via the Me menu, it knocks me off-line on three of my four accounts. how to disable (or even remove) the "Me" menu? It's only functionality is to control messaging and social networking services, right?
View 6 Replies View RelatedPreviously after doing aptitude upgrade, my pidgin seems broken with no gui shown. So I decided to download the latest source from pidgin website and build it from source, but I think I made situation worse because it then complained that ssl lib was needed. Then I removed the libpurple (e.g. aptitude purge libpurple0 libpurple-bin libpurple-dev) and reinstalled pidgin (aptitude install pidgin). Now it shows the error
pidgin: symbol lookup error: pidgin: undefined symbol: purple_media_element_info_get_type
I searched on the internet and can not find a solution. The clues on the internet says that's because the piding I use is the older version of libpurple. But I think I've removed all with purge and reinstalled it. Maybe some legacy binary is referenced. What or where it might be? Or where there may contain related information.
I have (my) main account, which I have root access. I also have other users which can login, I setup wvdial shortcut on their desktop, but it won't allow them to use it because they aren't in sudoers list. I do not and don't want them to have access to other hard drives or root. How do I accomplish this? I did a chown on the wvdial file in ppp to myself, and added read access for other users, but still won't let them use wvdial due to sudoeers.
This is in ubuntu hardy with a multiboot vista/xp/hardy laptop. BTW, wvdial works great in my account/desktop.
I just installed ubuntu 9.10 in my machine... in order to connect to internet(EVDO), through other forums i found out that i'd be requiring wvdial. So i downloaded its source file but i'm having problem installing it... also it seems that wvdial itself requires some other software installed earlier.

I have only a dial-up connection. I've been using the 32-bit version of WVDIAL and its associated programs in Karmic Koala for over a year. I recently finally got around to installing Maverick Meerkat on a different drive. The 64-bit version. I see that I need the 64-bit version of the modem software, and I haven't found it right away. Where can I get it? The programs required under 32-bit Karmic Koala:
libwvstreams4.6-base
libwvstreams4.6-extras
libuniconf4.6
wvdial
All of these had .deb filename extensions. Also, largely because I only have a slow dial-up connection, I don't have any updates for either Karmic Koala or Maverick Meerkat installed. If you happen to know that I absolutely need some particular update(s)
I use tata docomo as my carrier. I have activated GPRS and many people say that it works perfectly on a laptop with Windows. But I don't use windows. My service provider has not provided us with a username and a password. It works fine without these on the mobile and a laptop with windows. But when I use it on ubuntu 9.10 with wvdial, it exits saying required username and password. How do I overcome this problem.

However, I wanted to automate the connection a bit (currently I am running wvdial every time I want to connect). I was wandering if there is a way to add this network to /etc/network/interfaces (in a truly Debian way) to have it connect on startup and/or whenever I connect my modem.

I post here wanting to know if it's Possible to run wvdial as soon as linux detects USB modem.I have already installed and done the setting for using wvdial. I can successfully use wvdial command to setup internet connection. But I have only 1 USB modem. When my wife wants to use it for her PC, she disconnects it from my linux machine. What I want to do now is... 1 that when I attatch the USB back to my linux, I'd want it to do "wvdial &" automatically.2 that when linux is rebooted, "wvdial &" done automatically as soon as it detects USB modem.
