View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Mandriva 10 installed on 2 computers. On one I have just installed Pan 0.133 newsreader successfully and am able to scroll through newsgroups and download. On the other I cannot figure how to find newsgroups. I tried uninstalling and re-installing to see if I would get a chance during install but no. I can't remember how I got them on the 'successful' machine.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi've been using Linux for a couple of years it's always been Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint environments which i can just about find my way arround in.Because i wanted to try something new and was unhappy with the last development in Ubuntu i've looked arround and decided to try my luck with a KDE based distro, Pardus came accross well in the reviews. So, i'm now in Pardus but can't find my "trusted newsreader (binaries/nzb's)" PAN in the repo's.To be honest i can't find an awefull lot in the repo's, i have tried adding a couple of German based repositories but dissapointingly still no Pan.
Google, normally a mine of information has let me down aswell, so now i'm asking the Linux community for a little shared wisdom. If anyone could shed a little light for me, i'd be really gratefull - especially if you'd be kind enough point out how to install Pan if it can be found.Pretty shamefull when you realise just how little you really know when stepping out of the comfort zone.
I recently bought a server running CentOS 5 (32-bit) and am looking to install a newsreader, preferably a command-line reader. I tried nget and Hellanzb but couldn't get either one to successfully compile.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to convert fdf file to xsf file or xyz file on ubuntu 9.10_32 bit .
View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded three iso-images, 1 dvd-image and 2 cd-images:
openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso
openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-i686.iso
openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso
Being paranoid, I created iso-files from the burnt DVD-R and the two burnt CD-R to verify integrity.
The iso-file of the DVD-R was identical to the downloaded image. Both iso-files created from the CD-R were different in size.
The original size of openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso is 719.323.136 Bytes.
I only got 718.938.112 Bytes when recreating an ISO-file from my CD-R.
The CD-R is from Sony. When the length of my ISO-file doesn't correspond to the downloaded one, the checksum file verification doesn't work.
i have generated .exe file from C file (ie filename.c ) after compiling in linux machine with -O option. I wish to know about how to run that .exe file when linux system starts up ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the demo of Penumbra Overture, it is a .sh file (113Mb). I can't open the file. In a terminal I ran chmod +x PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh and then sudo ./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh and I get an error "./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh: 2: Syntax error: "(" unexpected" . The quotation marks are my own. Is the file corrupted? One of my lugmates thinks it might be a shar file, but Karmic says that it is a shell script. Another friend says that it is too large to be a shell script. Here is the code:
john@john-laptop:~$ cd /home/john/00
john@john-laptop:~/00$ chmod +x PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh
john@john-laptop:~/00$ sudo ./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh

I plugged in my USb drive into my computer yesterday and tried to delete a folder. I was unable to do so and got the following message
Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? The file "my file" cannot be moved to the trash. Show Details Unable to create trashing info file: Read-only file system
So when I click on delete I get another error message:
Error while deleting.
There was an error deleting Case Study Database. Show Details Error removing file: Read-only file system
At this point I can only click on Skip, Skip All, or Cancel.
I have not changed anything on the stick recently so I dont know what is causing the problem.

I am curious if perhaps I am doing something wrong extracting pages from a pdf doc using pdftk and creating a new file. I am only extracting the odd pages from the file and outputting them to a new file that is now only 20 pages instead of the input's 40 pages, yet the new output file is still 1.4Mb in size, the same as the original.
It seems strange to extract only half the pages of a large document and end up with a result that is the same size. how to streamline the resulting pdf's using pdftk?
BTW this is the command I am using, in case perhaps I am missing an option to optimize file size or something:
Code:
pdftk A=ch15.pdf cat A1-40odd output odd.pdf
I have recently switched to using LXDE on my PC and I am on the whole pretty pleased with it. However,PCMan is giving me a really odd problem. Some of the files/folders are being displayed in the wrong order where they contain numbers. They are being ordered by their first digit not the whole number.

I have asked this over on Launchpad and have found bugs filed on the eclipse bug tracker but it seems to be going nowhere so I guess ill ask here.
I am using Eclipse for some development work and having saved a file, defocus the eclipse window (to test changes in a browser) when I refocus the eclipse window I get the following error...
The file 'path omyfile' has been changed on the file system.Do you want to replace the editor contents with these changes?
I have searched and searched and this seems to be a CIFS/SAMBA problem. I even found one solution suggesting that changing his mounts from cifs to smbfs fixed his problem however that would appear not to be an option for me since using smbfs in the fstab causes cifs mounts. This problem would seem to occur in Bluefish as well as some other IDE's so it is not an Eclipse issue.

I'm only just starting out with the Linux ubunto 10.04 OS after yeas of wasted time on Microsoft os's,I hope I'm posting this request for help in the right forum thread, if not please accept my apologies, I have tried searching everywhere for help in installing a firmware file into the File System / lib / firmware directory and each time I get an access denied result. The file is for a DVB board and I have managed to track down the right Linux fw file for this particular piece of equipment, Could some kind helpful person either explain how to get this firmware file into the Root System directory or even send a link to another site that deals with this sort of problemI've downloaded all the programs via the Ubuntu Software Center that should be able to perform this task however all to no avail. The reason why I posted this thread in this forum board is that it (in my own personal opinion which may be wrong) seems to me to be a security problem
