In Ubuntu 10.04 I installed VMware workstation 7.1 to run a VM - everytime I need to run it though, Workstation doesn't find a file (VMmon) and I need to run in terminal this command: sudo /etc/init.d/vmware start
How can I add this in the boot file so it starts automatically and I do not have to run it manually -
When I first installed VMWare Workstation and Player everything ran great. I guess after a system restart things started to get buggy. When trying to load my virtual machine I get the following error:
Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory.make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded.Failed to initialize monitor device. Unable to change virtual machine power state: Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to I have tried running as root, through terminal, and reinstalling. The window still shows up eventually.
I have just downloaded, configure'd, make'd and make install'ed the Google Log Library to my computer. It built all required files (as far as I can see) and copied the .so file (libglog.so.0.0.0) to /usr/local/lib. Then it created two symbolic links called "libglog.so.0" and "libglog.so" that point to that shared object file:
Now I'm trying to execute a program that uses the library, but when I start it, I get the error message that it can't open the so-file:
cloud:/home/blam/redirector/redirector2# ./redirector ./redirector: error while loading shared libraries: libglog.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/local/lib is included in my /etc/ld.so.conf file, and another library that's located in this directory is loaded correctly.
I am connected to a server with openvpn. When I try to get a file from this server to my workstation, then the error appears : ssh: 2011-04-28_10: Name or service not known
But in fact the name of the file is :
2011-04-28_10:26:45
I guess the system can not handle the time indication in the filename ?
I am getting a blank screen with a blinking cursor. Install gave message to the effect: can't find boot file. Now I can't boot with any version or even get a prompt.
My internal hard drive developed a problem (probably from a fall) and needs to be replaced. In the meantime I've decided to use my external hard drive to hold a version of Linux (ubuntu 10.04) until I am able to replace the internal hard drive. For some reason I am unable to get the external drive to accept the recovery disks I have for Windows 7.
What I'm having issues with is that after installing the Ubuntu OS on to the external, I reboot the PC and it tells me it cannot find a boot file, and won't load anything. I have to run the live cd version of the OS to get anything to work right.
When i logged into my desktop, i got a notification that said there was boot messages. I remember trying to find this before in /var/log, so that i could investigate why i couldn't get the nvidia drivers to work (which i now know is because i'm using 14-beta, which has a debugging kernel), but couldn't find it.
When i open any .pps file with OO.org (impress), it starts a slideshow and it doesn't let me edit the file. If i click on "end slideshow", the program exits.i ran it in a terminal and there's no error messages.[EDITED]Well, i found the answer, just renaming it to ".ppt".
I want to create a logon script (or somesuch) that creates a file (if it doesn't already exist) and checks the file for some info otherwise. If it finds a given trigger in that file, it logs into a local database and does some operations.
Now my problem isn't with creating that file or even getting it to function as a logon script -- it's with permissions. After the logon script creates the file, I want that user to have read access on it ONLY. Further, I don't want to give the user any kind of root access so that they could do the database operations in question or chown/chmod the file.
What's the best practice here? I'm noticing that whenever the script runs (in .bashrc right now) the script runs with the current user's permissions. Ideally, I'd like to make it so the login script can run at a higher level of permissions, (higher than the user has). Is this even possible? What's the best way to do this?
Many folders within a subdirectory some of which have lots of data in and some of which have only one specific file called produkt.fil inside.I need a command to find and delete those folders that contain ONLY the file produkt.fil - if other files exist (doesnt matter what they are) then they should be left alone. Note: produkt.fil exists in all of the folders always.
I was just testing specifying limit on file size to a user and have added the following to /etc/security/limits.conf bob soft fsize 100 This basically should have said not to allow bob to create anyfile greater than 100Kb in size.
But the interesting thing is, if bob already has any file which is greater than 100Kb in size, it even doesn't allow to log him into the system both from console and SSH. Also nothing is logged in logs.. How do I configure it so that, bob can login to the system even though he has any file greater than 100Kb (but doesn't allow him to create file which are greater than 100Kb) ??
I have script that I'm working on that updates a username in all the files that are called blah.inc for my framework. since i host a bunch of these web apps i need to do it to all of them. so I need to figure out how to update these files automagically with out me watching it to call vim every time. heres what I have so far
Code:
This finds the files but now i need to figure out how to do s/bob/fred/g on those files.
Error executing command >>command=C:Windowssysnativecdedit.exe /create/d Ubuntu/application bootsector >>retval=1 >>stderr=The boot configuration data store could not be opened The system cannot find the file specified >>stdout=
Vista Recovery Windows 7 GRUB Extended -->Fedora 12 (ext4)
so, I shrunk my recovery in Windows 7 successfully, and booted into my Fedora 12 live cd to run Gparted, and move the partitions so that the free space could go towards fedora, I did such, and then I couldn't expand the partition to my dismay. Next, I woke up this morning, tried to boot to fedora to run SSH, grub loaded, but when I tried to boot fedora, I got the "File system check failed" error, and when I tried 7, it just went to a blank screen with a single "_" in the top left-hand corner.
installed VMWare workstation by following the steps on this page. Everything seemed to install ok, I have a VMWare Workstation and VMWare Player link in my System menu, but when I click them nothing launches.
I even rebooted to see if that would help, nada.
how I can launch VMWare Workstation? Need to set up a couple Windows clients.
am new to linux and trying to find a file in sub directories using find command as:find .-name *.jpg -type fBut I am unable to get the result as find command is not permitted by the server administrator. Is there any way to find files without using find command.
I just upgraded to VMWare workstation 7. I was previously running v.6, and an older linux version, and everything was working fine. I moved over the same VM files to the new computer, and it doesn't find the ethernet connection. When I start up the virtual machine, I get an error message:
Could not connect Ethernet0 to virtual network "/dev/vmnet8". More information can be found in the vmware.log file.
There log file doesn't say much more:
Jan 07 17:31:36.928: vcpu-0| VNET: MACVNetPortOpenDevice: Ethernet0: can't open vmnet device (No such device or address) Jan 07 17:31:36.928: vcpu-0| VNET: MACVNetPort_Connect: Ethernet0: can't open data fd
[code]....
Once xp has booted, I get the "new hardware" wizard, saying that it found an ethernet adapter. However, it can't find any driver for it. I think this dialog started appearing after I added a new virtual network entry using the "Virtual Network Editor". Originally I didn't even have a /dev/vmnet8 file. Now I do.

i have generated .exe file from C file (ie filename.c ) after compiling in linux machine with -O option. I wish to know about how to run that .exe file when linux system starts up ?
I have installed unrar-free, and I am trying to extract a file from a .rar archive (actually the file is split into several archives).
When I choose one of the .rar files and open it with Archive Manager, there are no errors and the file to be extracted shows in the Archive Manager window. I then choose to extract it, and after that I click on "show files". But when the folder supposedly containing the extracted file opens, the file isn't there.
Maybe relevant info: I am running latest stable version of Ubuntu, as the user that was created during the Ubuntu installation. The files are in my "Downloads" folder, and the Archive Manager window says that the .rar file is read-only.
I was up late the other night and decided to get conky going on my desktop. Well, I must have skipped some steps because I can't find any conkyrc file (not even the example) but I can run conky from the terminal. I'd like to make some changes to it but I can't seem to figure out where to do that. I did find an example conkyrc file on the faq on the conky website.Do I need to purge conky and start over?
