Ubuntu :: Reinstall It But Delete Partitions First?

Nov 28, 2010

I have Edgy on hda1, Mepis on hda2, and Hardy on hda 5 in extended part 4. Right now I can't back-up to any external drive because they won't mount. My file system on hda1 can't be checked ( i believe because of a bad UUID which I have not been able to resolve). I have been using hda1-edgy as my main system and mepis-hda2 as a back-up. But when I installed Hardy I lost my UUIDs. My resolve for this is to try to delete Hardy (hda5) leaving hda2 and hda1-edgy so that I might at least be able to mount a removable to backup hda1. then I'll reinstall edgy, Hardy...and so on until I get to something that is current. At least that's my plan thus far. But before I do any of this I need to find out where GRUB is loaded. It is not with hda1 but would like to put it there. (Is this what- Active- means in Gparted?) Any suggestions on how not to loose my current files on hda1-edgy while reinstalling?

Ubuntu Installation :: CANNOT Delete OS And Try To Reinstall Another. 0xc000000e?

Jun 7, 2010

I tried to install the right way with GET UBUNTU DESKTOP EDITION and follow the 1st step to download and extract it in my flash drive. I then go into "install" and did another extraction and click on "install" label, I think. The problem happened there, when the system said it cannot find Wubildr. I said this to myself "This is tough to install" so I deleted the ubuntu OS application on my flash drive. I restarted the laptop before where it asked me to choose between "windows" OS or "ubuntu" OS. I had a DOS screen-like, therefore different from what is shown on the website.

Back to the story, I deleted the Linux Ubuntu OS, but that did not clear the OS off my system when I turn on the laptop power. Now my problem is I cannot get rid of the Ubuntu OS when I turn on the laptop. The message i got "wubildr.Mbr , Status" 0x000000f, info : the selected entry could not be loaded because theapplication is missing or corrupt. The whole message when I turn on the laptop is hereafter ==>Windows Boot ManagerWindows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:1. Insert your Windows Installation disc and restart your computer.2. Choose your language settings and then click "Next."3. Click "Repair your computer."If you do no have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File:Ubuntuwinbootwubildr.mbr Status:0xc000000e Info: The selected entry could no be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

Ubuntu Installation :: Delete The Xorg.conf And Re-setup Videocard?

Jan 13, 2010

I have Ubuntu Hardy (8.04) on my desktop and want to put it on my laptop, currently my laptop has Fedora and win xp.

I was thinking not to go through a lengthy setup and just copy the ubuntu files from my desktop to my laptop (untar a backup made with a tiny core boot usb).

My guess is that I have to delete the xorg.conf and re setup my videocard. But is there any other hardware that ubuntu won't initialize on startup?

Ubuntu :: How To Remove And Reinstall Gnome

Oct 2, 2010

I installed kde in ubuntu recently. For a while I didn't need it because I'd been using gnome, but gnome seems to be broken (if I boot up in it, the panel just doesn't show up. I think removing gnome and reinstalling it would be the best solution, but how do I do that? I tried apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop, but it told me that it wasn't installed, so not removed. Did I just get the package name wrong, or what?

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Remove GRUB - Reinstall 9.10 From LIVE CD

Aug 17, 2010

I had Kubuntu 9.04 and Windows XP on a Dual Boot. I upgraded using the update manager to 9.10. (I know, I'm a fool.) The Kubuntu install stated freezing hard on startup, just after the GRUB OS selection screen, at a blinking cursor and otherwise blank screen. I'm pretty sure 9.10 will work great from a fresh install, but the live cd freezes after main Kubuntu boot screen and even Windows live cd only shows Windows partition. fixmb, fixboot, bootcfg etc. do NOT replace the grub as desired.

Ubuntu :: Broken Adobe Flashplayer - Can Neither Remove Nor Reinstall

May 12, 2010

I am running Ububtu Linux 10.04. When I attempt to install the latest version of the Adobe flashplayer (10.0.45.2ubuntu1), the Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) tries to remove flashplugin-nonfree and install flashplugin-installer. That fails with the message

Code:

E: flashplugin-nonfree: Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall it before attempting a removal. So, then I attempted to reinstall flashplugin-nonfree package but the SPM does not allow me to either install or remove the broken flashplugin-nonfree package. I tried the same things using the Ubuntu Software Center (USC) with the same failure.

Tried:

Code:

$ aptitude show flashplugin-nonfree

Code:

Package: flashplugin-nonfree
State: partially configured
Automatically installed: no

Ubuntu Networking :: Creating Script To Remove And Reinstall Windows Driver

Nov 28, 2010

I am running 10.10 on a Samsung n130. Occasionally my wifi adapter locks up, everything looks like it is connected but I cannot connect to the web. I have worked out that removing and re-installing the windows driver brings it back to life (a restart also works). What I was wondering is could it be possible to create a script that would carry out the removal and installation of the driver with one click of a button.

Ubuntu Installation :: Remove Windows And Give Rest Of Drive Without Having To Completely Reinstall?

May 25, 2010

i installed the new ubuntu on my system as a side by side installation, i've been using it for about 2 weeks now. ported over or found linux equivalents of any applications and games i use onto my ubuntu partition, and now i've decided i want to have ubuntu use the entire drive and just delete windows! The problem is, i'm not sure if i can do that I shrank my windows partition half a gig and booted lupu (the ubuntu partitioner wasn't even showing this half a gig of free space) to see if i could just extend my linux partition (in the case that this did work, i was just planning on deleting my windows partition and just extending my linux to the full size of my drive). I really want to avoid a full reformat of the drive because i have customized my ubuntu a decent bit and i don't want to have to redo all of that (not to mention the data, but i could always back that up on an external hdd). Here is a screenie of gparted: i don't really know too much about partitioning. so is there any way to remove windows and give linux the rest of the drive without having to completely reinstall ubuntu?

Ubuntu :: Remove Yellow Square From Desktop / Configure" Box Does Not Have "remove" Or "delete" Option?

Jun 4, 2011

Since I plugged in and then unplugged in the firewire port a video camera, I have a note in the bottom-right corner of one of the desktops. It says 'libieee1284-3".

It's not a serious problem at all, I can live with it, but if there was a way to remove this yellow square from my pretty desktop I would like to hear about it .

I tried clicking and right clicking on it; it does nothing except I can access a tiny menu with - apparently - enlarge, refresh and configure buttons. Only the configure button (a spanner) does something, it opens a "configure" box which does not have a "remove" or "delete" option. Rebooting does not remove it.
