I have a PC that is using Ubuntu Karmic. It serves only to download stuff, and is on 24-7.
Can I set a limit to download speed for Deluge and aMule throughout the day (so that it doesnt interfere with other network stuff) but unlimited during the night? (when we are all sleeping)
Using getrlimit I am setting the core file size to be RLIM_INFINITY. But still the core file is not being generated, although in /var/log/messages it says a core is being generated
I have a VPS server with 512 MB memory. The php.ini is set so script memory limit = 16 MB. However, I have noticed in my top report, instances like the following:
The bold number of 6.4 is the % of sever memory this process is using. 6.4 % of 512 MB of memory is about 32 MB of memory, so it appears that this isn't being limited by php.ini. Am I correct? This leads to the next question: Is there some way to limit the amount of memory a single suphp process can use? (Basically, something like the setting in php.ini which limits suphp processes in the same way.)
I have been reading guides for a while now and so far have not found an exact solution to my problem.
I want a linux user (dave) to be able to switch to another account (patrol) without a password prompt, but dave must still be denied access to root. Patrol must also be denied root access.
In the sudoers file
Code: User_Alias Patrol=dave, john root ALL=(ALL) ALL Patrol ALL=(patrol) NOPSSWD: ALL
I have 2 directories in my home folder that I would like to set a size limit on. The directories are ~/backup and ~/temp. Is there an easy way to limit the size of a directory without having to make partitions?
In the sound preferences in Fedora 11, the sound can be set to 150%. I'd like to limit it to 100%.
The reason I ask is because MythTV likes to monopolize the system sound. It applies it's master volume setting to the system. The default setting is 70%, which is too quiet for me hear, but if I try setting it higher, it ends up putting the master sound over 100% which sounds like garbage. The volume also grows every time I change channels. So if it's at 110%, and I change channels it's at 120%.
Is there a way to keep volume at 100% or lower? Or at least limit MythTV?
Everytime CPU reaches around 85% of maximum it shuts down due to overheating. What I want to do is be able to throttle the cpu to 75% so it never goes above that. I don't want to just throttle individual programs which I think is what CPULimit does right? The fans are failing but I can't afford to get fixed. I just want to use it for email and web browsing usually.
I have cleaned dust out, use in a well ventilated room, use a cooling stand etc but still when CPU gets to approx 85% then whala it shuts itself down. Have been using with XP but just switched to Ubuntu and have only had it shut down once so far.
I would like to limit any process from using more than 500 MB of RAM. AFAIK this is done using RSS in /etc/security/limits.conf but the process called gnome-panel apparently is using 618436 kB of VmRSS. How can this be ?
Is it possible to do limit the SSH connections using IPTABLES, like per day minimum 10 times only ssh connections can allow like that, or any other way to limit the SSH connections.
Is there any way to limit user name to characters so when I create an account and if the account name is more than 8 characters long, it will not allow.
I've just hit an artificial 2GB file limit with my Inbox. WTF is this about, on fedora core 12 ! This is the type of crap I moved away from windows to avoid....
Now what ? I have to delete mail ? Migrate client ?
I routinely create files of over 12GB so its not a filesystem problem or limit .
I'd like to find out if my system can take a certain load, number of PHP requests per unit of time. How would one go about this?
I'm about to make a change on Digital Camera Buying Guide, Photography Articles and Reviews | NeoCamera.com that would make all pages pass through PHP with personalized information which will prevent me from setting the cache-validity any significant amount of time (currently it is 1 hour). To handle the current load it needs to process 500 PHP requests per minute but I would like to make sure my system can handle twice the load. It is a Phenom II X4 with 8GB RAM running OpenSUSE 11.2.
I have ubuntu server with PPTP on it. I need to limit single connection speed for ip 1 mbit/s, and mounthly traffic limit to 5 GB. How i can do this my task. I know that most Windows OS's have a 2 Terabyte Hard drive limit..It's been making the rounds on forums and in print. Now the Chcken-Little sites state it as a universal limit:"limit to hard drive space reached... new software needed!"But the good reviews always mention Windows by name."32-bit Microsoft OS cannot handle drives larger than 2 Terabytes, you will need to upgrade to 64bit Microsoft OS"Does this 2 Terabyte Hard drive limit hold for Linux?

Using NVIDIA Driver Version 195.36.24 with two monitors 1280x1024 each in TwinView configuration My Pen tablet is ID 5543:0005 UC-Logic Technology Corp. Genius MousePen 8x6 Tablet, Wizardpen driver (not sure how to lookup its version) The tablet is currently working just fine except for this one thing I'm trying to fix: it now covers the entire 2560 pixel width of the desktop and 1024 pixel height. Given that the tablet itself has a 4x3 side ratio, it results in its horizontal resolution being half of the vertical one. Basically, when you use it to draw anything you always have to mentally correct what you do by limiting your horizontal movements to only half of vertical ones which makes drawing a (relatively) straight line an impossible task.
So, this got me thinking that I want to make sure the tablet only works on one of the two displays - the one I'd open Gimp and Inkscape on - the only two programs I ever use the tablet with. However, when I look at the calibration settings of the tablet itself, it only allows me to limit the area of the tablet I want to be sensitive, not the area of display. I cannot find any such settings in NVIDIA X Server Settings either although I think this is where it might have been. So, does anyone know how to leave the same size of the tablet drawing area but make it move the cursor only on one particular monitor in TwinView configuration?
I need to adjust what exactly ufw LIMIT port# does.I like the fact that the port is getting limited, but ufw overdoes it a bit. Is there a config file somewhere I can edit?
