i've just installed a fresh copy of 10.04 on my laptop, and, with the default "ambiance" theme, i can't change the pointer to dmz-black: i click on it to select it, but it stays white, even after rebooting and stuff.
View 4 RepliesI had issues with changing the pointer when compiz was active in ubuntu 10.10. it would not change when on the desktop, only when hovering over a window.I solved this issue by doing the following:
Hit alt f2 and enter-> gconf-editor
Then goto-> /->apps->compiz->general->allscreens->options
Then in "cursor_themes" type in the name of the pointer theme(Eg. DMZ-White)
This should resolve the issue with compiz.I am not going to go over that here.Oh yea don't forget to logout/login or press ALT F2 and enter compiz - -replace to refresh the pointer...
I just installed Kubuntu on my machine, but on returning to gde I still have the oxy-white pointer from kde. I went to preferences>appearance>themes>customize>pointer, and changed it back to DMZ White, yet the pointer still looks like oxy-white. I tried it with all of the different pointer options, but none of them will override oxy-white.

I installed gcursor, however it will not let me change anything. The Install Theme and Go to Theme Folder buttons do nothing. Could this be some sort of a conflict with Compiz?
P.S. I am running Lucid.
Where on earth does one go to change the "mouse pointer"? Every time I log into Ubuntu, I get an "X" pointer and have to change it to an "arrow" pointer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 9.10 for about three months now (I am a total greenhorn) . A few hours ago, I decided to add the KDE 4.4 desktop environment. I followed the procedure on this link. It was all in GUI, no terminal commands required. [URL]
Installed KDE and everything is fine except two problems.
1. The KDE mouse pointer has become default in GNOME and I just can't change it. Tried everything, changing theme, customising theme and even downloaded the "mouse pointer" app from Software Centre. Nothing works.
2. I am not able to upgrade anything using Kpackagekit. It keeps telling me I don't have authorisation, without asking for my password.
I was messing with appearances and inadvertently changed my mouse pointer. Currently it's big and red, I can't figure out how or where I need to be to change the mouse pointer back to normal.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed Suse 11.2 recently, and i have my laptop hooked up to a HD monitor.
When i choose the HD monitor, if the resolution is low, lets say 1280x800, same as my laptop, its fine. I see the mouse pointer.
But as soon as i change the resolution to 1920x1080, the pointer disappears. Mouse functionality works allright. Right click/left click works fine, and i can see the buttons getting highlighted on mouse-ever.
But the pointer is gone.
A friend working in HPC environments commented me that he had an issue regarding the use of the malloc() function.What issue?He told me that he has had cases in where malloc() instead of returning a NULL pointer on failure, simply didn't change the original value of the pointer it was trying to use for allocation, thus forcing him to initialize pointers to be allocated with malloc() to NULL, so that he could be sure that if malloc() fails, a test for NULL would make sense.

I changed it in the settings/themes thing like you are supposed to, but it appears to only take effect in Mozilla.needs the larger mouse pointer for the entire system. View 2 Replies View Relatedi have many mouse pointers in the .ico also .ani and .cur format from my old windows days SEE image attached would also like to make new ones and really want to turn them into a format which works on ubuntu since the choice of pointers is only 6 i found a way to install X11 cursors from gnome-look.org download then save to .icons in the hidden part (control H) of my home folder then go system/preference/appearance/customize/pointers
but even then you have to install a whole lot of files to change one pointer and i see no way of making/installing my own is there a more straightforward way? ubuntu/linux are about freedom and here i am at the moment very restricted
I've just upgraded a Compaq D510 from 9.10 to 10.04.During upgrade I got a message:-Code: Missing Resources.The NetworkManager Applet could not find some required resources.It cannot continue.However it did continue, and the system seems to work OK except the mouse pointer is invisible.I can use <ctrl> to highlight where it is, and I can click on menus and run apps.If I VNC in from another machine I can see the mouse pointer on the remote screen.With at least one Theme/Icon/Pointer configuration combination I can get the pointer to appear after boot, but only by launching either Firefox or Gimp.

Some time ago I did something on my laptop in Ubuntu 10.4 which enabled the Ctrl key to create concentric rings around the cursor so I could find it. I still have that, and it's very useful. But I discovered that it also created very pretty ripples in my wallpaper, as if a stone had been thrown into a pond, and that additional effect has suddenly gone away.I can't remember where this keybinding was set up, and I have searched in vain in CompizConfig for it.

I can not see the mouse pointer. The mouse seems to work, but since I can not see the mouse pointer, its impossible to upgrade to UBUNTU 11.04 the same problem with UBUNTU 10,04 but no problem with UBUNTU 9.10.(My laptop is Fujitsu Siemens Amilo)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my wife's old notebook, a Sony Vaio PCG-FX705, by wiping the HDD (i.e. no more Windows ). The problem is that there's some weird display error that reminds of a TFT with pixel errors, although that's no the cause. I got a screenshot of it here (made with a digicam), and here is a close-up of it.
One thing I've noticed is that this error starts at the mouse pointer's tip and goes right when the computer is booted. Also, when using Blank Screen as screensaver, the error disappears once the screen went blank until I press a key or move the mouse, at which point the error will re-appear at the mouse pointer's current location. The only way I found so far to temporarily fix this problem is to change display resolution. It doesn't matter which resolution I use, all that matters is that I change it.
My mouse pointer goes from regular white pointer when on the desktop / app bar, to the black oxygen theme cursor when on a web browser or nautilus when hovering over the |-|+|x| boxes.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm using the control key to locate my mouse pointer and that is very slow and annoying.

At links the mouse pointer disappears within Internet Explorer 6.0. I just updated to the latest version of ubuntu which run like a charm. This problem however is annoying.I can press Ctrl to see the pointer but the fact is it should never disappear.
I do have problems with the graphics (Intel 4500) which sometimes at reproducable cases stops responding. (When trying to update graphically and having to answer a question in a child window to the main window). Is this problem a wine setting or something with x11 or compiz or ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of Ubuntu Studio 10.04 (64bit) a few days ago. Everything has been running fine for a few days. Yesterday, while working in an html editor (Kompozer) and Firefox, the cursur stareted drifting to the top of the screen. It still responds to the mouse, but I am working against this pull and as soon as I stop moving the mouse, the cursor goes to the top again. It doesn't go left or right, just straight up. I had 8.01 on this before and never had nay issues like this. I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, but there is no trackpad on the keyboard.
I've tried shutting off the mouse power and rebooting with a regular wired mouse, and I get the same behavior. I don't have another keyboard right now, so I haven't tried disconnecting the wireless transceiver all together.
