lspci : http://pastebin.com/f4d841bae
Getting the message that I dont have any soundcard on this system when I type "alasamixer" in my terminal.
Have had sound when I was running ubuntu 7.10 and 8.10 on this labtop.
Asked a friend of mine for help, he mentioned that this was an ALSA bug O.o
Have tried the instructions over at ubuntuforums
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=452992
but with no luck.

I installed ndiswrapper and installed the driver sis163u.inf (XP compitable) as some guide said I should. Blacklisted the bcm43xx-drivers and restarted a few times. Nothing has happended. I have no wireless.

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Fujitsu Amilo. After removing the DVD the computer is not able to find the booting on the onboard hard-drive. I get the message "Operating system not found". My first try was from a USB stick, after that I installed from a DVD. I get the same result also after downloading again. What to do. I am confused. I have done the installation on 4 or 5 computers earlier.

My laptop is an Amilo a1650 on which I've very recently installed Ubuntu 9.10. It's worked out fine so far, except that I can't get the wireless card to work. It's an internal Broadcom BCM4318. Where do I start with configuring it?

I'm using Linux Mint 8, kernel 2.6.31-12 (and I tried several other distributions and had the exact same problem) on my FSC Amilo Pro 3525, where I have Intel HDA (ICH7) and Realtek 883. My problem is that when I plug in my external speakers, they do not mute the internal ones.
I've searched and searched the forums and came up with a half-baked solution where in alsamixer I - almost - mute front, and bring master to maximum, and in that way I hear the internal speakers just a little.. and the external ones play at maybe 1/3 of their normal volume. Every time I reboot I have to do this again. I can't mute front entirely because then it mutes all sound.
I tried adding various options to alsa-conf, which seems to be a fairly often suggested solution, including the one where I identify the model of my notebook, and it did not help.
Now. When I tried to find the answer, I came across several tutorials that suggested adjusting options in volume control, etc, inlcuding jacksense, that I found I don't have listed.
Being pretty ignorant about Linux, I came to the conclusion that it might be Pulseaudio that's causing the problem. For instance, alsamixergui shows Pulseaudio as card. I did try preventing Pulseaudio from loading, did not help.

I have a Fujitsu Amilo Pi 3525 notebook with 4 GB RAM and I am trying out Fedora 15 64-bit. When I boot from the CD, it reboots at the point where plymouth should exit and X should start. There are no obvious error messages from the console; it just reboots. Here is the hardware spec. for this laptop: [URL]
This notebook has been generally reliable and runs 64-bit Ubuntu without any problems. I am planning to test the CD in another host (although the media check did not fail) and at least try the 32-bit version (even though I know it can't address of the RAM). As experiences with Linux go, it feels a little early to hit a brick wall so early in the process.

installed Opensuse 11.4 onto the Fujitsu Amilo L7320GW laptop, and all works well except for the headphone jack. Sound works from the laptop speakers and when the headphones are plugged in the sound is muted from the main speakers, but no sound via the headphones.I've looked at other threads within the forum, and it appears that editing the 50-sound.conf file has helped other people, however the soundcard is a Realtek ALC655 (chipset VIA VT82xx), and l cannot see a listing for the ALC655 within the alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txtListed below is the information requested:-[URL]

I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.

After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing, zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.

I bought a Diamond Xtreme Sound 5.1 sound card because I had read online that this card was a good choice with Linux and came with universal driver software. I installed the hardware correctly (as it works with WinXP) but I'm not able to get it working with Ubuntu.

I have been using Ubuntu as my main OS on my desktops for a couple of years now. Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.

After installing I was not able to get many of the audio programmes to work. After some reading, I realised that this was probably due to jack not starting.
I was unable to get jack to start normally but have been able to get it started with the playback only option selected. Programmes that use jack now work, however there is no sound once jack has been started. The sound does work in other programs when jack is not started. Strangely, I only have to open qjackctl for the sound to stop, and jack is not even started. Initially I thought these problems were due to my sound card not being supported, but I believe that alsa support was added for the via 1708 codec at some point. I found that support had been added in a document showing the changes between alsa versions; however I cannot find the exact model listed as a supported sound card on the alsa site.
I believe that altering jack settings could fix the problem, as i have been able to get audio to work in hydrogen by selecting plughw:0 but there is still no sound in other programs. I have tried altering many other settings but to no avail, however I do not really understand the meaning of the settings that i am adjusting.
Does anyone know what settings to adjust or know something else that might fix this problem so that sound works once jack has been started?
Also, would programmes that use jack such as audacity, hydrogen, and ardour work with pulseaudio as the main sound server if I were to install normal ubuntu - it might be worth seeing if my soundcard works with the puleaudio sound server
if this helps, here is the error message received when jack does not start when the normal duplex option is selected.
21:24:04.867 Patchbay deactivated.
21:24:04.868 Statistics reset.
21:24:04.886 ALSA connection change.
Cannot connect to server socket err = Connection refused
[Code].....
also, when i open alsamixer in the terminal for some reason the headphone part is greyed out, even when the sound is working before qjackctl is opened.

I've got a custom compiled kernel, just built on Lucid 10.04 from the kernel sources.System works fine, except for sound. When I log in as normal user and try to play a wav file using. The sound file is being played, but I hear no sound. However, when I do "sudo -s" and become root, execute the same mplayer command then I can hear the sound. My Sound preferences shows no input device and only "Dummy Output" as output device. On the generic kernel as came with the Lucid 10.04 CD, sound preferences shows different devices. The strange thing is: when I compiled my custom kernel, I changed nothing to the sound options in the kernel config file.

I have no sound, is it possible to restore the default sound drivers/settings in 10.04?It was work well before except for one issue, I couldn't get mic in for Rosetta Stone using wine. I have followed so many howto's to try and get Rosetta Stone working and then my sound working again.I think this is my main problem I upgraded alsa to "alsa-driver-1.0.23". For a couple of days ago, maybe a week or two I beguinne to get a 'snap-sound' in my compurt sound, like an eletrick charge or someting. I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and have this sound-card: 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1)
My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?

Playing a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

Recently I have started using my netbook (Acer Aspire one D250) alot more due to travelling and I noticed that the mic didn't work. Headed to the Ubuntu forums and saw a thread about installing ALSA. So I did and now I have no sound. From what I can tell ubuntu is no longer picking up my sound devices but I'm sure. Hence why I am here. I need to get my sound working again (obviously) and then in turn get my mic working for mumble and other VOIP programs.

Strange one. Just upgraded my mother-in-law's computer from 8.04 to 10.04 via the update manager. All seems to be working beautifully except ...
* When I run gstreamer-properties and do an output test I get a test sound through the headphones plugged into the front audio socket of the machine using the 'Analogue Headphones' setting in Sound Preferences. (This rules out dead headphones.)
* When I try to play audio through any app I get no sound through the headphones, but if I change the setting to 'Analogue Output' in Sound Preferences I get audio loud and clear through the speakers which are plugged into the audio socket at the rear of the machine. how the gstreamer-properties test is getting audio to the front socket I guess I'd be getting somewhere.

I am setting up a mythtv/xmbc box on Ubuntu 10.10 (natty does not install on my hardware). I have a Sabrent TV PCIRC tuner card, which seems to work fine with the proper card and tuner settings. My on-board sound is HDA-Intel surround sound, which I have configured as analog duplex.
Currently the sound works fine through my speakers plugged into any jack on the back of the PC (two speakers, one jack). I can watch ripped movies and listen to music. The TV tuner is pumping sound from its external jack -- if I hook it up directly to the speakers it works fine. I can feed the Tuner's sound to the line-in on my motherboard, but nothing comes out. In the sound manager, i have the input device selected and the input level shows that the sound is coming in through the connector, and I can test the speakers and they work fine, but they don't seem to be communicating that the sound coming in needs to be pumped out through the speakers.

Recently installed Ubuntu 9.1 following an easy how to. The install session went really well, smooth and only had one little speed bump when deciding which drive to install to (running raid and did not want to loose other partition). Like most speed bumps I got passed it. Ran all the updates then decided to start listening to music with Rythmbox Music Player. The sound coming out of my Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 was muffled and sounded like just the subwoofer was on. I checked all connections and they were fine. I tried looking for equalizer but did not find it and then noticed the sound was like a skipping record. So I looked it up and came across some posts that I could not figure out if they were for my problem. Seemed to me they were just leading me in circles.

In ubuntu 10.04 my X-fi Fatal1ty Titanium sound card worked for my speakers but I had to use onboard sound for the mic. When I installed 10.10 the sound card no longer works at all so I have to run the speakers through the onboard sound.
The second problem I have is that Skype will not pick up my microphone all other programs seem to be able to record from the microphone just fine but skype does not. Ive tried selecting all the different input device options from the skype settings but none of them seem to work.
EDIT: Sound doesn't work at all in wine.
EDIT2: The X-fi card no longer shows up in the sound control panel.

The sound stopped working on my Macbook Pro 1,1. It was working fine before, and I can't think of any changes I made that would make it stop working. I know it's not a hardware problem because the Apple sound plays when I turn on the computer. Everything is unmuted in ALSA Mixer. None of the hardware options in Sound Preferences produce sound. Plugging in headphones or speakers does not solve the problem. I'm using 10.10.One curiosity: Whenever I do something that would normally cause sound to play, the optical audio red light in the headphone jack turns on, but no sound plays.
