I have installed the 10.04 ubuntu and all was good, but after doing the updates the shutdown button has gone from the corner near the clock and from the system menu.
if i go logoff the shutdown button is at the bottom but doesnt work.
I can shutdown in the terminal tho.
How can i fix this (put the buttons back)?
looking for a command that shutdown/reboot my ubuntu just same as process that happened when I press shutdown buttonIn fact I need to close all programs that are running and then PC shutdown (that happened when I press shutdown button).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI did a live upgrade from 11.3 KDE and observe a following issue.When I press the shutdown button on the laptop it initiates the shutdown and shuts down fine but after a significant delay of time (something like 30 seconds). When I click the shutdown button in KDE it initiates the shutdown instantly. This was not the case in 11.3 where the shutdown worked the same regardless of the method that triggered it

I moved things around a bit and I added a top panel to make my lubuntu be more what I'm use to with gnome but I deleted the bottom panel and now I can't find a way to add a shutdown button to the panel..

A few days ago I updated to 8.04.4 on both and since then when I click on the red Shutdown button and then click on 'Shutdown' it just logs me out. Anyone have this happen to them after the update? For some strange reason, the lockscreen... shutdown button has suddenly disappeared from the top right of my wife's desktop - it's a circle with a short vertical line at the top. I've found a Shut Down button via 'Add to Panel', but it doesn't have quite the same functionality, e.g. it doesn't support switching to another user. Any idea how to get the lost button back?

Now, on bootup, it will take me to the login screen and then basically freezes. The keyboard and mouse do not work and I cannot login to any profile. I tried a clean reinstall, but it only finds the preferences I have and sends me right back to the login screen.

I would like to bind the Power key on the keyboard to execute the /sbin/halt command. What I already know is that I can specify an event in inittab (kbrequest) that would execute a command. What I don't know how I can make my system receive pressing Power button as a kbrequest. The scancodes of Power button on the keyboard (by showkey): 0x74 0xf4

I upgraded to 13.1 and found the restart, shutdown buttons do not work. I have to resort to the terminal commands init 6, or poweroff. I then tried to install flash plugin. I modified the slackbuild script as per normal. Then issued the following command which seemed to succeed. But when I try to play utube movie it says flash is not installed. Do I need to rebuild the system?

I have Ubuntu 10.10 on e-machine T-1221 I can shut down the machine using :
sudo shutdown -h from terminal
I can shutdown using powerbutton on case. I can't use the applet indicator powerbutton in root account, but, I can use the command under "System-->-Shutdown" in root account, but I don't see "System-->-Shutdown" in users account. Is there a way to add it ? I installed Debian 6.0 Squeeze on my Acer Aspire 3620 Laptop it works just fine and has the same Gnome Desktop. The only thing different is that there is no powerbutton available thru Gnome applets, only the command on menu under" Sytem-->-Shutdown", which I'm fine with on this machine.

I read the bug reports it stated that on live-cd there was only suspend and hibernate. There is no shutdown or reboot. I tried: "#start acpi", it closed with errors. It said that Ubuntu uses upstart. Is there a script which you can add to power button to add the shutdown.? Really I don't necessarily need powerbutton, I think the work around would be adding the command to "System-->-Menu.

View 5 Replies View Related1) Any process (including boot, shutdown, download, open programs, etc) is freeze (don't have any progress) until I move the mouse or hit any button, so for install and use my ubuntu I have to keep moving my mouse and as you imagine is VERY TIRED.2) I get some general freeze on random times, neither the mouse, keyboard or process move, I notice that if I unplug power it unfreze, and I can work for some time.This 2 problems annoy me a lot, and I suspect is a problem related to my Netbook Model, I read about someone that has the same problem but no solution there.
This is what I did:I Try Ubuntu loading from my USB memory (1GB), run very good but with the 2 problems, but I thought it can be resolved installing.I installed along side with W7, couldn't boot Ubuntu, so I configured GRUB2 and it could enter now, but if I don't press **** after selecting Ubuntu it give me the BusyBox, and then the same 2 problems.I get rid of my W7 and did a Full Install on my 160GB HDD, hoping it can work fine, but no.I install all updates and no effect on that.
