Ubuntu :: No Application Is Registered As Handling File?
Oct 20, 2010
I remember having the same problem with kde/Fedora a few years back, and I can't remember the solution. Trying to open any attachment in evolution gives the error "No application is registered as handling this file" and you have to save the attachment, and then open it as normal. I have checked all the file associations, and they are fine, and the same attachment in evolution under Gnome opens fine.
I remove the applications which i don't use from main-menu. Now i can not see them from "open with" menu when i right click to a file.
Also it will be very nice if Ubuntu can show me on the "open with" menu the possibilities of applications which can open properly the file type which i want to open. I try to configure with ubuntu-tweak's "file type manager" but it is not possible to configure all of file types. I think Ubuntu's applications must to know which applications has to show for which file types. And i don't know how to do that. I need an application like this : url
I get a new user from the same OS, and i see that the same problem still there... For example many many compressed files, audio or graphic files are not associated with vlc or gimp.
I try to configure from system files of gnome but it is very complicated.
Swiftfox does not have default file handling, and thus I cannot open files from the download menu. When I go to choose the program I want to open the file with, it just takes me to my Home folder in Nautilus. I have no idea where to find the programs I need (Image Viewer, Open Office, and Movie Player are the main ones I need).
I was wondering if it would work as regular ram or would it just not work at all.For a MSI PM8M-V 7104 motherboard [URL]I got this PC as a street throwaway. PS was dead.
My ISP doesnt provide a client for linux However theres a login form on the browser which they provide which helps connecting my account and logging in into it.Thus starting the internet. Now the problem is of machine id. Whenever I try logging in through Ubuntu it says "your machine ID is diff from the one registered with us"
This problem doesnt come with my WinXP. Are the machine IDs diff for Ubuntu and winXP? How can I make them same?to edit the ubuntus to make it same as winxp? I cant you internet on Ubuntu because of this!
I ordered my VPS but my domain name that I registered my VPS with is with another host. So obviously I have to update the nameserver options there. How can i find out what my nameserver settings on my vps? I'm using webmin.
I am trying to install Wireshark after I "untar"-ed it.This is the first time I am running RH on one of my PERSONAL PC's at home. Do I need to Register my Red Hat OS for "yum" to work? I got this RH cd from work.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, and I'm trying to VNC into my Ubuntu box from my MBP. I can connect just fine, however, I am unable to register any mouse clicks or keyboard input on the resulting desktop. I'm launching it as follows: x11vnc -nomodtweak -scale 9/10 I can log in using my Windows box and UltraVNC and use input with no problem.
Anybody else get this message after a recent upgrade to testing (at least)?
Setting up portmap (6.0.0-3) ... Starting portmap daemon....
There are RPC services which were registered with the portmapper before the configuration was changed. You need to manually restart them in order for the changes to take effect. Current registered services:
I already setup my samba, openLDAP as well as smb-tools but when I try to registered my winXP client into Linux Domain, there was an error "a device attached to the system is not functioning" but browsing of user folder is possible, by typing in run command \server1 then provide a username and password.I can also transfer some documents on that folder, only registering from linux domain is my problem...
i have ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala and then upgraded to 10.4 lucid lynx.in karmic my playTV pro3 can works but after upgraded to lucid my FM tuner doesnot detected.my pixelView playTV pro 3 can works in Xp Windows, both TV and FM tuner.
I really have tried Googling this over many, many hours, and I still can't make sense of it all, especially since I keep reading conflicting info.
In 9.10, the Usplash boot splash was replaced by XSplash, which is based on X11, and when we all realised something was up with GDM (when we couldn't find a way to customise the login anymore), I read it was not GDM controlling that anymore, but X11. So, the way I read it (on many different sites), XSplash in 9.10 controlled both the boot splash and the login, even though the hacks for customising the login involve commands with "gdm" in them.
Now, in 10.04, the short-lived XSplash has been replaced by "Plymouth", and I get all that... as far as the boot splash goes. What I don't understand is the login process.
There is talk of GDM2 coming out, and I've seen people asking when this will be implemented in Ubuntu, but if the move is away from GDM altogether towards a boot/login process totally based on X11, will this happen?
More importantly, what is controlling the login now? Is it still GDM, or is it X11 that gdm commands work on or something? (The hacks people used in 9.10 still work in 10.04)
Also, because I have Xubuntu and Kubuntu in the same system, and have had things like KDM taking over login happen after upgrades, I have to ask what is controlling the boot process and login for Ubuntu's siblings? (To me they now look almost identical, so wonder if they're all X11 based)
I have been using so far only 32bit ubuntu, but now for various reasons I have to change to 64bit I need to compile a lib for gpg encryption for handling old keys, namely .I have the idea.c file and had some instruction with which I was able to create the lib from it for the 32bit linux. The intruction was:
gcc -Wall -02 -shared -fPIC -o idea idea.c
this seems not to work under 64bit and the old lib does not work under 64bit either obviously. particularly the compiler tells me -02 option is unknown, does it matter? or what is -02 ?
Akonadi control process not registered at D-Bus. Details: The Akonadi control process is not registered at D-Bus which typically means it was not started or encountered a fatal error during startup. How can I solve this?

just noticed when I went to burn a cd (just got a new car and at the moment the stereo does't have a auxiliary port and I'm not about to use a shotty fm transmitter) that k3b spikes the cpu through the roof an freezes when I write/burn/convert a m4a media file... I'm using k3b version 1.91.0.
I'm just starting out on a project relating to web search, to be done in C++. Which library should I use to help with downloading web pages into memory so that I can process them? The big thing is I want to be able to download the pages into variables/structures without actually putting them onto the hard disk.I googled and saw libcurl, but I was confused by some of the examples and wondering if this was really what I wanted.
I wonder how error handling is done in C in real applications, by returning a error code when something goes wrong, or by using setjmp and longjmp, or something else?
Code: $ mutt mailto:url?subject="Whoop dee doo" Now mutt exits silently with status=1. Tried setting EDITOR/VISUAL, no difference.
Edit: I had tempdir pointed at a non-existent directory in my .muttrc. Still annoying that there was no error message, but at least things are working again.
I have a squeeze net install cd I downloaded and have used to install on two computers. Now I try to install on a third computer, install seems to go well, but when I try to run it, I get the message about 'driver' pcspkr already registered. Then CRASH. So, I wiped the HD and tried again; same result.
I figured the cd might have been corrupted so downloaded and burned another. This time I downloaded from a different mirror. Same result. I don't know what this pcspkr is all about; I don't even own any pc speakers. The computer on which this happens runs Lenny on another HD.
Im currently using kernel version 2.6.33.3 and i have recompiled. I have bought a serialboard(PCIe 7800) from addi-data and im not sure whether it is properly installed.
When i type in "cat/proctty/drivers", the listing contain a line:
When i type in "lspci",
From my card distrubutor, 7013 means it is APCIe-7800. meaning my system identified the board correctly. why is there an "Unknown" word in the line?
When i type "dmesg", it only shows i have 4 ports,
And i dun have the identification of the PCI slot in which the board is plugged from these "dmesg" command which are usually type MMIO.
I have an amd phenom II 9950 125 watt am3 cpu, and 16GB of ddr3 1066 ecc registered 4x4G dimms.I am trying to find a motherboard that works with this memory.I like the reliability of ecc, and I want ot use it.
I want to watch some videos at iTunes U from MIT, but my browser says, "itms is not a registered protocol". Is there some way I can still access the videos, say with wget?
