Ubuntu :: No UPnP Message After MySQL Update?

I just ran some system updates today. MySQL was among them. after rebooting. I got a message I haven't seen since I was first installing several months ago. I couldn't connect to the database.
At first, I freaked out because I didn't know what to do. I tried checking my passwords, but I still don't understand all the configuration for MySQL. I tried reconfiguring the myth packages, but couldn't get through the setup. It would just bounce me out after a few attempts because of incorrect password sets.
I finally figured out, from the logs, that MySQL hadn't logged anything since it's 'successful shutdown' after the updates. It hadn't even tried to come on. I started it manually and everything seems to be fine, but how do I get it to start at startup again?

I can't get mysql to update from lenny (mysql-5.0) to squeeze (5.1). apt tries to start the server but comes up with some kind of configuration script error.

I was running 10.04 LTS and had decided to stick to the LTS versions as I'm now running my machine as a server and don't want to be updating regularly.Every time I logged in via SSH I got a message telling me there where packages to update including a security update. So I did a search to find out how to perform an update on Ubuntu server from the command line.What I found was to do this:sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get dist-upgradeAfter doing that I rebooted but now my machine gives me this message:

Whenever Ubuntu tries to update itself or if I initiate an update I can install every but Deluge's update.I get the following:
AN ERROR HAS OCCURE:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/deluge-common_1.2.0-2~karmic~ppa1_all.deb: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/pyshared/deluge-1.2.0.egg-info/dependency_links.txt', which is also in package deluge-core 0
What does this mean? It suggests filtering broken to fix it. I do so and mark deluge for reinstallation but it doesn't seem to solve anything.

I am unable to update apt-get and I am unable to install any software. The following message when I use the sudo apt-get update command:

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
When I for example try to install the gcc I also get weird feedback:
gcc is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
I thought it was that they where already installed on the comp, however, the computer keeps telling me that gcc is not installed. I am not quite sure what to do. I am using the latest version of ubuntu (10.10).

I am helping a friend (remotely) and she has a problem on the laptop which prevents doing any updates. The error message is Could not initialise the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initialising the package information. Please report this bug for the 'update-manager' package and try to include the following error message:

My computer: 3 year old cheapish box, Gigabyte board with onboard video and sound. Cat5 cabled to Linksys wired router to a cable modem. Debian 6.0 Stable. Network installation.
This didn't happen from the initial installation but I now get an error message each time I get the updates.
I first see the red update notification icon top right of Gnome desktop. I click on it, enter root password at prompt. Click the install updates button on the update manager window. The software progress bars show me the download progress but then I get the following errors.
An error has occurred and installing has been aborted. Error Message: subprocess installed post installation script returned error exit status 1
Error message: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured.
I cancel the messages. The notification icon then turns to the reboot icon. If I start the update manager again from the System menu it shows me that my system is up to date, so I suspect the update has taken place. But why am I getting the error messages. This now happens every time I see the new updates icon. Apart from that everything works fine.
I include my source list in case this helps.

I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:

I'am using ubuntu lucid, after today's system updates, mysql stop working at all. Log file at /var/log/mysql/error.log does not say anything about today, and whe I try to start it the terminal hang also in verbose mode.

Sometime during the morning of Feb 23, 2010, I accepted Update Manager's updates on both my desktop and my laptop, both of which are running Karmic and both of which have been regularly updated by Update Manager. Before the updates, which I think I saw included an update to CUPS, my Brother MFC-8820D printer had been running satisfactorily.
Since the updates, all the printer yields, in response to my attempts to print from either my desktop or my laptop, is the following six lines:
ERROR NAME;
configuration error
COMMAND;
setpagedevice
OPERAND STACK;
--dicttype---
Assuming I'm correct that CUPS was updated on Feb 23, is there some way to find out what the latest CUPS update involved, and/or how to return to a prior version?

I was doing a update via Synaptic Package Manager, after it is nearly finished i get that message: Processing triggers for python-central ... Nothing happend so i ctrl-c it and the packet manger shows me no other errors or something else, even all the packages who was marked for upgrade are now upgraded but what about that python message? Do i have to do some check ? or maybe even a repair or even worse re install the OS?

I'm running OpenSuse 11.3 which comes with MySQL Workbench V 5.12.16-8.2. This version hangs on connections and has several other behavior problems that others have reported. For several reasons, I need 5.2+ . As a relatively new regular user of OpenSuse, I've learned that it's much better for me if I work within the package environment (read: I've made mistakes and am willing to learn) so I'm reluctant to try to just load the Suse rpm off the MySQL.org site. So:is there a more recent release of Workbench in a repository I've not found yet? if not, what's the safest way to install this as an rpm that will not impact the rest of the package management system?

I wish to update a CentOS 5.6 system to PHP 5.3.8, but keep the MySQL version at 5.1.
I am using these repos (in addition to the stock CentOS repos):
epel
rpmforge
remi
At present, the system has php-5.3.5-1.el5.remi.1 and mysql-5.1.53-1.el5.remi.
When I attempt to 'yum update php' it automatically wants to update mysql to v5.5. If I explicitly exclude mysql either on the yum command line or in the remi repo config file, it produces depsolving errors.
Where may I find a set of PHP 5.3.8 RPMs which are NOT dependency bound to an upgrade of MySQL from v5.1?

I had to register with a new username, because I could not remember my logon details and have since changed ISP so could not get details sent, anyway that aside to the problem.
I upgraded to 11.04 and all went well (hence posting here and not in the Upgrade section) and it is running fine, well until yesterday.
I ran the update manager as I usually do when first entering Ubuntu and it did an update but then gave me an error message about file permissions and to check my connection (which was connected OK).It has also affected the Software Installer, and now I can not install any new software.
Is this a generic problem with the latest update or is it just my Dell Inspiron 1545 please?

I've noticed in my karmic Koala pulseaudio has many options to make my sound discoverable via upnp/dlna server. I've got a ps3 and a Pinnacle Soundbridge, suitable for this protocol and working fine with mt-daapd or ushare. But I would like to use mplayer and making the sound available to my devices. I've activated the options in Pulseaudio (paprefs) but can't play music in my client device and I can't see the server in the lan.
This is my config:

I have a setup with a mythtv backend that streams media via the built in upnp to two xbox 360s. This works perfect at the moment. However I need a command/script that can identify if either of the two xbox's are connected via upnp. I need this so that I can have the system auto shutdown if no one is connected using the existing mythtv sleep wake features. (Basically if a script returns 1 then dont shutdown if returns 0 then shutdown.)

I'm having problems with my coding. Here is the problem: I have a database with a list of products. I can list all the products OK At the side of each product I have an EDIT and DELETE button. The delete button works fine and deletes the item. The EDIT button displays a form with all the details from the database. I can then edit this form and click on UPDATE. After updating and installing Mysql's TOP, yum broke. When trying to clean, update, or install, the following error occurs:
