Ubuntu Networking :: Sharing Internet Network Manager ?

I used network manager to share internet connection coming to wlan0 with eth1.
I have internet in my PC coming to wlan0 and I want the client I hook to eth1 to have internet too.
It works with network manager but I think it added something I didn't ask for... Apparently the client connecting to eth1 is recieving an IP from a DHCP server outside the range of wlan0 IPs.
How can I configure eth1 to assign an IP that is inside my wlan0 LAN or at least give a static address to eth1 client that's inside my wlan0 LAN and internet keeps functionning.

How do I tell the shared connection that it has a static IP and that I dont want a DHCP on the network?Do I have to set up DHCP on the box with the shared connection, even if that box only runs DHCP for a single IP address being the eth0 that is shared?Or can I tell the shared connection that it has a static IP and still allow network manager to run the shared connection?Or should I specify static IP's for all clients and the shared network manager and install say firestarter on the gateway to run the NAT for the eth0 out to eth1.

how to change the IP range provided by default by Network Manager / dnsmasq from 10.42.43.-- to something else?
I have setup a working network using a Bell wireless modem (Canada) and Network Manager in 8.10, 9.04, and 9.10.to do Internet connection sharing. In 8.10 the only way I could get it to work was with WICD and KPPP, many hours spent on this one. I got it to work in 9.04 and 9.10 using network manager, but certainly not out-of-the-box. If someone would like some tips on how I did it, in each case, let me know.
My current challenge is trying to set the dhcp range of dnsmasq (which I am 99% sure is what is handing out addresses) from th 10.42.43.-- address range to a 192.168.0.-- range.
I HAVE edited /etc/dnsmasq.conf and can get the edits to this file to break the setup (dnsmasq will not start) but have not been able to get it to change the IP address range.
It seems that either this file is ignored, or overridden by some other process. I have looked at the very good post at [URL] about dnsmasq but this does not do the trick.
By the way, the way I can get this to work is to start NM, establish my cellular internet connection, then kill dnsmasq then establish my ICS network (on eth0). If I don't kill dnsmasq, then it does bring up the connection, but it then shuts down in a matter of seconds. It is all very manageable using a launcher (kdesudo pkill dnsmasq) on the task bar, but not all that elegant.
the IP range and where this is provided to Network Manager or the network itself is my real question now.

I'm trying to share internet connection with my wifi capable mobile device. For that I'm creating ad-hoc wifi connection in networkmanager with 'shared to other computers' ipv4 option. And there is the problem - the device cannot get the setting via DHCP. The firewall is adjusted properly by NM, dnsmasq is started. I've looked at dnsmasq arguments string and found that the temporary config file which is provided by NM is empty. So, where else should I look for a possible reason or should I just post a NM bug?

I've got access to my LAN and the Internet via my wired ethernet connection. I'd like to share that access with my iPod Touch (device shouldn't really matter) via an Ad-hoc wi-fi network.
This tutorial in the docs seems to describe the right setup but is very out of date (7.04). Instead I found this tutorial and followed it to create the Ad-hoc wireless network. I was able to connect my touch to the resulting ad-hoc network without a problem, but I didn't have LAN/Internet access.What's the next step to get the clients on the ad-hoc network out to the Internet?I found this page in the docs that says I'd need to install dnsmasq-base and uninstalling dnsmasq. I checked and dnsmasq-base is already installed but dnsmasq is not. I do have dnsmasq in /usr/sbin but the package description makes it sound like this should come with dnsmasq. Is the page out of date? Will uninstalling dnsmasq cause other problems?

I have a second network card in my ubuntu desktop that I have sharing my internet connection with a wireless router. I have set the router to a static ip address within the network cards range. But, every time I restart the computer, the network card uses a different ip address. One time it will be 10.42.43.1, the next time it will be 10.42.46.1, ect. This makes me have to hard reset my router every time it does this. How can I set the network card to use the same ip address all the time?

My Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit regular old desktop version) machine has two NICs, eth0 and eth1. eth0 does not connect to my router (and thus the Internet) automatically. I have to manually click on it in the NetworkManager applet after every reboot.
Internet connection sharing has also been impossible. I gave up trying to do that after about 2 weeks. I was simply trying to share my Internet connection with a Windows XP machine over eth1, but it never worked. I could ping one machine from the other, but couldn't get to the Internet from the Win XP machine.
Removing NetworkManager may be the ticket. Most of the tutorials for Internet connection sharing tell you to enter commands in the console. Maybe one of them will work once I remove the NetworkManager applet.

I'm trying to configure internet access using KDE network manager. Added new VPN pptp connection, set gateway and other options but manager tries to connect for about a minute and breaks then. Here is /var/log/daemon.log

I've read a lot on the internet about various ways of doing this but i've been unsuccessful each time. Basically what i've done is accidently un-installed network-manager because I was having trouble staying connected on my WPA network. The easiest way of reinstalling it I know of is using the CD but I don't have a CD ROM drive and the pen drive I used to install it I no longer have.
I tried using a program called Keryx but you need python installed and from some reason this doesn't come with ubuntu 10.10. I've also downloaded the .deb packages but I still need to download 200kb which is a killer. I've also downloaded it from here too [URL] but the install file makes no sense to me as i'm not a massive linux user. One last thing reinstalling isn't really an option as i've already put a lot of time into setting up this computer.

I have installed WvDial (apparently) but it has no icon or launcher to start it by default, how do i get it to run? I also need basic set up how to. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) and network manager doesn't seem to be able to use my modem to connect to the internet (set up wizard works, appears connected, but then I get page not found error). Hence I wish to use WvDial to try to connect instead.

I have just started using fedora 13 and I am not sure if i am in the right area but here goes...today I was online in my fedora 13 partition on my laptop and I had been online for quite a while then I shut down my machine to recharge the battery then a couple hours later I turned it back on and all of a sudden my network manager applet was missing and I could not connect to the internet, I opened firefox and tried to get to my homepage but it basically just told me that I wasnt connected..
I suspected at first for some strange reason that MAYBE it was my NIC so I booted up into my vista partition and low and behold the internet works fine, so the problem is on the linux side, I have tried every command nm-applet but it just keeps saying an instance of nm-applet is already running, I have no clue how to restore the network manager and get my internet back and the only other piece of information I have is that earlier today I did do a bunch of security updates but the internet was working fine all day even after several reboots through out the day.

I thought to uninstall Gnome Network manager since it was always asking for to connect with wireless internet but it was working fine with wired internet.I uninstalled it and installed wicd. and then for some unknown reasons the internet disappeared.Kindly let me know How can i get back network manager without having internet and make internet work on my computer.I did searched a lot on Ubuntu forums using somone's else computer but no success.So if you let me know how to approach the problem in right manner it shal be great .

I've searched the forums (250 thread limit) for a fix on this, but all the questions seem unanswered or unrelated. My situation is this: I'm running Ubuntu x64 10.10 'Maverick'. I have a cablemodem connection for my Internet access. I have home network running on DD-WRT with the dreadful Linksys WRT54G series router.
My DD-WRT router is 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0.
My Linux box is 192.168.1.61, subnet 255.255.255.0.
I have a VyprVPN connection set up successfully on Linux. Mostly everything works great, speed's fine, latency is what I expect it to be. Except... I also run an SSH server to remotely admin the box at port 22, an Apache server running over SSL at port 7001, and a Transmission web client at port 7002 (only secured by basic HTTP realms auth). All of these things worked before I got the VPN working, I'm of course using NAT at the DD-WRT router.
The endresult I am looking for, is to have the security and protection of the VPN (even if it's only perceived) for everything I do on this machine -- EXCEPT on Apache, the Transmission web panel, and the SSH server, which I want to access from the outside world. I have no firewalls running or configured, not even iptables, not even the SPI firewall on DD-WRT. All connections to the aforementioned services from the outside world timeout coming in to the Linux box. They all work from inside my home network (182.168.1.0/24). I recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.

I'm using ubuntu karmic and I'm not able to connect to the internet with my reliance netconnect data card using network manager. Other distros like fedora, opensuse n sabayon connected easily with nm. Ubuntu detects the data card flawlessly but just doesnt connect.This problem has been persistent even in previous ubuntu versions, n I used to use wvdial. But downloading wvdial on some other comp with every dependency is really cumbersome.

I'm trying to set up a wireless AP with Internet sharing. I currently have the AP setup with hostapd and a dhcp server. The clients can connect but there is not Internet sharing. Now my situation is somewhat uniqe in that my internet connection is my teathered android cell phone. The tether app is azilink and i use openvpn to create a virtual networking interface(tun0).

OpenSuse 11.4 Asus Netbook 1000H Following other members in the forums I have installed Opensuse 11.4 on the Netbook. In the early days Ubuntu Netbook Remix worked well for me. But this has been discarded, and the "one size fits all" Ubuntu had become slow and cumbersome. So..... onto my post. Opensuse is working well. The install went beautifully.
It detected the Wireless Internet and I am able to get on line. I also need to share the Internet connection to a desktop. This is done via a small network switch. Thus far I cannot do this. I tried to use ifup to configure a static ip but this busted my Wireless configuration. I went back to knetwork manager. Then I tried to set up the wired network using knetwork manager and under IPV4 "share" the connection. But this blanks out any possiblity of a static address and substitutes dhcp. My desktop cannot ping the this dhcp address. Ubuntu had this thing called Firestarter? - from memory. This configured the system to sharing the network.

This has already been asked, and answered here: [URL] but there is one problem, this requires a window manager, and network-manager. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 Minimal with no window manager, and i want to recreate the exact effects of the second post in the above thread.
I have one desktop (Ubuntu 9.10 Minimal) with a USB wireless adapter (wlan1) and an ethernet port (eth0). I want my second desktop (also 9.10 Minimal; connected to desktop 1 via ethernet on eth0) to recieve the connection through desktop 1's wireless. I realize this is rather easy with network-manager, but I am not sure how to go about it through command line.

the thing is that I cant use Network Manager to connect to Internet, because it simply do not connect. The connection, although, awailable throught yast when i choose "traditional method with ifup", so everything is just fine, but if i need to reconnect, i have to reboot. How do I setup a !working! connection through Network Manager, or maybe i do not do something properly.

I have a laptop running Windows XP with a secure wireless internet connection. I want to share this connection to my desktop running Ubuntu 9.10 via an direct ethernet cable connection. So far in Windows I checked the "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" in the Wireless Network Connection Properties menu. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and trying to use Internet Connection Sharing through my Dell Mini 9 laptop.
The incoming internet is from wireless The outgoing internet is from Ethernet I am using a crossover cable as I have heard this is necessary I followed the 9.10 method on my Auto Eth 0 connection Here is a link to the Ubuntu Documentation I used The computer I am trying to share to does not pick up the internet being shared from the cable.

I have an Ethernet hub, and want two computers (both notebooks) to share my internet connection. One is running Ubuntu 9.10 and the other is running Windows Vista. I want both computers to be able to connect to the internet (I use a cable modem).
However, when I plug both computers in, I am able to get only one of them working at one time. When Ubuntu works with the internet, Windows does not work (although it sees the internet connection). When Windows works, Ubuntu sees the connection, but cannot connect.

I'm trying to share an internet connection between two computers. The one currently online is a HP Presario running Ubuntu 9.10, and connects through a wireless connection. It has an ethernet port, which I'm hoping to use to connect to a Dell Desktop running Windows XP pro SP 3. I'm hoping to make this happen one of two ways.
1. Without having to mess with any DHCP settings. Sadly, I live with my parents, and the router in their room uses DHCP and sets the addresses for all the computers on the network. My parents don't want me screwing with any of the settings on the router. is there a way to just have Ubuntu pass information from the ethernet connection to the wireless connection without having to deal with DHCP.
2. I'm sure this has been explained, but as I'm new to Ubuntu, I will pretty much need step by step instructions to do this part. Sorry to be difficult. Is there a way to have Ubuntu keep the current settings it has on the wireless side (let the router determine it's address and all of that good stuff), but have a DHCP server kick in on the hard-wired side so Internet Connection Sharing has an address to look for on the laptop?

I want to use the wifi card in my laptop to share my internet connection to my Android Phone.Android phones don't support Ad-hoc networks yet (maybe not ever) so I need to the shared network in Infrastructure mode not ad-hoc mode.Using Ubuntu 10.04, If I click on the NetworkManager Applet ( 0.8 ) and select Create new wireless network, it will create an ad-hoc network, I then tried changing this to infrastructure, but it didn't work.Is there some way of modifying this created network to make it appear as infrastructure, or alternatively create a shared internet connection in infrastructure mode?
