Fedora :: Supergrub To Fix The Grub But With No Success

Jun 1, 2010

I cloned with Clonezilla a partition that contains Fedora 12 installed from F12 Livecd. After I restore the partition to a another computer the grub is no more.I tried with supergrub to fix the grub but with no success.

My questions is: How do I fix my grub with the live cd(fedora), I can't use USB or DVD because the computer doesn't have any?

Fedora Installation :: Installation Success But No Boot Nor Grub Menu

Mar 18, 2011

I installed F14 from my usb according to the wiki page using unetbootin. The usb boots perfectly and i get a working F14 system. I partitioned my HD with gparted and got a /,/home and swap partition, then used the installer to install the system using them. The installer finishes without a problem and ask me to reboot. When I reboot , there is a blank black screen. No grub menu , no fedora loading. I reboot with the usb and the partitions are full with the files from F14 , there is no xorg.log in the /var/log/ so f14 doesn't even start so the problem seems to be with grub.

I check the grub.conf in /boot/ , i set the timeout to 5 secs , i check that the kernel is using nomodeset (according to this wiki page there is a problem with ati), xorg.conf is using vesa as a driver and I reinstall grub with grub-install with no problems.My notebook is a acer aspire 5552 , i don't think is a hardware problem because I've used arch and opensuse with no problems in it. Fedora seems a nice distro , but this error is preventing me from using it.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Install F11 X86_64 Without Success On New Machine?

Jul 15, 2009

For the last couple of days I've been trying to install Fedora 11 x86_64 without success on my new machine, specs below. Intel Core i7-920 2.66Ghz MSI X58 Pro 7200 SATA Drive (can't remember the make) 6GB RAM So first off I tried install the 32bit live cd and that worked without any problems and installed fine. Only problem is I need access to the full 6GB of RAM so I really need to switch to the 64bit version.

I downloaded the full x86_64 install DVD and burnt it off. Rebooted and began the installation. It was going fine until it started installing the packages. The install seemed to freeze, although the mouse would still move. I left this for 10 minutes just incase it kick started again, but there was no HD activity or DVD activity so I gave up and rebooted to try again. The next time I started the install I had problems with it freezing while partitioning. I was beginning to think something was up with my hard drive or the drivers for the hard drives controller weren't working correctly (could still be the case).

After about 20 attempts with it freezing at various points I gave up and decided to try the x86_64 live cd. This booted with no problems so I started the install from the desktop. First thing I noticed was a kernel error pop up after I started the drive partitioning. Something about dereferencing a pointer in the kernel (0x20) (sorry no additional info at the moment, if needed please ask). This got me thinking the kernels not playing nice with my setup. However, it let me continue and copied the live image onto the hard drive. Then it started going through the post installation steps and this is where I got another kernel error (again I can get this if needed) and the window froze and all activity seemed to stop again. Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing these problems. I've also tried a CentOS 5.2 x86_64 version I had lying around and this had similar problems (although this does use anaconda as the installer too).

Fedora Servers :: Cgi Perl Script On Apache Server Have Only Partial Success

Jul 9, 2009

I'm running an Apache web server version 2.2.11 on Fedora 10. I'm trying to get it to run a PERL cgi script but with only partial success. The script uses the PERL cgi package.

The perl script is a simple test case that creates a form to fill in. Once the submit button has been clicked it should then return the data submitted. The perl script writes this to a file called output.cgi

The intial script located in /var/www/cgi-bin/index.cgi gets executed fine when I go to [URL], this works with no probs. However once I hit the button to submit the data I then get the error

Not Found

The requested URL /cgi-bin/output.cgi was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.11 (Fedora) Server at localhost Port 80 Im not sure if its a perl problem or server setup problem, theres probably a simple switch or something but Im out of ideas at the moment.

Debian :: DB Success - Install NIC From Disk?

Oct 8, 2010

would have marked the last thread as solved, but couldn't find where to do it Got it up and running, dual-boot, and no problems after scandisk, and fujitsu helped out. Now I have XP and Debian lenny. Here's where the hard part comes in, for me anyways. Had to do install without NIC, install didn't find it. I have the driver disk for it, with a linux driver on it, but I can't find anything about how to use it.

The driver file has 5 files inside it. 1) Makefile 2) sr9600.c 3) sr9600.h, 2 readme's and a file containing some .png files. I can't find a substitute driver for the card, SUPERAL semiconductor sr9600, that may be already on the stuff I can get using aptitude, so what do I do with this driver...how do I get the system to use it? I NEED networking, a tutorial or some good advice,.. I've googled everything I can think of.

OpenSUSE :: Change To Validate Success Of Script?

Feb 6, 2011

I'm testing some (selfwritten) installer scripts and I'd like to test it on several linux systems. From my script, I create a database and a user, which should have no rights but to the objects created on that database. I create that user with "grant usage on <dbname>.* to 'user'@'%' identified by After that, the user exists, but is not allowed to login with mysql client (same procedure works fine on debian systems). At first thought, I supposed, that I did a mistake on database setup, but then I realized, that I could connect from a different workstation using that user.

To me it looks very strange, that that user sees information_schema and test, but not the database, I used at user creation. From my script I check success of db and user creation by using the created user for connection and exec a 'show databases', which should show the new created db. What am I missing with mysql on Suse systems? Is my expectation wrong, did I make a mistake on database setup or what do I have to change to validate success of my script?

I am in the process of evaluating the move to a EC2 dynamic web server for East Coast West Coast to reduce the lag for interacting with mySQL.Right now we have had great success with mySQL running on our server.ight direction on where I can find documentation onhow to configure Navicat with CentOS 5 running on a EC2 I am suspecting that their is something special on the way it handles the SSH?I am not finding any documentation at all on this, I can not understand this at all. I am sure that someone here is using Navicat along side with an EC2 Amazon server. Well, at least I am hoping so.

I have to spent 5 days in trying to configure a EC2 with numerous Ubuntu setups WITH NO SUCCESS AT ALL. What blew me away was this articleYou should have this posted on your server for 1st time users with one small modification with the ending of the article on how to make it run on Localhost running ofa EC2 Amazon. It was truly a eye opener. For all the talk about Ubuntu and the numerous articles on installing a LAMP server was totally without success. But this article was truly a pleasant experience.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: No Sound - Reinstalled Drivers - No Success

Jan 9, 2010

The only problem I've encountered so far is with my soundcard - a Soundblaster Audigy (basic version). I'm dual booting with XP and followed the exact same procedure as with 11.1. Used GParted to shrink the Windows partition (and yes, I did defragment beforehand) First there was no sound with Opensuse, which didn't really bother me too much as I assumed I needed to d/l some drivers, so fine. I restarted and booted into Windows and find that I have no sound in any applications, yet they appear to be playing, mp3, waves etc and no problems indicated by windows or other programs, in effect the card is fine but not outputting. Reinstalled drivers - no success. Uninstalled the soundcard from Device Manager, didn't work either. In the end I had to physically remove the card,

reboot into windows, then shutdown, insert the card again, then install the drivers. This fixed the problem, but anytime I boot into Opensuse, the same problem occurs, very strange. I'm thinking there may have been a problem during the partitioning stage, maybe some stubborn little windows file didn't want to move during defrag' and got lost. That's the only idea I have at the moment. Tried to remove the Grub Bootloader with 'fixmbr' command, but it still loads.

basicaly what I did after following the guide was: sudo apt-get install alsa-base alsa-utils. sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-sound-base //and choose alsa

but still, for example:
$ alsamixer
puts:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
$ /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start
* Setting up ALSA... [ OK ]

but no alsa process at all. $ aplay -l aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found. It seems to me like sound card drivers are gone..
