Ubuntu Networking :: Rt270 Disconnects And No Reconnects?
Jan 30, 2010
When I use all the band(transmission or browsing too many videos) it disconnects after few minutes and it doesn't connect again until I reboot.
lspci:
05:01.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2760 Wireless 802.11n 1T/2R Cardbus
Code:
sudo lshw -C network
*-network
description: Ethernet interface
product: 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
[Code].....
I could use N and WPA2 by following this thread. If it is possible to reconnect without reboot would be a possible workaround
(I use Ubuntu Karmic x_64)

I seem to be having "disconnects" from my wireless network where I stay connected but am unable to ping any hosts, including my router.
I would like to make a simple cron script that checks for this and reconnects.
Is there a clean way to tell wicd to reconnect?
How about sudo /etc/init.d/wicd restart?
I am on Ubuntu 8.04 amd64
misha@misha-d630:~$ dpkg -l | grep wicd
ii wicd 1.6.2.2-1 wired and wireless network manager

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer TravelMate 3270 notebook (with Windows 7 dual boot) for everyday use. All is great except i started to notice my Wireless Network get disconnected and then reconnects every 5 minutes or so. Also the NetworkManager Applet 0.8 keep annoying me with the notifications that its disconnected and then reconnected.
I do not have this issue while using Windows 7 (in the same area). Can this be fixed. As i really want to move my day to day computing need to Ubuntu.

I have a strange issue w/ F11 and atheros 5212 wifi card using the standard ath5k driver. Every now and then (usually upon bootup but it will kick in every now and then, no rhyme or reason) I will get a kernel panic whereupon my wifi disconnects and I have to manually reconnect. The password screen will popup and I just hit OK and it reconnects. there also appears to be a dmesg line 'disassociated by local choice (reason=3)' in addition to the kernel panic. I've tried using ath9k instead (rmmod ath5k, modprobe ath9k) but that doesn't work at all, no wifi shows up in networkmanager. I also tried to find madwifi and kmod-madwifi via yum but those packages do not appear to be there for F11.

My internet disconnect mabe every second hour and I have to restart the Ubuntu to get internet again. This started to happen when I bought a new wireless card called NETGEAR WG311v3. The live CD didnt have the drivers for it so I had to download XP drivers and install it with ndisrwapper.
So my question is how do I fix it? Do other network drivers crash with my current one? If so how can I see wish one to remove?
Note that my card works fine with XP on same computer.

I have loaded ubuntu Lynx 10.04.1 as a dual boot behind XP home. I have wireless connection to the XP os via netgear wireless G router and USB 2.0 adapter. The network connection works well with the XP side. When I boot into ubuntu I am sure I have configured the network properly with the wep key and password and the network signal is alive in the work bar at the top of the screen. When I open Firefox and try to browse to ,say, ebay it asks for the passphrase again then tells me that FF is in work offline mode. When I correct this I get asked for the pass phrase again and the connection is disengaged. It just keeps asking for the passphrase and disconnecting. When I reboot into XP everything works perfectly again.

I'm using an Acer Aspire One d250 running Netubuntu 10.04. The wireless connection to my router fails at random intervals and spends most of it's time trying to reconnect. It will occasionally ask me to input the password to the network, which is already entered in the dialog box, and clicking "connect" doesn't seem to make any difference. Also, when it is disconnected from the network, none of the other computers in the house, wired or wireless, are having any problems. If there is any more information I could provide,

I use ubuntu 10.10 and disconnects from wireless at random. after it reconnects the the connection speed is very slow and unstable. It's not my router because it works fine on my sister's netbook (which is also running ubuntu) and it worked fine when I was running windows? I'm not very advanced with linux so you know. I don't have IPv6 enabled. My laptop is an "Advent QRC430" my wireless card is QCOM Q802XKG Wireless Network Card.

I have a minor Internet issue. I have a static IP address with the modem acting as a gateway only to my ISP. My Ubuntu server hosts my public IP address and I use pppoeconf to connect. Every 3 hours I lose Internet. I have wrote a short script to reconnect. I doubt that it is my ISP trying to renew that often.

For the past week or so, I've had my wireless connection disconnect and reconnect at seemingly random intervals. It can be anywhere from every minute to every hour, whether I'm using the network or not. I don't recall installing anything that could affect this. I'm fairly certain this isn't a hardware issue, since I haven't had any problems when using my Windows partition. I'm using a D-Link USB adapter (DWA-171).

I just installed Ubuntu this morning and don't have much time to detail my problem before my internet goes out again. I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala?). I just got this laptop earlier this week with windows 7 and decided to put ubuntu on it via Wubi. Anyhoo, I login and then enter my wifi password and eveythings fine. I can surf the internet for a bit and everythings fine. but after a while, the wireless indicator on the keyboard begins to flicker on and off (between a connection and no connection) then starts to stall. The first thing I did was install google chrome (always the first thing to do) and I accidentally downloaded the wrong version A-OK. After I saw I downloaded the wrong version, I downloaded the correct, 32-bit version and installed it. During the download it said I had a 750kBs speed, but took much longer to download than had it been downloaded at a consistent 750kBs speed. I then tried to use update synaptic and it began to download reload all 44 packages and stalled around 38 or so. My internet then disconnected (wouldn't reconnect) and the download failed. I went back into windows uninstalled Ubuntu and then reinstalled it. After going through the first few steps again I began to update via update manager and surfed the web. After a few minutes of surfing the indicator began to flicker than just went off. I then connected to my neighbors internet, continued surfing and then the internet just crashed. I've found that when its just lightweight surfing, everythings okay, but during a download or any 2.0 surfing, then things start to get funky.

This problem is fixed in the upcoming kernel, 2.6.34. You can either wait until Canonical releases the update, or download, build and install the 2.6.34 kernel manually. The instructions to do so are HERE. It's fairly easy.I'm having a problem on Lucid (amd64) with a Linksys WUSB54Gv4 usb wifi adapter. After some time (varies between ~10 mins to a few hours), the connection is lost. However, in my case I can't connect back. It tries to establish the connection, then pops up the dialog asking for the WEP key again. It will do this repeatedly, not ever connecting back. This is basically how the disconnect looks in dmesg:Quote:
[ 2657.920014] phy0 -> rt2500usb_set_device_state: Error - Device failed to ente
r state 1 (-16).
[ 2658.120008] phy0 -> rt2500usb_set_device_state: Error - Device failed to enter state 3 (-16).

I've recently downloaded, installed Ubuntu 10.04 (june 5 2010)
As title suggests, this is about my USB wireless adapter Linksys WUSB54G ver.4 periodically failing. Now, the exact problem AND solution was posted on this thread:
[URL]
Essentially, I have to try a new kernel or something. I downloaded the kernel 2.6.34 at http://kernel.org/ which is supposed to solve my networking problem. But above thread suggests building my own kernel somehow [URL] and some of its steps are unfortunately not straightforward as copy-and-paste and i'm afraid i can't go on after trying to mimic command prompts a few times.
I tried referring to other sites, like
[URL]
but their suggested steps aren't exactly the same, or maybe they are really but i'm too dumb to see it.
I think I managed to copy the config file (i hope i chose the right one) and put it to the extracted folder of new kernel I just downloaded, but "Build the linux-image and linux-header .deb files" ?

After upgrade to Lucid I have experienced intermittent wireless disruptions. The wireless just cuts out and reconnects. And I was hoping to continue or follow up on the same thread however with the released version.I tried replacing network manager with wicd and I tried the other driver options both without success.I'm currently using the Broadcom B43 driver, when I tried the Broadcom STA driver wireless would not work. I use the 64 bit OS, and this problem did not appear prior to the upgrade.

I have a Dell Studio 1737 running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.My WiFi was working fine a few days ago until I tried to boot into another mode that allows me to boot into my other Ubuntu 10.04 or Windows Vista.I booted into that Ubuntu, which I thought had been overwritten when I was having problems and installed the one I am currently using.I shut down since it didn't have anything of any use to me at the moment, and I booted back into this current Ubuntu. Now, whenever I shut my laptop screen and open it back up to login, the WiFi is disconnected.(I was also having this problem on the Ubuntu that I booted into earlier, but that WiFi did this from the start on that one.)

I use a PPTP VPN for privacy and bittorrent. I have been over all very happy, only taking about a 1/4 hit to my over all network speed. However, I recently downgraded my VPN package, and the new sever I connect through is sometimes unstable with a high throughput. Because of this I am trying to find a way to block ALL (HTTP, bittorrent, email, etc) outgoing network traffic when the VPN fails, and then resume the traffic when the VPN reconnects. Essentially forcing all data through the VPN, and creating the illusion of simply having no network connection to the outside world at all when the VPN is offline/re-connecting. This is opposed to the current situation when the VPN will fail, all my traffic will switch to direct (visible) access through my ISP, and the VPN will re-establish sometime later (2-3mins, normally. Unless I manually restart it sooner).
I have tried Google, but have only been finding information on configuring local web access outside of the VPN for the sake of speed. Information of which I cannot seem to find a way to apply to this.

I facing a really annoying problem. I download regularly during the night using Wifi. The problem is that because I'm away, the wireless just disconnects and the pop window shows up asking me to into the password. The password is already saved in the windows so I just have to click 'connect'ut I don't understand why does it disconnect and when it tries to connect it asks for password again!y doesn't it simply 'try' to connect without asking the password when it is already saved.

I recently upgraded from Maverick Meerkat to (classic) Natty Narwhal Ubuntu Linux. I am running on a Toshiba Satellite A665 (Intel i7). I use a wireless internet connection. Under Maverick, I had no issues. Under the update, I am finding that occasionally things stop working: The indicator Applet looks fine, but from a terminal, I find that I am no longer able to ping my own router (less than 10 feet away.) This behavior occurs after working fine for a few hours. I am unsure if anything in particular triggers it (I will report back if I determine a particular cause). I have a few other computers (2 running Windows, and the other Maverick Meerkat) -- and they are unaffected. Turning wireless off and on resolves the issue for me on Natty. Rebooting also works. Here's some hopefully relevant technical details about my system:
Code:
~$ rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

I'm having issue with my wireless connection. I'm not sure if it is the WPA security causing the issue, but I randomly lose connection to the router. The network manager then scans for available wireless routers for a bit before trying to reconnect to my router and asking for my wireless password again.
