I have experienced sudden wifi disconnects. My laptop fails to reconnect even after repeated attempts. It is only after a reboot that I am able to connect to the wireless.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Studio 1737 running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.My WiFi was working fine a few days ago until I tried to boot into another mode that allows me to boot into my other Ubuntu 10.04 or Windows Vista.I booted into that Ubuntu, which I thought had been overwritten when I was having problems and installed the one I am currently using.I shut down since it didn't have anything of any use to me at the moment, and I booted back into this current Ubuntu.Now, whenever I shut my laptop screen and open it back up to login, the WiFi is disconnected.(I was also having this problem on the Ubuntu that I booted into earlier, but that WiFi did this from the start on that one.)

The only way to get a connection again is to shut down my laptop and remove the battery and the AC adapter (WiFi-adapter reset) and reboot my laptop. After a new fresh-from-DVD install of Fedora 14 64-bit (over top of Fedora 12 64-bit which went over top of Fedora 10 64-bit before that) my Linksys WUSB600N adapter connects at login to my WiFi N router with WPA2 Personal.
That is great, as previously (fc10/12) I had to use the Ralink drivers per ogetbilo's thread on this forum (that thread kept me on the net for many years now). And at some point this even became a pain because sometimes the system would boot and refuse to connect to the wireless (which would hang trying to connect) and then crash to a dump screen on shutdown (bug reported). The fix was hoped to be found in upgrading to F14 and the newer kernels with working native Ralink chip support.
But I still have an issue... the connection stays up for a few minutes then drops. If I disable/re-enable wireless it (at least sometimes) re-connects. But obviously that is not workable. This is a USB adapter and I am not entirely sure that there is not some USB powersave issue going on, but I do not see anywhere to disable system USB power saving either.
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 because I was facing internet problems with previous Ubuntu 9.04 after I upgraded it with downloaded software. And now, 10.10 connects to wireless, but shows web-page some-times and repeatedly disconnects. Earlier it wasn't reaching Internet at all. Some of the topics here helped a lot. But this intermittent internet seems not going anywhere. Wired Internet connects easily though.
I've tried :-
-disabling ipv6..... first in Firefox, then in Kernel also
-Setting DNS.....System> Preferences> Network Connections
-setting static Ip
The system still gives trouble.

The appindicator that showed my wifi status has all of a sudden disappeared. I don't know what happened.
It so it used to be just that problem that I stated above. Now, I can't even install updates anymore from the update manager. When I click install, nothing happens.
This is going to sound weird but my wifi interconnection is really good i never have any problems but when i open skype, go to options and click test webcam my wifi disconnects and will not return till i restart the pc

I am on a toshiba laptop with a wireless internet connection, I have recently purchased a logitech pro 9000 webcam , I plan on using it for skype. So the wifi is working fine, I plug in the usb webcam and all of the sudden I just lose connection and my keyring doesn't even remember the wep key for my wifi. I am amateur with linux based system but I have taken a operation system class so I know some stuff and can follow instructions quite well.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 but other than that the most annoying thing I've found is that my wifi will randomly disconnect from the network...like it will say its still connected but pages wont load and all my torrents just stop, and then I have to manually disconnect from the network and then reconnect and it works for about a min and then happens again. I couldn't even get enough internet to post this from my laptop so I had to post this at school from a windows. Idk whats going on but it sucks because I cant really use the comp without the internet..

I have configured my laptop not to suspend itself when the lid is down. I can verify that the laptop still runs when the lid is down, because I can hear the music if it is already playing. However the Wifi always disconnects when the lid is down. If I am downloading a file, it always gets interrupted.

I do not observe this behaviour when operating my laptop under Windows 7. Following some suggestions given in this forum , I uninstalled networkmanager and installed wicd. The dmesg output shows firmware request (highlighted with red font), but I have already installed the firmware using YAST.
For most of today I had my internet connection dropping out on me intermittently. I assumed it was a provider issue, as it has been unreliable in the past. After it dropped out for good, and I could not print through network, I realised it was not a provider issue. All the other computers in the house were connected, including another ubuntu box. Only the MacBook Pro 5,5 was not able to connect. The network manager indicated I was connected to the network, throughout the whole time.
A number of restarts with the kernel I normally use (2.6.31-19) including one in recovery mode, yielded no change, but a restart with the 2.6.31-20 kernel resulted in connectivity. Finally, perhaps by chance, wireless started to work again on the 2.6.31-19 kernel, after I once booted into the Mac OS, and then back into Karmic. How I might go about diagnosing, obviously in hindsight, what happened? I suppose I should look in the log files, but I have no idea where exactly, and what to look for.
I was connecting to the internet with no problems at all until two days ago. a while back I set my local IP to #.#.#.11, the internet failed.

I removed the added code from /etc/network/interfaces and the internet started up again, however the card retained the .11 IP address and has done through many installs... Don't know why or how, probably just a router DHCP setting not retiring the IP of machines.
That wasn't a problem as far as I know.
Ok, so I check a wired connected win7 pc and an ipconfig /all shows he's got the #.#.#.11 address. Checked a wireless win7 netbook and it got a #.#.#.24 address
Wireless key double checked and is correct.
I'm now on my WinXP partition (dual boot with the same ubuntu install that won't connect to the internet) it's getting the IP #.#.#.5 and is connecting with no trouble(albeit slow windows)
All machines are set to automatic configure, but obviously retain the same ip for a while.

The problem is that if I try and connect to the router it does the "connecting rotating circle" and then just either has a message "disconnected from wireless" or asks me again and again for the WPA key, which is already correct.
LiveCD and fresh install both fail, used ndiswrapper and it's always worked fine before.

At first I was connecting to the internet via WiFi on my home network, and all of the sudden I couldn't connect to my wireless network anymore. The strange part was that I couldn't see my wireless network connection. I installed 11.04 last week. Everything was working brilliantly until I turned on my laptop today. Now my wireless internet is running soooo slow. Requests take like 5 seconds, then it loads the page for about 10 seconds. Last night it was running fast.Chrome/Chromium/Firefox all run super slow. I tried turning off wireless-N and using G instead, but that didn't help. My windows 7 desktop is not experiencing the same problems in Chrome, or Firefox. I'm not sure if it's updates that I installed yesterday that didn't take until I restarted today

For some reason, I can see both wired and wireless networks available but when I try to connect, it times out. I updated a couple of days ago and suddenly started having problems today. Anyone else having the same problem?I have only tried the router and repeater I have to connect to. My other computers are working just fine. One is actually running as a Debian server with no GUI (which I do not update as often). The other is a Mac.

After installing RT3070 drivers for my RT2070 card I got everything working and life was good. Now, all of the sudden I am having a world of problems connecting to the internet. I can connect to my AP fine, but I cannot access the internet. If I attempt to ping my AP by IP address I get severe packet loss. I cannot ping my AP by url [URL] at all so Im guessing there are some DNS issues as well.

I could use N and WPA2 by following this thread. If it is possible to reconnect without reboot would be a possible workaround

My internet disconnect mabe every second hour and I have to restart the Ubuntu to get internet again. This started to happen when I bought a new wireless card called NETGEAR WG311v3. The live CD didnt have the drivers for it so I had to download XP drivers and install it with ndisrwapper.
So my question is how do I fix it? Do other network drivers crash with my current one? If so how can I see wish one to remove?
Note that my card works fine with XP on same computer.
I have loaded ubuntu Lynx 10.04.1 as a dual boot behind XP home. I have wireless connection to the XP os via netgear wireless G router and USB 2.0 adapter. The network connection works well with the XP side. When I boot into ubuntu I am sure I have configured the network properly with the wep key and password and the network signal is alive in the work bar at the top of the screen. When I open Firefox and try to browse to ,say, ebay it asks for the passphrase again then tells me that FF is in work offline mode. When I correct this I get asked for the pass phrase again and the connection is disengaged. It just keeps asking for the passphrase and disconnecting. When I reboot into XP everything works perfectly again.

My Ubuntu server hosts my public IP address and I use pppoeconf to connect. Every 3 hours I lose Internet. I have wrote a short script to reconnect. View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu this morning and don't have much time to detail my problem before my internet goes out again. I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala?). I just got this laptop earlier this week with windows 7 and decided to put ubuntu on it via Wubi. Anyhoo, I login and then enter my wifi password and eveythings fine. I can surf the internet for a bit and everythings fine. but after a while, the wireless indicator on the keyboard begins to flicker on and off (between a connection and no connection) then starts to stall. The first thing I did was install google chrome (always the first thing to do) and I accidentally downloaded the wrong version A-OK. After I saw I downloaded the wrong version, I downloaded the correct, 32-bit version and installed it. During the download it said I had a 750kBs speed, but took much longer to download than had it been downloaded at a consistent 750kBs speed. I then tried to use update synaptic and it began to download reload all 44 packages and stalled around 38 or so. My internet then disconnected (wouldn't reconnect) and the download failed. I went back into windows uninstalled Ubuntu and then reinstalled it. After going through the first few steps again I began to update via update manager and surfed the web. After a few minutes of surfing the indicator began to flicker than just went off. I then connected to my neighbors internet, continued surfing and then the internet just crashed. I've found that when its just lightweight surfing, everythings okay, but during a download or any 2.0 surfing, then things start to get funky.

I upgraded to Karmic the other day and my Wireless Internet has been disconnecting every hour or so. I had the same problem on Intrepid but I managed to fix it somehow. After disconnecting, it will reconnect after a few seconds.
