use kubuntu 9.10 64-bit on AMD Turion M500 machine.The network keeps disconnecting periodically or on some heavy activity The connection is totally stable on windows 7 though.My doubts point to network manager and so my next step is to switch to command line wpa_supplicant

well I have found a fix, if I disconnect my computer via software (Right click and disconnect "eth1" and shut down the network will remain up. I want to make a script that runs on shutdown that simply disconnects "eth1". Are there any pre-made shutdown scripts in ubuntu that I can simply add "eth1 enabled = 0" or something.
i installed linux at home on my laptop (dv2000, hp). Because i was having problems connecting to the internet through wireless. And wired at friends houses.So installed linux. Wireless took me a while but finally got that working. Now the problem i have is that wired is not working apart from at home. Any other router apart from mine it cannot connect to.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer TravelMate 3270 notebook (with Windows 7 dual boot) for everyday use. All is great except i started to notice my Wireless Network get disconnected and then reconnects every 5 minutes or so. Also the NetworkManager Applet 0.8 keep annoying me with the notifications that its disconnected and then reconnected.
I do not have this issue while using Windows 7 (in the same area). Can this be fixed. As i really want to move my day to day computing need to Ubuntu.
It's a bit unnerving.The monitor suddenly goes black, the keyboard resets, the mouse resets. And after about 2 - 3 seconds all is back to normal.My USB setup is a bit complicated (mostly because I could). A 7 port hub is connected to a USB port on the computer. Among other things, the 7 port hub is connected to a four port hub on the monitor (Viewsonic). The mouse is connected to the 4 port hub. The PS1 keyboard is connected to the PS1-to-USB convertor which is connected to the 4 port hub.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIve recently switched over to AT&T Uverse TV/Internet service and I've noticed that when I ssh into my linux( 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5xen CentOS) server I get disconnected. When I'm using putty it gives the "network error software caused connection abort" error. When I'm at work using one of our jump servers and ssh'ing from the command line it will freeze up from time to time but never disconnects. I think the problem is either with the OS or the new AT&T modem. At first I had my CentOS server using DHCP and it would disconnect within a few minutes after I ssh'ed. I switched over to a static IP and now it goes about 10 minutes before it disconnects. It doesnt matter if I'm actively typing or not, so it's not an inactivity issue. I have the firewall turned off on my laptop, and since the issue happens on multiple devices, including my iphone I dont think thats the issue.
I have iptables and selinux turned off/disabled so thats not it. In putty I have enabled Keep Alive(30 seconds) and it still disconnects. I opened the port on the modem to allow ssh for the IP of the linux server. Ive also recently reinstalled this server with CentOS so I can't compare with the previous internet provider as I didn't reinstall until after I switched over. BUT previous installs with CentOS 5.2 worked fine with the previous ISP. AT&T Modem is a 2wire 3800HGV-B
The main thing preventing me from going Linux although I have it installed in a multi-boot is the probelm I have with Reconnecting the Network (eth0)
If I reboot everything is fine and I am automatically connected to internet via my Ethernet_NAT_router/Homeplug_PowerLine/Cable_Router (using DHCP)
But if I manually disconnect the Network using the tray icon, or through the terminal, when I reconnect the Network Manager says I am reconnected but actually I am not connected to the internet. I can load my Cable Routers configuration page but pages beyond that in the outside world are accessible no longer...
To regain access I have to reboot.
The reason this is important for me is that I reckon if I could get this sorted then if I put the laptop to sleep it will will wake up and reconnect.
As it is using Linux sleep function is unworkable unless I don't mind losing internet.
I am determined to get this sorted eventually as I feel sure there must be a solution. My laptop isn't new but is a good workhorse.

I've been experiencing one issue in my opensuse 11.3 KDE, the thing is when leave my pc downloading a file, it disconnects after a period of time, I don't know when exactly. I connect to internet at boot time via DSL modem, when I was setting up my connection I noticed, that there is an option "idle-timeout" I set it to zero "0", I know that my pc donwloads all the time and speed do not drop, why then it disconnects?, it disconnects even with higher numbers of idle-timeout. It happened on the other laptop too, so I need every time to "rcnetwork restart" to get it back working
View 9 Replies View RelatedNew Toshiba laptop dual booting with Windows 7. I really like MM 10.10 and most things are working great! Periodically I will be web browsing and I lose connection. At first I thought it was Firefox but if I try to disconnect wireless and reconnect it will no longer connect unless I reboot. My network is hidden but Ubuntu finds it no problem on a fresh boot and connects per my settings and it is not a network problem since I can connect to Windows all day long and the rest of the family never has problems.
My wirless device is: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8191SEvB Wireless LAN Controller (rev 10)n and all OS updates are applied that I can find. I am thinking about un-hidding my network since years ago that used to be a problem with Redhat and even early Ubuntu but beyond that I cannot think of what else to try.
I'm thrilled using wicd to connect to wireless networks. But when I suspend my laptop using the special keys, I just want to disconnect from wireless without having to use any kind of GUI or curses user interface. It says in the documentation that wicd works by sending DBUS messages, so presumably it's possible to write a command that talks to the daemon directly.But I can't figure out how.Does anybody know by means of what shell command I can tell the wicd daemon to disconnect me from my wireless network?

At that point, it will never pick back up above that rate unless i disconnect and reconnect. Once the problem occurs once, its like to reoccur about every 5 to 10 minutes until the machine has rebooted.

Periodically, about 3 to 5 hours, Ubuntu disconnects from my wi-fi network and doesn't reconnect until I restart the router.This is an Ubuntu specific issue, since it doesn't happen when I boot into my Windows partition, and it doesn't happen to other computers on the network.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a cisco linksys wireless adapter (WUSB600n) which, most of the time, great when booting up. But mostly after some time (1min- 1hr.) it disconnects. When checking the status I can see some of the networks around me, including mine. But selecting it doesn't do anything. I searched the forums and tried:
sudo dhclient
and
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
But still no connection; the only thing that helps is rebooting.
I have my internet connection via a wireless USB adapter and that works fine. Recently I connected my pc (Ubuntu 9.10) through a wired switch to my modified xbox so I can watch my videos in my office. I can share my content with my xbox (except for the items on my external USB HD's - I am working on that and will post that question elsewhere) but when I have my PC's wired connection plugged into the switch I can not surf the web or check email. It gets stuck at resolving host and then times out. If I disconnect the pc from the switch it sometimes connects before it times out. Usually it is quicker if I reboot without the wired intranet connection.

If I disconnect the WAN I can download packages (apt-get), ping etc. If both nic cards are active I cannot do either. This behavior is the same whether or not iptables is enabled. BTW I am using the server version. I was only able to find examples that used a GUI, nothing from the command line.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSince I upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 my wireless connection is very unstable. I install the needed wireless drivers from 'Hardware Drivers' (Broadcom STA wireless driver) and I got wireless connection, but it randomly disconnect, and also connection is very slow.
I think that the problem are the drivers which are not very compatible with this version of Ubuntu, which means we need to wait for update? I have HP ProBook 4510s laptop, Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN network card & Gembird NSW-R2 router. I'm only having this problem on Ubuntu 10.04, on other OS's the internet is fine.

It is the linksys WUSB54g V4, im assuming it runs on the rt2500 chipset,when im connected and working it runs fine, however if i try to let a download run, it generally will disconnect and require me to unplug the device and plug it back in to get it working again, i cant just reconnect if i do that it simply wont connect, im connecting to a linksys router with the most recent firmware i think its the wrt54g v7, its setup using a wpa personal password and im connected through manual entry of my ip address due to port forwarding for some of my games, however the same issue persists even when im connected through an automatic configuration.
