Ubuntu Networking :: Ndisgtk Blocks Network Manager For 120 Seconds And Causes Stack Trace

Jun 19, 2010

I've troubles getting my new Sweex wireless 300N USB adapter to work. Tried searching in several directions (see closed thread). Further investigations shows however it is caused by the NDISGTK wrapper for Windows drivers. Can anyone tell me whether Sweex is shipping a faulty driver (it is the latest available) or it is a fault in ndisgtk? Or maybe I'm doing something stupid myself, which I do not find completely imagenary below some more detailed information on my findings: Started with network off and examined the networkstatus

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Disconnects Every Couple Of Seconds?

Jun 7, 2010

Basically upon logging network manager will connect to my network, and most of the time it will only last 20 seconds or so before it disconnects and tries to reconnects, this tends to go on for quite a while. Logging off and logging on over and over worked once, for this post I opened pages between the 15 seconds that i was connected and after 20 minutes it has remained connected (every time it stays connected for longer than 5 minutes it will never disconnect again) I followed the HOWTO thread so forgive me if most of this information is useless

1 ) Machine Brand and Model (Laptop): Asus 52jr is the model number

2 ) Wireless Brand, Model and Wireless Chipset:

Fedora Networking :: Network Manager Disconnects After 2-3 Seconds But It Works / Fix It?

Jul 3, 2009

I'm currently on F11, and experienced problems with Network Manager. Whenever I to connect to a network, wired or wireless, it just seems to try to connect, and then after 2-3 seconds, it just reports "Disconnected"..

Then I switched to network, and both wired and wireless works. so I don't think there is any driver or hardware issue...

Does anyone have any idea of this problem? The network manager have worked on the live CD version ( before installed to HD).

Fedora Installation :: Nvidia Driver Causes Stack Trace On Service Start

Apr 4, 2009

Just installed a Sparkle GeForce 8400 GS on my Dell Dimension 2350 running FC9. As stated, every time the system goes to start the card, a stack trace occurs. I know the first thing that everyone will ask for is the output from the stack trace, but for the life of me I can't capture it. Tried grabbing the STDOUT and SDTERR from the 'service start' command, but nothing interesting is ever there. If anyone knows if and where such things get stored, just letting me know that would help. I assumed there would be something in /var/log, but no. For some reason, there's a lot of python errors in the output. I imagine I could try to type in as much of the output as possible, but I'm hoping someone has seen this before.

Anyway, I've tried the Nvidia install executable, the nvidia-newest RPMs, the nvidia-96xx RPMs and they all fail the same way. I also can't get the card to come up as the primary device on boot, which I don't think should be a problem since they all boot into VGA mode, don't they? If I disable the internal video setup in the BIOS, the machine freezes on bootup with blinking lights on the keyboard, which I imagine is the BIOS's way of telling me there's no monitor available.

I also tried getting the nv and nouveau drivers going with no luck. They are installed on the machine, but I'm embarrassed to say I don't know how to get them configured. Not really a driver guy, I guess. Also, the reason I installed this card is to get TVOUT, and I don't know if generic drivers will have support for that sort of thing.

At this point, I'm just looking for a way forward. One thing I remember is that when I removed the 'fglrx' drivers (because they conflicted with the NVIDIA stuff) I remember that a few python/fglrx based packages went with it. I'm wondering if that could be at the root of the failure, given the python errors in the stack trace.

Networking :: Odd Network Stack Glitch Seen?

Dec 21, 2010

I just encountered an odd network stack glitch and wondered if anyone has seen this before, or knows what could cause it. When I connect to services on localhost (127.0.0.1) if there is a process listening, it works OK as expected. there is no process listening, I should get a NAK and see a connection refused message. With this glitch, that was not happening. And this was with 127.0.0.1 to 127.0.0.1. Nothing was listening, but the SYN attempts were all that were happening. If there was something listening that worked OK. Connections to other hosts worked as expected.

Fedora Networking :: 12 - Network Works Only For A Few Seconds (vmnet Conflict)?

Dec 7, 2009

I have a Fedora 12 box, which works absolutely fine in a fastweb wlan. However, if I connect to another wlan where I need to link to a wireless access point cabled to the ISP modem/router, networkmanager shows the connection is ok, but...

1) I only can browse internet (es:www.google.it) for a few seconds after the connection is established, thanfirefox goes "Impossible to reach the server"

2) the same behaviour is confirmed by ping

Code:

[Adriano@localhost ~]$ ping www.google.it
PING www.l.google.com (209.85.135.106) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from mu-in-f106.1e100.net (209.85.135.106): icmp_seq=1 ttl=49 time=138 ms
64 bytes from mu-in-f106.1e100.net (209.85.135.106): icmp_seq=2 ttl=49 time=127 ms

[code]....

EDIT: There is a win box in the same net that is working fine.I see in the router config that ARP for the working machine is "complete", while for the Fedora one is "incomplete" Nothing changes configuring a static or dynamic IP address for the Fedora box I had a previous Fedora 11 installation on the same machine that now gives troubles, and it worked fine. But I can't tell if it's a software problem because my ISP seems to have telnet-ed the router, changing it's firmware (and maybe it's config). Shame on they.

Ubuntu :: Using Drivers Via NDISWrapper/NDISgtk?

Jan 17, 2010

I'm dualbooting XP and Ubuntu. I've probably switched back and forth over 50 times today to download certain files to hopefully get this thing working. Problem: I use a Linksys Wireless-G Adapter to connect to my wireless router. The cord is too short to reach my PC. Different rooms. Ubuntu will not connect without the correct drivers. I have installed ndiswrapper and the ndisgtk.

Adapter Model No.: WUSB54GC
ver.: 3.0.02 / 3410-00450
I have successfully installed the following programs without internet:
1) Wine v. 1.1.36
2) ndiswrapper
3) ndisgtk

I have access to the specific driver on the installation CD for the adapter.Questions: 1)How do I use the NDISwrapper or ndisgtk to use the drivers from the CD? 2)Where do I move the drivers if I have to in order for ubuntu to use them?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Will Not Auto-connect To New Network After Resume?

Jul 1, 2010

I recently fixed an annoying problem and I thought it would be nice to share my solution here. The problem was that after a cycle of suspend/resume, Network Manager would only auto-connect to the same network as it was previously connected to. So, for example, if I suspended my laptop at home, and then I went to school and resumed it, it would try to connect to the home network, and then just give up. It would not connect to the school network unless I explicitly told it to.irst, I'll describe the fix. If you're having this problem, you can this. Copy the following:

Code:
#!/bin/sh

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Stopped Recognizing Wireless Network

Jan 24, 2011

I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...

Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.

P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network-manager And Wicd Can See But Not Connect To Network

Jul 10, 2010

I recently put Linux on a Thinkpad T40 I got. The wireless card works out of the box--I can see nearby networks. However, I can't connect to mine. network-manager would try (spin spin spin), fail, ask for the password, and then go back to the beginning and repeat indefinitely. This happened to me on a different computer, and on that one all I had to do was use wicd instead of network-manager. So I installed wicd, but it's not working either--it hangs at "Obtaining IP address".

I've found many, many threads with people who had the same problem, but none of their fixed worked for me.

I also tried to get wifi going manually, using this guide, but that didn't work.

Server :: Multiple Network Cards In LAMP Stack - How To Monitor

Nov 22, 2010

I'm wondering a couple of things about my LAMP stacks:

1) How do I get a list of all the network cards installed in a linux box? I've run this command and it shows 2 network cards which is probably all of them:
Code:
mii-tool -v

2) How can I check the percent utilization of a given network card? I.e., at any given time, what linux command will tell me the how much of a network card's bandwidth is being consumed? I've checked both ethtool and mii-tool and I don't really see any helpful stats.

3) How can I make sure that a linux box will optimally use both network cards? I'm a bit fuzzy on how IP addresses and network cards and hostnames work together.

OpenSUSE Network :: FTP Network Speed Using 11.4 Falls Down To 15 MiB/s After 30 Seconds At 90 MiB/s

Jun 8, 2011

I'm facing an odd problem with a fresh install of OpenSuse 11.4 on a Dell PE-2950, using NIC Broadcom BCM5708C (rev 12) NetXtream II. Driver's are up to date. I'd installed vsftpd and configure it. I can connect from anywhere in the network where I setup this Server. The odd problem is that when I'm sending a big file (5.5 GiB for example), from another PE-2950 server (Windows Server 2003 64 bits R2) with another BCM5708C nic, the speed of the transfer starts at 90 MiB/s approx. but after 30 seconds , it drops to 15 MiB/s and never raise again. Driver's are up to date too.

However, from another Server in the network, a Dell R710 with SLES 10 SP3, the transfer speed is at 90-100-110 MiB/s all the time. The switch is a HP Procurve 2910al-24G, with all ports at gigabit speed. I'd tried with different FTP clients in Windows: WinSCP and the Windows's ftp client, but the result is the same: speed falls down after 30 seconds approx. using the Windows-Box.
