Ubuntu Networking :: Logging Onto A WPA PEAP Wireless Network With/ Without CA Certificate

Oct 15, 2010

The collage I am going to has a secure wireless net work that we are suppose to be able to log into with a user name and password they give us. They have instructions on how to connect with windows and mac, but not for linux. There tech support has not been any help and I have tried quit a few different combinations but with no luck.

According to their instructions for windows their net work uses WPA-Enterprise for security type, and PEAP. They do not seem to use any root certification authorities, and they have you unchecked "validate server certificate".At [URL]there is some similar thing were you can see screen shots, but I cannot follow these because I do not know what "CA Certificate" to use. Is there a way to do it with out a "CA Certificate"?

OpenSUSE Network :: Connecting To A WP2 Enterprise Network With PEAP

Jan 21, 2011

Are there any limitations to connecting to a WPA2 Enterprise network with PEAP authentication on linux? Here at my university, on any major linux distro, I can only connect to the secure wifi 50% of the time and when I do successfully connect, it get booted off in a few minutes. At home I can connect to my WEP internet network easily.

Using Windows I can connect to my home WEP network and my university's WPA2 Enterprise network easily. Note: I work at the computing department here at my university, so I know that there is no anti-Linux mentaility which resticts access to Linux-based distros.)

OpenSUSE Wireless :: GTC For PEAP Authentication In WPA2?

Sep 20, 2010

So my university has two wireless servers that students can log into: VCU and VCU SafeNet. The regular VCU server works fine in most areas on campus but the library which I imagine I would be spending most of my time in between classes to do work and such. The connection quality for the unsecured server sucks ass there, and I do not use that term lightly. Other students have found success connecting in the library through the SafeNet server and the tech support man in the library was very nice in helping me setting up the security rules to connect to SafeNet in openSUSE.

However, I lack one little thing that would get me internet connection on crack at the library: GTC authentication for PEAP in WPA2. I did some research and found that GTC has not been implemented in the GUI of KNetworkManager even though it was implemented in NetworkManager. The guide that the tech support man printed out for me was for some earlier version of Ubuntu, so I know NetworkManager has had GTC support for a while now and KNetworkManager is still lacking this. I also found a patch for KNetworkManager, but have had no luck implementing it.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Logging Into A Nonbroadcasting Network

Feb 7, 2011

I'm a recent convert to SUSE (well, linux generally), been running it happily on my desktop for about eight months now. So when I learned about KDE plasma netbook I jumped at the opportunity to put it on my laptop too.I have an Acer Aspire One, with an Atheros AR5001 wifi card. I'm not having any luck with knetworkmanager so I did my config in YaST. I can't get on my home wireless network, and I think the problem has something to do with the fact that it doesn't broadcast SSID. Connection works when I set my router to broadcast - I can ping, browse the web, etc. I can't even ping it when it's not broadcasting.

I have checked, and the AR5001 is supported natively (so sayth the web).I'm not lacking any firmware, per the stickied checklist. I can even scan and find my neighbor's (broadcasting SSID) setup. Where do I go next?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Connection Logging

Nov 10, 2010

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to setup some form of network connection monitoring and logging? As Australia has CRAP broadband and ISP's utilize Peak & Off-Peak download limits I schedule downloads for my Off-Peak times. Well recently my connection drops out exactly when my off-peak time kicks in and requires my modem to be reset to re-establish my connection.

My ISP is denying they are doing this but I happens everyday now and is getting really frustrating. What I want to try and set up is some sort of monitoring to ping my ISP's default gateway so I can prove it drops at a specific time each day. I am sure there would be something I could configure in Ubuntu but I am a newbie to Ubuntu so don't really know how to achieve this.

Ubuntu Networking :: Get Wireless Network Adapter To Be Read By 'Windows Wireless Drivers'

Nov 24, 2010

I recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).

1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Stopped Recognizing Wireless Network

Jan 24, 2011

I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...

Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.

P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Home Network Is Not Recognized By Network Card (RealTek RTL8190 Mini PCI)

Jul 12, 2010

my wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. Internet conection works fine with ethernet but ubuntu does not see my wireless network. card (RealTek RTL 8190 ID: 10ec:8190). Have searched this forum but unable to come up with a fix. I was looking for windows XP drivers to use Ndiswrapper but could not find a list of .inf files. My network is OK and works perfectly in windows and with my 2 laptops. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Additional info: install was done within Windows using WUBI to a separate partition on my HDD. I am new to this and thouroughly confused as to the procedure for installing the drivers if they are in fact available."

I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.

The last two lines, okay, but I seem to need a certificate, and that MSCHAPv2, Anonimous identity. I don't understand what I need to enter in those fields. I only got a username and password from school and that's all I need for windows. So why does Ubuntu want/need more info?

Networking :: Cannot Connect To Internet At AirPort - Invalid Certificate

Aug 27, 2010

I'm at the AirPort. I can't connect with Linux but can connect with Windozzze. In Linux I get: You have received an invalid certificate. Please contact the server administrator or email correspondent and give them the following information: Your certificate contains the same serial number as another certificate issued by the certificate authority. Please get a new certificate containing a unique serial number (Error code: sec_error_reused_issuer_and_serial). The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

The airport requires that one look at a login message and agree to its terms before making any other connection: that's what I can't get and can't get further. Up-to-date Slackware, latest kernel (self-built), Atheros wireless chipset, eMachines e725-4250 laptop. I've connected here before, always in Linux.nl. Who's objecting? This is in Firefox the only browser with Javascript I have. What certificate are they talking about? I just downloaded Opera: it works. It detects the defective certificate and asks if I want to proceed. How do I get Firefox to do that? Should I move this message to a different forum?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connects But Can't See The Network

Jan 9, 2010

I've got a Zotac MAG HD-ND01 with XBMC live installed. This is built on Karmic Koala and runs very nicely through the wired NIC.

I configure the box using a cable. I'm using WPA2-PSK and it is clearly authenticating OK.. It gets an IP address.. the AP shows a connection to the box. My XP laptop connects to the access point OK.. just can't connect to the box via the wireless, and it can't see the network using wireless.

I have followed a number of threads on connecting Atheros 9XXX wireless [URL] but no joy.

Also, can Ubuntu connect to the AP at any speed greater than 54MB? My windows PC connects at 144MB+ . Will ndiswrappers connect at those sorts of speeds?
