The driver has got a .run extension and i don't know how to handle that, I've tried to extract like i did with .tar files but didn't work. I clicked the file while in X window and it opens a terminal and runs for a sec and said i have to exit X window and run as root. so i exit X window and login form CUI, navigate to the folder and type "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.08-pkg1.run" but nothing happens, so i add sudo and tried but All i get is "NVIDIA command not found". I guess this is not a problem but i just don't know how to handle the .run file. please help. I am using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx LTS. I' ve checked other threads and found some issues regarding Nvidia drivers but i wanna know how to handle the .run files.I've windows xp, 7, Puppy Linux and Lucid Lynx on my desktop and whenever i repair windows the GRUB got damaged. Is there a way to recover the loader without reinstalling the whole linux OS like getting into recovery console and fixboot,, fixmbr for restoring windows?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have problems getting a NJY touch screen (LINK) to work that I purchased a while back off ebay. Of course I let myself be fooled by the claims of the manufacturer that it works with openSUSE and did not realize that their drivers (DRIVERS) only go up 9.2 and only 32bit until it was already too late.
The first problem is that I cannot even get the .sh file to extract the driver without giving me errors and all attempts to manually extract the embedded tgz file have failed miserably. The technical support of the manufacturer is extremely limited regarding driver/installation; though they quickly respond to emails, all I got was "try the driver on our download page" - as well as answers along the line "64bit is way too advanced - nobody uses it anyway"
The panel and the controller themselves work, I could get them to work on a WinXP test box. I was hoping that given the multitude of similar panels out there there might be another way of getting it to work...
When I plug it in, dmesg reports:

extract that driver from the file on the manufacturer's website? If that works, is there any way to use a 32bit driver in a 64b system? Or do you think it's possible to use any of the other manufacturers' drivers by adjusting some parameters - they look pretty identical and should not differ too much?
From what I gather the lsusb output is quite similar if not identical what other people get with other controllers.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 and just tried to install VLC. I download the .zip file and once it loaded, I tried to extract it. The following error came up:

I noticed that the folder name where the 'extensions' folder is present is different for different users. And just copying to that folder does not work. code...

I recovered some 60,000 files with PhotoRec and need a script to sort them into individual folders based on extension. I was able to do this once before but cannot find the script again (sad thing is that I probably saved it on another HD that I'm having partition issues with, but that's another story....).I found this script:

While it does work, I am not looking forward to going through all 132 folders and typing in each extension. The last time I did it, the folder was automatically created based on the extension(s) found.

I have no problem viewing them and Ubuntu still knows which is which (if i view their properties it will state File Type: JPEG or PNG) but unfortunately Ubuntu Tweak does not allow you to chose them without the extension (I am trying to change my login background using this) So what i need is something that can scan several files, determine the file type, and add an appropriate extension to it. I have found several to do so for music files but none for images. I am using Ubuntu 11.04 at the moment.

im trying to reconstruct / extract a file that was too large to fit onto a floppy, used 7zip to create and split the file into multiple parts in tar.bzip format. this was done in windows. Then moved all the parts of the file to tiny linux on a really old laptop. no cd drive, no usb or network. so have to rely on floppy drive. i do know that reconstruction while extracting using commands is possible. but not working.tried tar -xMf file.tar.001 but nothing.

I have rename on my server which I used to remove underscores from file names, but I dont know how I would use it to rename everything up to the first period. Bonus points for renaming stuff to the name of the parent folder!
This should be easy but despite all the hints and tricks I've read, I cannot make this work. I have 130+ files with the names filename.avi.001, filename.avi.002, filename.avi.003 all the way up to filname.avi.132. How do I join them? A simple cat command does not work, neither does avimerge or any other utility I can find. I'm guessing because the file extension is a number and not .avi. Is there and easy way to rename them all and then join them? I can't be the only one with this issue but I've scoured the forums and found nothing.
