Ubuntu Multimedia :: Join Ulitple .avi Files With A Numbered Extension?

This should be easy but despite all the hints and tricks I've read, I cannot make this work. I have 130+ files with the names filename.avi.001, filename.avi.002, filename.avi.003 all the way up to filname.avi.132. How do I join them? A simple cat command does not work, neither does avimerge or any other utility I can find. I'm guessing because the file extension is a number and not .avi. Is there and easy way to rename them all and then join them? I can't be the only one with this issue but I've scoured the forums and found nothing.
How to use ffmpeg or memcoder to join two .ogv files into a single .ogv ??Let's suppose the first .ogv video file is named as "01.ogv" and the resolution is 800*600;the second .ogv video file is named as "02.ogv" and the resolution is 720*576.I'd love to join two video files into a whole one, with the resolution 320*240.
I have some files, named E000.svg, E001.svg, E002.svg, ... E07D.svg, E07E.svg, E07F.svg . When I open them in Nautilus, and choose the option Sort Alphabetically, they are sorted:
E000.svg E00A.svg E00B.svg E00C.svg E00D.svg E00E.svg E00F.svg E001.svg E01A.svg E01B.svg and so on.
This is totally useless for me, so I searched for a solution in Google, and found lots of bug reports. It looks like it's a 'feature' for sorting 10 after 9; but clearly they have forgot that many people don't like or don't need that option. Thinking it was a Nautilus thing, I installed Thunar, but it has the exact useless algorithm. And then I installed PCManFM, but it's also the same. If I can install a file manager that correctly sorts my files? Or will I need to switch to Windows to have it fixed? (not joking here, Windows Explorer doesn't suffer from this feature).
I got around 6,000 songs that I copied from my ipod to my external hard drive through rhythmbox, but for some reason it didn't copy over any extensions (all of my music files are mp3's) so I was wondering what would be a really simple way to add the extension to all the files in the music folder. My folders are setup like /Music/Artist/Album/song.mp3 (well right now there is no .mp3 but ya get the point
I've got a collection of comics on my computer which consist of single images in .jpg. I am trying to join them all to a big .pdf, so that I end up with one e-book per comic instead of a bunch of single images. I already tried importing it to Open Office, but that way I will have to rescale every single image to fit a page, which would take ages.

I want to use the command line join utility on two files. Unfortunately, they're gzipped. Because they're both gzipped, I can't use gzip -cd. Is there a slick way to do this without having to unzip them?
Searching Google on how to join/merge many mp3 files, it suggests that I should just cat them together.That might "work", but clearly it is not the correct way to do it, as each header and set of IDv3 tags will also be concatenated.Does a Linux program exist that can be scripted to join/merge many mp3?Can mplayer/mencoder/ffmpeg do it?

==> so the joined file must be sorted on the first number. Any ideas how this can be achieved ?
How do you join multiple MP3 files into one? "cat" and "mp3wrap" are no good as they produce non standard MP3 files. I know I can use audacity, but when you have 1000's of MP3 files to join into one, it takes too long.

I have a bunch of files that contain a date, then data. When I use join, I get exactly the output I need. But manually joining the first with the second, then that output with the third and so on would take days. I have thousands of files. Can any of you folks help me write a script that would do this?To put it another way, for clarity's sake, here is what I am currently doing
If I were to repeat that 3000 times the final output would be what I need. I know a simple script would do this for me, but I can't figure out how to write it.
I have some flash(.swf) movies that I created and I would like to create one longer file with these files. I thought that avidemux could handle flash videos, but I get this error if I try to open it: "Could not open the file". Is there any other way to join 2 flash videos? I have noticed that I cant even play the files on vlc.

i am using ubuntu 8.04 and am trying to install a file with a .bin extension so opened the terminal and typed ($ chmod +x typingmastermac.bin )then the computer gave me this (bash: $: command not found). so i am not aware what to do next though most articles i have read about the topic tell me that that is supposed to be the first step in installing a file with a .bin extension. better way to install the typingmastermac.bin file.

I basically want to transfer firefox settings from one machine to another (or from one user to another) which includes some extensions. Instead of running the browser and installing the extension manually, I just want to copy and paste the relevant files.
I noticed that the folder name where the 'extensions' folder is present is different for different users. And just copying to that folder does not work. code...

I recovered some 60,000 files with PhotoRec and need a script to sort them into individual folders based on extension. I was able to do this once before but cannot find the script again (sad thing is that I probably saved it on another HD that I'm having partition issues with, but that's another story....).I found this script:

While it does work, I am not looking forward to going through all 132 folders and typing in each extension. The last time I did it, the folder was automatically created based on the extension(s) found.
