Basically when I login back from a suspend or after I boot the pc, the wifi takes 30seconds to a minute before it starts to connect. This makes it very annoying to have to wait for no reason.
Basically the issue is caused by the wifi not having a script to search for a network after a suspend.

I was happily running Ubuntu 9 but since I cannot get security updates for it anymore I had to upgrade to 11. Now I'm on Natty, and the "NetworkManager" apparently cannot deal with my latop's wifi card which worked fine for years under ubuntu 9. The laptop is a Dell latitude D610 and the card is an intel ipw2200 minipci. I used to just run /etc/init.d/network restart after I logged in to get the wireless to come up, if it failed by itself, but now I get a message that that's deprecated. Nice.
I'm running WPA. If I don't create a wireless configuration in the network manager, wireless never connects. Ever. If I do create a configuration, the connection comes up for about a minute, and then drops. And then comes up. And then drops. And then comes up. And then drops. It's insane. Also, I get a series of "Auto <ssid>" entries in the NM settings area.I dug around in /var/log, but all of the wpa_supplicant logs are of size 0, except the gzipped backups, which are all size 20. Go gzip. The syslog has some messages in it about 4-way handshake failed, and association taking too long, but since the laptop has no network connection I don't have an easy way to post those here.I just want the wireless to come up, by itself, when I turn on the laptop like it used to. I don't want to have to deal with retyping the (long and complicated) WPA password every time I wake up the machine, nor deal with the "keychain." How do I get there?
Just started to encounter this problem recently: after entering a valid password for a given user during an SSH login, it takes at least one minute to get to a prompt. It usually takes only a second to check the password and drop me to a prompt.
I haven't had this problem before - it seems to have started this week. Only thing I've done this week is run updates. Has anyone encountered this problem recently? Any ideas or fixes that may help solve this? Server info: not exposed to the Internet, only running SSH, fully patched version of CentOS 5.5 x86_64.
I just installed linux mint a couple of days ago and everything went great but now the grub screen takes about 20 seconds to a minute to load. It's not a huge issue but kind of annoying since the one that ubuntu installed took a second and I was at the menu. I imagine that it has to do with the background picture but i'm not sure if that would slow it down that much.

Maybe a little reassurance that Ubuntu isn't broken for my Wifi is all I need.

This has been raised as redhat bugzilla bug 583054 - seeI am posting here in case anyone else has dealt with a similar problem. In brief, I have a print server running Fedora 12/CUPS dual boot WinXP. The attached printer is a Canon BJC-4100. When the server is booted in F12, it takes over a minute for a networked Fedora 12 box to bring up a print dialog, or for the printer to start after a page has been submitted. When the print server is booted in WinXP, printing is immediate.

When I boot up my desktop, lilo spends more than a minute printing a string of dots to the screen, before it declares "Bios data check successful" and then loads slackware normally.

I've just installed a fresh copy of 11.4 and the updates are driving me crazy. My internet connection is up, but the download stops and goes, and when I try using firefox, it takes a minute to even start to load any page. I have the system monitor up and it is telling me that the network is not receiving anything except for these bursts of data aprox. every 30 seconds.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter I resume from hibernate with my cpu frequency manually set to the highest settings (2ghz) the network manager shows not wifi APs. "wlan0" shows under both ifconfig and iwconfig but "iwlist wlan0 scan" says no results. "sudo iwlist wlan0 scan" also says no results. I've tried rmmod then modprobe with no luck. Rebooting is the only way I can get WiFi working.
I can get wifi working again by:
- rebooting
- changing the cpu scaling to a lower setting then hibernate/resume
- changing the cpu scaling to a lower setting then 'sudo rmmod ath9k; sudo modprobe ath9k;'
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 with Atheros ar5008 (AR5BXB72) using ath9k drives

I use openSuse 11.xx and all was going fine until yesterday. When booting up now, I can't connect to the internet any more. I takes much longer to boot now as if openSuse tries to look for something that disappeared or got corrupt. All started with the latest safety update.

I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Although it has worked fine for the past couple of weeks, I have recently encountered a problem with my wireless card. It is an Atheros AR928X card on a Toshiba satellite U405D-S2874 model laptop. Recently, I attempted to put the computer into suspend mode for the first time. The computer failed to wake up, and I performed a hard reboot. After this, everything seems to work except for the wireless card. I am now unable to connect to any wireless network with my laptop, and the wireless manager doesn't seem to be working either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter fixing an issue with sleep mode, my WiFi is automatically disabled on my Ubuntu installation on boot while the switch is on. For some reason, it seems that Ubuntu has an issue communicating with my BIOS. As a fix to this problem: I disabled the C4 sleep state. My Ubuntu installation now boots up fine but the LED on the WiFi indicator glows orange, indicating that it's off; while in Windows it glows blue, indicating that it's on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the function "Connect to server" / ssh and leave the "folder" field empty and log in, I am taken to the file system root level (/) on the remote system..!! Is this behaviour really the intention? I am really surprised, I would expect to automatically end up in my own home folder on the remote server.
Is there any way to avoid this, except entering "/home/myname" in the folder field? I tried $HOME, ~/, ~, but I got error messages on all.
It is not always obvious where your own home folder is in the remote file system, it might not even be a unix.
I should mention that when I do a command line sftp connection (sftp name@host) to the same server it works as I would expect. So this sftp GUI must do it differently?
I'm having issues with my broadcom BCM4313 wireless adapter. Everything works just fine when connected (with additional drivers & Connman), but it takes about 5 minutes to connect to my network when i just started my computer! When resuming from hibernation it goes very quick though, so just when I boot my pc it's taking forever...This is what I found in the dmesg output:

I currently have a Nexxt Lynx 150 Wireless USB adapter attatched to one of my home destops to recieve my wifi signal, however, i have run into a speed bump in terms of getting it connected to my ubuntu 11.04. This adapter works perfectly in windows and on the ubuntu live cd, but, when i install ubuntu to my hard drive and try to connect to my network,

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been having trouble with Ubuntu 11.04 when connecting to the Internet via Wireless Networking. It will connect, and has good speed once it connects, however it takes upward of 10 minutes and over 20 times of me clicking 'Connect'.
Is there a way to connect to a wireless network quicker? My network is unsecured and without a keyring. It is not only slow connecting to my network, but the network of other's.

i just installed ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix on my acer aspireone ao532h netbook, and so far, it's been working beautifully. much better than the windows 7 starter edition that came with the machine. the only problem i've experienced so far had to do with the wireless connection. initially, the connection would drop during certain types of activities (e.g. downloading updates or programs, or even streaming videos videos) and the network manager would freeze so completely that i'd have to hard reboot. that seems to have been fixed by installing wicd (following a suggestion here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1135723&page=2), meaning that it hasn't disconnected in the several hours since i've been using it. however, wicd has a different problem: it disconnects after a suspend / resume cycle. this requires a reboot to fix also, as not only does it disconnect, but it looses awareness of the network altogether. obviously, this could be a real headache on a netbook that gets closed and opened frequently.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with a rather peculiar timeout during resume from suspension and I was wondering if any of you have encountered the error or might have some leads as to what causes the problem.I am using Gentoo Linux with TuxOnIce patched kernel. While both hibernation and suspension works as advertised, there is a rather irritating timeout while trying to resume from suspension. Each and every time it takes about 60s for notebook to resume back to X session again, no matter what the conditions are (i.e. USB deviced plugged in, etc.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving played around with ubuntu a fair bit I decided to breathe life into an old thinkpad with a pcmcia wireless card, by following the minimal install instructions and using lxde window manager etc.. Everything works fine apart from the fact that I cannot connect wirelessly. The card picks up and lists connections but whenever I have clicked on a connection the dail spins and then it gives up.I installed network-manager and managed to get nm-applet appearing in the sysTray otherwise I would not even have known there was wireless connections there.
I was thinking there maybe some conflict with another network manager, does this sound likely?
I'm having an issue recently with Ubuntu 10.04 x64. Connecting to my wifi is not working. I believe it is some kind of issue with the router. On Windows 7 the only way that I could connect to the net was by copying the network profile to a usb flashdrive from another computer and loading it mine. The wireless signal just keeps attempting to connect.

I've recently swapped wireless routers but all my other machines have been able to connect to the new router. I can see the SSID and the signal strength is high but when I try to connect to it, it just attempts for a long time then asks me for my password again. I am currently connected to wired network.

I installed Ubuntu 11.04 yesterday and my wireless didn't work so I searched a little and found a way to make it work; Uninstalled bcmwl-kernel-source and installed firmware-b43-lpphy-installer and b43-fwcutter. And it worked. But today I accidentally pressed the "turn off wireless" button on my laptop. I obviously pressed it again and thought it would work but it doesn't. Now I find networks and stuff but I can't connect to them. It tries for awhile and then asks me to enter the password which I do (it is correct) and then it tries to connect for a few minutes again and then it asks me for the password again.
