Ubuntu Networking :: WIFI File Sharing With Android Tablet?

I coach a high school debate team. I would like to take my team paperless... Within the world of debate, any evidence you read is required to be made available for your opponent. Many teams use a third laptop as a viewing laptops. They will make a computer to computer network and make a dropbox on the desktop of the 'viewing' computer.
To save money I would like to be able to use some of these cheap bargain basement netbooks/tablets that are coming out as solely a viewing computer. Most of these cheap machines are running android.So....is it possible to network with an android to share files over wifi?Internet is not an option as it is either banned for use in the round or not available...usually both....
I know this isn't directly related to Ubuntu (even if the rest of my network is pure Ubuntu!), but I haven't had any luck uncovering this info through the usual channels. Does anyone know which port Android 2.2 on a VIA wm8650 uses to access the Internet? My Wifi is routed through a Linux firewall (Ipcop) which forces normal outbound Internet traffic via normal ports (80, 8080 etc) through the ipcop proxy, but the wm8650 somehow bypasses the proxy. I don't know whether I'm just missing the port the tablet is actually using.
I have Ubuntu 10.04 running on my laptop. IBM R51 Been running for some time fine.I bought an android Acer Iconia A500 tablet. It has a usb port and I can plug it into my windows machine fine and see the drive etc.I plug it into my Ubuntu system and nothing mounts. I have tried several searches in google but what they say to do does not work.Is there any plans to fix this soon? I hate to boot windows to load files to my Acer.
Got a B&N color nook and put Android on it (had honeycomb, was OK, but now using CM7 and it is *much* better).Anyway, any essential apps that I should install on my Ubuntu desktops to go together with my 'droid tablet?
I'm using an Ubuntu desktop box as a home server and I want to be able to stream videos across the network to my Android devices wirelessly, however a plain UPNP server will not do, I also want to be able to password protect the streaming server so that only I will be able to view the videos without anyone else in the network being able to see my personal video library, is there any way I can do something like that?The devices in question are a Google Nexus One running Android 2.3.3 and a Motorola Xoom running Android 3.0.1.
I have a Huawei IDEOS S7 android tablet running 2.1.My USB port has died, so I need to delete a partition I put on the internal memory area, then resize the remaining partition back to the full amount. It looks like I should be able to use terminal emulator to do that, but I don't know any of the commands.
I often connects my laptop (Asus EEE) to my HTC desire hd with the wifi hotspot. But this doesn't work since yesterday when I upgraded to 11.04. When I connect the laptop to the phone the screen on the laptop goes black with a lot of scrolling text then it freezes.
This worked out of the box without any problems with 10.10.
I've been reading around, but not had much success at all in trying to share the internet connection from my laptop to my phone.all the articles i read refer to earlier versions of Ubuntu and the packages they mention have become obsolete, according to the apt-get tool.im not that new to Linux, but my networking probably isn't up to scratch.if anyone could help me, that would be great, im using Ubuntu 10.04 at the time of writing.
I'm trying to set up a wireless AP with Internet sharing. I currently have the AP setup with hostapd and a dhcp server. The clients can connect but there is not Internet sharing. Now my situation is somewhat uniqe in that my internet connection is my teathered android cell phone. The tether app is azilink and i use openvpn to create a virtual networking interface(tun0).
The place I will be staying at (Japanese Guesthouse) only offers internet through cable. What I'd like to do is be able to connect my other devices through wifi (Cellphone for example) to the Ubuntu machine connected through this ethernet cable in order to access the internet.I've searched for a good hour but I'm getting extremely confused about the gateways, bridges or whatever else people suggest. Most of what I've been able to find actually only covers getting internet through wifi and then sharing it through lan (I'm trying to achieve the opposite).
So if anyone could point me in the right direction, or at least tell me what terms I should be using for my searches, it would greatly help.Some computer info might be useful. I'm using a Dell XPS M1210, the network adapter is an Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG and I'm running Ubuntu Desktop Edition 10.10.
I have BSNL EVDO usb modem and I use wvdial to connect to internet in my Ubuntu 10.04.I want to share my internet over wifi so I can use this on my wifi phones. I searched all over and actually ended up here.
I have got a wireless network in my house with a router as the hub and my Linux Laptop and Macbook connecting to it. I have got a wireless Kodak printer which the Macbook uses, but they do not have any drivers for Linux. I have enabled ssh for both the laptops and have enabled "Print sharing" on the Macbook. Can I access the printer from the Linux laptop via the Macbook? When I have sshed to the macbook, the kodak printer comes up in the list of printers to choose from...but the printing job just goes to the queue, but does not actually complete. Is this because I have not got the drivers for the linux laptop?
I have been using windows 7 for awhile now, and i was using connectify (an internet connection sharing program that turns your laptop into a wireless router), and i'm planning on completely switching to Linux from a dual boot, and i was wandering if there is a way to share an internet connection (mainly to my PS3) on Ubuntu 10.04 x64, and wirelessly if possible, though i wouldn't mind if it was through Ethernet.
Im living in a student-city where we get one internet-cable in the wall each, if we need more we are told to use a switch. But, since ive got some tech that depends on wifi, I was wondering if its possible to setup my ubuntu to work like a sort of wifi-switch?
Basically, Im not allowed to set up anything that resembles a router..(so no dhcp) all i need is what a switch would do, only wireless and wpa/wep would be very nice
Atm ive got my cabled network plugged into my onboard ethernet-port, and ive got a d-link DWA-556 (Atheros AR5008 I think) wifi card that i wanted to use to share my connection. is this doable?
I was connected to internet by wired connection in my home. I was able to share my Internet connection to other computer by proxy using squid. My question is, Can I share my internet connection to mobile device by WiFi? I'm using ubuntu 9.10 in my laptop.
I have two computers: - one is my desktop, running ubuntu. it has two NIC's one is wired (eth0), the other is wireless (wlan0). - the other is my laptop, running archlinux. two NIC's as well (eth & wlan).
I would like to connect my desktop to my router via eth0 and connect my laptop to my desktop via wlan0, providing internet access to my laptop. i would like both computers to be able to use the internet simultaneously (not all packets would be forwarded).
Any manner of doing this would be ok, but if this is a simple enough task to do it by simply configuring some files (e.g. /etc files) rather than installing some unnecessarily big application, then that would be wonderful!
Also, not really as high a priority but if possible, i would like this to perhaps not be limited to my laptop. connecting any device (a psp or pda for example) to the internet this way (making it a hotspot in a sense) would be super! encrypting the connection (WEP for instance) would be ultra-mega!

I've got a Suse 11.2 laptop with a bluetooth Wifi device (recognised and working), and an Android 2.1 smartphone (Motorola Milestone). I would like to connect the two via Wifi. I don't have a Wifi router, I've just used it now and again through hotspots. I normally connect to the internet via a mobile broadband USB dongle.So, I suppose I need to configure my laptop as a Wifi router in order to set up our little private LAN between the two devices. Is that right? If yes, can someone please point me to a relevant howto because I've searched high and low and didn't find anything. :-(If the above is not right, then where should I look, please? Is it possible at all, actually?
tried android usb internet tethering from your android with an usb cable to your laptop. zero configuration, the connection is detected as Enternet Usb and there you go Working 100%, quite simple
I m on ubuntu 10.04 and have a Trust tb 4200 tablet.. and having problems with my trust tablet runing on ubuntu.. i pluged in the tablet and to my amaze it started working right away until i pressed the pen on the tablet.. i cant seem to move the mouse curser anymore unless i touch the pen on the tablet. (wich acts as a click) so i thought that i may be missing the drivers.. i checked thes forum and there was a post to install the aptek drivers which i did (but still worked the same) and i found out thet there was no 10-aiptek.fdi (in "/etc/hal/fdi/policy/") so i created one and copied one from a post.. in [url]...3&postcount=50 but still cant move the courser without touching.. its like if it did no diference at all.. i also changed the values in the 10-aiptek.fdi with no changes.. the size of the tablet is just the size of the screen so i am using the full tablet.. and no buttons work...
I think the drivers are not workin.. in the synaptic it shows as intalled...
I just installed 9.10 and I tried to share specific folders by right clicking and selecting share. Not a problem.
However when I goto a Windows machine I see the share but cannot connect, says incorrect login/ password. I used the same login/ pass for the linux box and I created a new user and I still get the same results. What am I doing wrong?
I want to use the GUI for this please. When I edit the smb.conf I don't see the share.
I have two desktop computers on the same home network and I am unable to share files between the two. Both have access to the network. One is able to file and printer share using SAMBA and a windows 7 laptop. The other machine is unable to either do file sharing via Samba or SSL file sharing between the two Ubuntu machines.
I have tried to set up file sharing using ssh, samba with no luck. I now have it set up using NFS the only thing is it is just one way and I need it both ways. I was wondering if I installed the same packages on the other pc if I could make this work both ways.
The command I used on the first pc was: sudo apt-get install nfs-kernel-server nfs-common portmap And on the other pc the command was: sudo apt-get install nfs-common portmap Or is there a better way?
How would I set up a LAN network at home between my computer that has Linux and someone else's computer that has Windows? and how would we share files and folders? It's easy if we both are using windows, so now I'm trying to figure this out in ubuntu.
I have a small home/office network, which currently consists of a very old mac running osx10.4, a windoze 7 laptop and an ubuntu 10.04/windoze vista laptop, along with a homebrew setup on a wii which understands smb. I'm in the process of setting up an additional ubuntu PC which will, among other things act as a file and web server, mainly for web development and for sharing files, music and videos.
Up until now I've just run everything on SMB, and I will have to set samba up on the new server, but I would prefer to use a different protocol for the ubuntu and mac systems, as SMB doesn't recognise/create file permissions properly and it takes a while sometimes to notice new files in folders it's recently looked in.
I have encountered many problems in Ubuntu, many of which I have been able to figure out how to fix myself (except a few tricky ones). Found a new one recently that I just cannot figure out. I have set up file sharing on my network between two systems running Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), one a desktop and the other a laptop. I Installed the proper packages on both systems, and it seemed to be working properly. However, on the laptop, when I try to mount or access the public-files of the desktop or laptop I receive the following error:

I have 4 computers/users and we need to put all the files on a central server. The server is running Ubuntu 10.04. What is the best way for these 4 XP users to see the files that will be stored on the server?
Or basically, how will I either share or map the files *from* Ubuntu *to* XP? Also, the users will be reading, writing, creating and deleting files on the server.
Upgraded to 11.04 and my graphical tablet is recognized no longer Any idea how can I set it up? Wizardpen is not working, the ppa on my repository says something about "Natty" instead of "Maverick" (As than before)
