I am sitting behind http proxy, and cant remove flash plugin. I go to system -> manage apps and remove. From there I get only loops: [URL] while I've set up all proxy settings in system - configure proxy.

I see wget takes the domain and resolves it's IP and then downloads (atleast thats how I get it?), and then I get "connection refused". Is it possible to force it use the domain and not the IP?

Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.
without proxy's like Ultrasurf and Freegate you can't browse them; So when i was running on Microsoft Windows, i was using Ulrasurf or Freegate to browse these web pages; but in Ubuntu i can't run .exe programs.. How to find a good proxy program to browse these web pages or if some plug-in is exist in Firefox to browse these pages, How to download it and teach me how to use it.

Among them, some drivers for HP Printers (I don't know why this cropped up; I don't even use printers on my laptop), and gcj updates (I use gcc/g++ but not gcj). I unchecked them the first time I saw them on my UM list. However, for every subsequent batch of new updates, UM retains these updates and I need to uncheck them every time. How can I remove them totally from my UM list?

It's been a few hours since the Adobe Flash plugin on my Firefox is behaving in a strange way: some of the clickable dialogs do not work anymore. I click on them but nothing happens.
For example: in chatroulette, the dialog that asks for the permission to use the webcam can't be clicked:

When I open Yast's software management in opensuse 11.4, there's like 400mb of changes it basically forces me to install. For instance, flash player, libre office stuff, gstreamer etc.
I remove these from the download list, but when I go install something like the nvidia driver I need, it still downloads and installs all that other stuff first, whether I remove it from the list or not. It still makes me agree to the flash player terms or it won't install anything.
How can I get all these recommended updates off of there and just install what I want to individually?
I've just installed OpenSuse 11.2 64-bit and, on the whole, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm connected to the network and I am posting this from my new system. However I cannot get any software updates or install new packages
I'm behind a (non-authenticated) proxy and, obviously, Firefox has no problem.
If I use Online Updater I just get error messages like this:
PackageKit Error repo-not-available: Failed to download ./repodata/primary.xml.gz from Index of /update/11.2
(but the site is available in Firefox).
I have tried manual updates through Yast (after setting the proxy) and get pretty much the same thing.
So far I have set the proxy in:
Firefox
/etc/sysconfig/proxy
/etc/PackageKit/PackageKit.conf
Computer -> Yast -> Network Services -> Proxy (That has a test function which confirms it is working).
Applications -> System Settings -> Network Settings (This tells me that the network settings are controlled by NetworkManager and can't be modified by Yast).

I have been trying all day but so far I am unable to configure yum to use a proxy server to retrieve updates.Due a recent compliance mandate direct internet access had to be removed for a pool of our Cent/RHEL servers. I have added the http_proxy environment variable in /etc/profile using:
export http_proxy=http://ourproxy:8080
export ftp_proxy=http://ourproxy:8080
export gopher_proxy=http://ourproxy:8080
I am using the FQDN of the proxy server, and i can ping that FQDN from the CLI without a problem. When I do this and I reboot the server I can get to the internet through the proxy using links/lynx. Yum however stalls out after loading plugins. I have read in a few places that I need a trailing / after the port number above, adding this and rebooting has no effect.
So I tried specifying the yum.conf file... [URL]. When I do this yum still tries to contact the redhat/cent network directly. No behavior change. If I use tcpdump I can see the server I am running yum on try to directly connect without the proxy, which times out for good reason.
The proxy server I am running is squid, but I can see the server I am running yum on blatantly ignore any proxy settings I have tried so far. I am really in a hole on this one as I have to get several updates to fix vulnerabilities found during our last scan.
I just installed firefox and flash-plugin.The version of firefox is 3.0.10, package is firefox-3.0.10-1.el5.centos.The version of flash-plugin is 10.0.22.87, package is flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-1.el5.rf.But firefox crashes when there is flash in web page, unless disable flash plugin in firefox.

Is removing previous older kernels "vmlinuz", when updates do get a newer version an easy task, or do the more recent Linux like Ubuntu 9.10 do that automatically, and only keep a few older previous kernels ?

I removed the one I had because of some security alert. But lots of sites don't work with the 32 bit one with the wrapper so I'd like it back.

It seems to be insisting on trying to connect via port 80 despite the fact that my proxy settings are set to 8080. I have a flash drive that I used on my old netbook to temporally hold a copy of ubuntu as the netbooks internal drive was dead. I have since got a new netbook and wanted to return the flash drive to simple removable storage. I've re-partitioned it back to 14gb fat32 2gb ext2 and everything is working fine. Except that if I try to boot with the key inserted grub loads then errors imminently (sort of obvious if grub is still in the MBR but there is no menu.lst file anymore...) Googling for removal of GRUB just gives me loads of hits for how to restore windows mbrs when you dont want to keep linux anymore. None of these methods seem to have any targeting. I need to remove grub from sdb while keeping it intact in sda. sdb shouldn't even be bootable, so that when boot from usb is higher in the bios than boot from hdd the usb key is ignored and the hdd is booted as normal.
