Ubuntu Networking :: RT3090 Wirelss Driver Not In Use On Boot Up?

Jan 26, 2010

I have an MSI600 laptop with the Ralink RT3090 wireless chipset in it. Ubuntu 9.10 would not recognise this in the base install. I tried the NDISWrapper approach which seemed to yield no results so have since downloaded and installed Markus Herberling's driver from https://launchpad.net/~markus-tisoft/+archive/rt3090Thisorks but only if I first Deactivate the driver and then activate it again in the hardware drivers gui

Ubuntu Networking :: Blinking/Flashing LED When 10.10 Uses RT2800 Instead Of RT3090?

Jan 8, 2011

Just posting this so others can find the solution more easily than I did.My HP ProBook 4520s had a blinking/flashing wireless indicator LED and the connection was unstable. The solution was to blacklist the rt2800pci drivers. This leaves the rt2860sta drivers, which work fine for me (so far). The device is actually a RaLink RT3090 and apparently they release drivers on their web site, but I did not want to go through the trouble of building it and did not find it packaged for 10.10.To try this fix, open up the blacklist file.

Code:
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
And add this line at the end...

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Router (10.04;EeePC 1001HA;RT3090)?

Jun 11, 2010

I just install Ubuntu 10.04 on my EeePC and I'm loving it. the only problem is I can only get wired internet. I was going around the help but I couldn't find my problem. others also have had the same problem as me. here's all the information I think you'll need:

OS: Ubuntu Desktop 10.04
Model: EeePC 1001HA
Wireless Card: RT3090
Lshw Output:
*-network DISABLED

[Code]...

NOTE: I cut out alot of the outputs because the didn't appear useful (like my USB devices etc.)

NOTE2:any commands you want me to run just let me know (BTW I wont run stuff like mkfs... I'm not that new)

NOTE3:Ubuntu Desktop works quite well on a EeePC actually. EDIT: vBulletin wont let me have multiple spaces! I'll replace them with dashed in the lsmod output.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wirelss Stops Working Periodically In 10.10?

Oct 15, 2010

New Toshiba laptop dual booting with Windows 7. I really like MM 10.10 and most things are working great! Periodically I will be web browsing and I lose connection. At first I thought it was Firefox but if I try to disconnect wireless and reconnect it will no longer connect unless I reboot. My network is hidden but Ubuntu finds it no problem on a fresh boot and connects per my settings and it is not a network problem since I can connect to Windows all day long and the rest of the family never has problems.

My wirless device is: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8191SEvB Wireless LAN Controller (rev 10)n and all OS updates are applied that I can find. I am thinking about un-hidding my network since years ago that used to be a problem with Redhat and even early Ubuntu but beyond that I cannot think of what else to try.

Ubuntu Networking :: Upgrade 8.04 - 10.04 Kills Wirelss - Compaq 610

Dec 8, 2010

I upgraded today from 8.04 to 10.04 using the update manager. I'd never done it this way before, always just reinstalled, but everything worked fantastically, except for this anomoly.

Wireless was working faultlessly in 8.04. After the upgrade, cable works fine and lspci gives me this:

Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)

So the system can still see the card. But have a look at this:

So, using Network Manager (wicd no diff), running exactly the static IPs I had before but nothing. Doesn't see any access points, not just mine.

Ubuntu Networking :: Make A Wirelss Hot Spot At Our Small Hotel In Italy?

Nov 23, 2010

I need to make a wirelss Hot Spot at our small hotel in Italy. I am already doing it, however I have no way of logging my customers. As per the new laws here in Italy, I must secure my wi-fi and keep a log/database of all that enter. I have found some units that will cost me about a 1000euro to purchase, but I am providing this to my customers for free, so if I can do this by using one of my extra/old computers running linux, that would be ideal.

I did a general search for these terms: "wireless access point hot spot firewall" but there were zero results, which I thought was strange.

Networking :: Wirelss Broadcom 4312 On Dell D620 Not Loading Under CentOS 5 / Sort It?

Jan 20, 2011

I have installed CentOS 5 just downloaded yesterday on a Dell D620. Everything but the wireless card works. So I found this article:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom
and followed it step by step and was able to complete all of the tasks. The problem is that obviously it still won't start. It is not even recognized as an adapter but when I run lspci -v it is there sure enough. When I look under the networking GUI it is listed there but it has no MAC assigned to it. Please let me know what command output you need to see and I'll get here asap. I have searched this forum and other sites and nothing so far has worked.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Boot After Nvidia Driver Install?

Mar 4, 2010

This is my first day with Umbuntu and my first post here at the forums. I bought a Dell Pentium 4 with a fresh install of Umbuntu 9.10 on it. Worked well until I decided to do something a newbie shouldn't do and install a graphics card and drivers. The graphics card worked just fine until the drivers were installed and I tried to reboot the system. Now it no longer boots. Some specifics for you.

Since my time with Ubuntu is limited to hours, the nomenclature will probably be wrong. But I will try to get the point across. The card is a EVGA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. On first start up with this card the computer functioned fine. I went to a place where you could change the screen options. There were three selections and I don't remember the names (idiot that I am). I selected the middle one. The OS stated that in order to utilize all the capabilities of nvidia graphics cards blah, blah, blah, a driver would need to be downloaded and activated. No name, just a driver. OK, do it (sounds kinda windows like). The download seemed to go OK, but now I needed to reboot to activate the driver.

Now: Ubuntu logo comes up. Screen goes to a text screen that says:

Ubuntu 9.10 dave-ubuntu tty1
dave-ubuntu login:

This screen flashes and does not take input from the keyboard or mouse. Next, I removed the graphics card and used the on-board graphics. Same result with faster flashing. What have I done? Apparently Ubuntu and Linux in general don't have a system recovery option? I read something about the GRUB menu, but the system flasher GRUB loading for half a second and then is on to locking up. I can't seem to get to a GRUB menu. What a way to finish the day.
