Ubuntu Networking :: One Touch X200S Virgin Mobile Broadband Apocalypse?

Apr 11, 2010

I can't get my sister new computer (she needs for work) to work with her mobile broadband dongle (details at bottom of post). The light on the dongle flashes green when plugged in, it recognises the connection in mobile broadband network connections, but won't connect (i checked connect automatically, it doesn't come up as an option in the top panel network thingy either.

Googled a solution that works for other people, not for me. The solution is for ubuntu 8.[URL].. I've been using Ubuntu for a year or so but not that experienced in fixing problems. The wifi and screen brightness settings are't working either but that isn't really a problem, assume it will get fixed in an update soon.

Samsung N210 Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 2 (updated from 9.10, dongle didn't work in 9.10 either) Virgin Media Mobile Broadband Dongle. TCT Mobile Ltd, One Touch X200S

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Virgin Broadband

Jun 23, 2010

After googling "Virgin wireless broadband"+Ubuntu I got two posts on seperate websites that advised changing APN to VirginBroadband from Virgininternet whcih I did and also followed the advice of one of the aforementioned posts to disable all Authentication Methods except PAP, I still haven't been able to connect although the machine is obviously trying to. So should I try enableing other Authentication Methods, or could it be a hardware or some other problem?

I am attempting to connect to Virgin Broadband (Australia) pre-paid using a Huawei E160e modem in Ubuntu 9.10 UNR. OpenSUSE Wireless :: 11.2 Virgin Broadband Can't Connect To Internet?

Apr 27, 2010

I have just recently installed Open SUSE 11.2 from a CD I got from a Linux Magazine.Installed this fine as a dual-boot machine on my HP laptop. To access the Internet, I have normally used 2 ways:1. WIFI Connection via my home desktopUsing Netgear WG111v3 USB Adapter.2. Virgin Broadband USB Mobile Broadband stickI have no problem connecting this via my Windows Vista operating system.Somehow, under Open SUSE 11.2, this is a problem. 2. Virgin Broadband - I managed to get the Virgin Broadband icon of a mobile phone saying that it's connected and "Active" by keying in the number "*99#", username/password as blank and APN as VirginBroadband". However, when I launch Firefox browser, I couldn't get to any external Website even though the icon for the Virgin Broadband says that it's Active and connected.

So what's the problem ?1. WIFI Connectivity to Home Desktop WIFI - with this I have never never got any connection at all. It kept saying "Activating" and I have set up the connection and entered the WEP 128-bit paraphrase hex digits. I managed to scan and got the correct SSID and as I know they belong to my desktopI read somewhere that Netgear WG111v3 is not compatible with Open Suse 11.2 and will need to install the driver for this. So I did obtain the .INF file and installed ndiswrapper -i with the .inf file.. However, still not successful.I'm thinking of buying a Belkin USB Adapter which is in the list of compatible USB WIFI Adapter for Open Suse 11.2 - .. the 802.11g chipset.. as I couldn't get this to work

Ubuntu Networking :: 8.04 LTS - No Settings For Mobile Broadband

Jan 27, 2010

I have an USB (Huawei 1751) modem for mobile broadband. I had it up and running in Ubuntu 9.10 but I had to clear the computer for various reasons. I have decided to only use LTS versions so for the reinstall I have used Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I have downloaded and installed usb_modeswitch and can see that the modes is changed to the right value. After that I wanted to add a new mobile broadband connection in the network connections wizzard - but cannot see any settings for mobile broadband. I am sure it must be possible - but where is this function hidden in version 8.04 ?

Ubuntu Networking :: Unstable Mobile Broadband ?

Mar 6, 2010

I have just switched to Ubuntu from Win 7 RC. So far its been fun, learning to use terminal and all. But I have got a problem now I cannot find a solution to.

I am using 3 Mobile Broadband. The thing just worked - I plugged it in, created a new connection, modified config a little and was happily browsing.

However, it started acting out yesterday. When I boot the system with the modem plugged in, the USB stick is recignised and NetworkManager starts connecting (I have auto connect on). It then shows the "connected" message, and generally appears working fine.

On the other hand, I cannot open a single page in Firefox, it shows the default server not found page.

I used the approach Windows taught me: close, open, retry. I unmount the 3 Mobile Broadband drive, pull the modem out and reconnect it. NetworkManager then does it's job and this time everything works.

I nether had this problem in Win7 or Vista. It looks to me something goes wrong during the booting when the modem is plugged in.

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 - Use My Mobile Broadband Once - Then It Stopped

May 3, 2010

I decided to give 10.04 a shot, and upon first boot, I was able to setup and use my Rogers Rocket mobile broadband stick. When I rebooted, I found that it was in the network settings, but I was unable to connect, nor did it show up as an option in the drop-menu. I played with the terminal trying to see if anything was wrong, but everything seems normal, which is to say I don't even know what I'm looking for in regards to this type of connection.

I obviously know now that it works, I just don't know what made it stopped for the time being. I'm thinking of doing a fresh install over the current partition, and trying to work the issue from there.

Ubuntu Networking :: Which Mobile Broadband Works Best With 10.10 Out Of Box

Dec 26, 2010

In a separate thread I discuss my issues with getting my Blackberry 9650 tethering with Verizon and Ubuntu 10.10 with bluetooth. I'm still hoping to get that working, but in the mean time, I've actually started to think about perhaps getting a mobile broadband card from a US provider separate from my blackberry anyway - preferably one that works right out of box with Ubuntu.

Does anyone here have any recommendations? I know there's a lot of compatible devices, but maybe someone here can recommend a provider (I don't have to stick with Verizon - willing to go AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.) and a USB mobile broadband device that'll work pretty smoothly?

Ubuntu Networking :: Mobile Broadband Connection Tcp Not Always Working?

Jan 12, 2010

I have a strange problem with my mobile broadband connection. I hope I am not the only one (so it will be fixed), but since I haven't found any others having the same problem yet, I am not so confident.I started using mobile broadband, via a HUAWEI E1762 HSPA USB stick since Jaunty. I've had the same problem in jaunty as I do now in Karmic. Although in Karmic, i've had additional problems (that problem i've found listed as a known bug). The problem is that when I get my mobile broadband to connect, it is sometimes, somehow, not fully connected. Symptoms are as follows:

1. panel icon shows connected and good strength (good)
2. skype connects, and I can chat and voip (good)
3. ping does not work (bad)

But how can I enforce the network manager that it selects Bluetooth instead of USB ?

Ubuntu Networking :: ZTE MF112 (3 Mobile Broadband) Mounting As A CD?

Jul 10, 2010

I bought the MF112 mobile broadband dongle from 3 and I'm pleased to say it worked pretty much straight out of the box! The only problem, well minor annoyance, is that as described here.[URL].. it detects as a CD drive which must be ejected before you can use it as a modem. When running Windows it does the same, and autorun kicks in to install the 3 software, so it's clearly down to the on-board storage.

My question is this.. is there any way to stop it detecting as a CD drive? My experience so far with Ubuntu tells me pretty much anything is possible with enough time and effort but I'm hoping I'm missing something and someone out there has a simple fix for this! I've been using Ubuntu for over 3 years now but I still feel like a beginner sometimes when it's something I haven't come across before Edit: Just to add that the on-board storage it mounts is read-only.

A word of warning to anyone else thinking of buying this, you WILL need access to either a Windows/Mac machine, an equivalent VM, or a local 3 store to retrieve your 'My3' password (for top-ups etc) as it can only be retrieved by using the 3 software. A slight pain, but takes seconds

Ubuntu Networking :: Use Droid Incredible For Mobile Broadband On 10.10?

Dec 6, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10. I wanted to setup my droid incredible as a modem to connect via the builtin broadband connection under network manager. I searched around and found couple of ways using wvdial as well as a tunneling app. The funny thing is, that I was able to setup my phone as a usbserial device and use it ONCE to connect successfully via the built-in broadband connection setup method. But ever since, it has not worked . Currently I am running a fresh install of 10.10, and have tried to insert usbserial module for my phone in the kernel, but it does not work. The command I used :

Code:
sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x00b4 product=0x0ffb I have not made this change permanent though. But whenever I run this and connect my phone with broadband connect enabled, it recognizes my phone however it uses a 'generic' driver according to the logs, and it never lets me enable Broadband Connection or connect successfully.
