Ubuntu Networking :: NAT A Certain Port To An IP On Network?
Jun 7, 2010
I want to do something that should be simple... NAT a certain port to an IP on my network. *rant about how much I've tried, googled and failed*Our building has assigned us an IP Range (say, 10.0.0.x). They've also provided me with 1 public IP, which they NAT to an IP in that range of my choice (say, 10.0.0.50). I want to NAT port 6500 on that IP, to a different IP's port 80 (10.0.0.51:80) (i.e. come in on 10.0.0.50:6500, forward all the packets to 10.0.0.51:80).I've reset my firewall in Webmin, so it looks like this :Packet filtering : Input (Default Drop)
Code:
AcceptIf input interface is not eth1
AcceptIf protocol is TCP and TCP flags ACK (of ACK) are set
[code]....

I installed ZTE MF 626 modem in my F10 with kernel 2.6.27.12-170, i run usb_modeswitch and so far things happened normally. Watching through /var/log/messages it says that F10 detects two port device for this modem: ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2, and in the sequence it disable port ttyUSB1 BUT Network Manager still set this port.I mean, when i connect via wvdial appointing to ttyUSB2 i get connection, but Network Manager fails to do it appointing to ttyUSB1. How to change device port in Network Manager?

I have a question about port forwarding. I have an internal Red Hat server and I would like to use it as a central connection point to some back end servers. This is not an internet router setup. I was thinking I could use iptables and do port forwarding similar to an internet router but internal to internal.
Basically I would like to take any connections to port 22 on server1 interface eth0 and forward them out of interface eth1 to server2 port 22.I am finding a lot of information on port forwarding, but it is all based on using an internet router that is passing through to an internal server. I need to know how to configure a basic linux setup with no existing iptables entries so that I can do this within an existing network. Also, if there is a better or easier approach I would appreciate any direction. I don't want to do this through an SSH tunnel.I know to start I need the following to enable forwarding in the kernel and a firewall PREROUTING rule.

VERY new to linux, erm but I have an issue that needs solving!I recently moved to university, where their network blocks sftp port 22, this means that I cannot connect to my FTP server which is running a version of linux. Now I've got this ftp server connected to a seedbox and it was created using the following walk through..Code:I have written this guide for a friend, but I though it would be useful for others as well.
There are several guides floating around, but I found that most always cock up in some way. This one is tried and tested to work on Debian Etch (on an OVH rps, but should apply to most servers). If there is a new stable release of rtorrent/libtorrent then I will update this guide to show you how to update it (without reinstalling the whole server).
At the bottom there are also instructions to install ftp access & some network monitoring software.Basically, I would really like someone to be able to construct the commands on how to change the listen port for sftp connection on linux or add another port to the list that Linux would use so that I could put in through putty.

I just got a new Sandy Bridge motherboard which comes with a single Intel 82579v network port adapter.
Does anyone know a way to make the Intel 82579v network port work with Linux on Fedora 14?
I tried finding an Intel Linux driver online for it but no luck so far.
I read something online about it may have the newer kernel drivers available for the Fedora kernel, but not familiar with how that works.

In SuSE firewall0. I do have a openSuse 11.4 and multiple IP addresses on eth0 interface
I run (trying to/have to) multiple TOMCAT servers.
I am trying to have each tomcat instance listen to on separate IP address for example:
What i am trying to do is to redirect
a) tomcat 1 -
a) tomcat 2 -
And so on.
I know that it has to be possible.
I do have just eth0/
Is is it possible. Do I have to create "vittual interfaces"? eth0:1, .......... and do redirection ?
"Server" has got just single interface - just 1 ethernet calbe goes to that server. I am planning to have 10-15 tomcat's on that server (I have to unfortunatley) and each has to run on port 80
Is it possible to "grant" permissions to normal users to run app on port 80 - that would solve me lots of problems if impossible to redirect.
I tried to setcap 'cap_net_bind_service=+ep' /path/to/tomcat ...... but no luck

I am setting up Apache (Fedora 12) inside my home network. From inside my home network I access it without any problem. I need to set it up to access it from internet. I have the following questions. Here is temporary setup for testing purpose.
Internet-->ADSL modem (SEIMENS Speed Stream 4200)---> Apache (Fedora 12)
1. Do I have to do any kind of ports forwarding on ADSL modem. (There is no option to do port forwarding on Modem) May be I need different Model of Modem??
2. I tired to Ping my real IP for modem form another computer from internet. I am even unable to PING the ADSL 's real IP. Why it is that?

I have a third party program (tightvnc) which I want to monitor and detect if it loses a connection with a client. I don't care if the client has the program open but isn't doing anything with it, I only want to know if the actual TCP connection is lost.
Since TCP takes forever to die on it's own I was thinking the best way to detect if a connection is lost is by bandwidth the bandwidth on the tcp port allocated to the VNC connection. Are there any tools built in to redhat (RHEL 5.2) which I could use to do this? Since I don't have full control of the operating system I would prefer to use built in tools rather then trying to get a new tool installed.

When I use the following command:

everything works fine. I can log in, and local port forwarding is done. Otherwise when I use the command:
ssh user@ssh_server -R 5500:localhost:5500 -p 22
I get an error "remote port forwarding failed for listen port 5500". However when I try remote port forwarding in WinXP by use of putty there is no problem...

I'm using a Debian servers, as router/firwall.. I've two ethernet interfaces into the server, one for wan and one for lan. The i use SNAT so my LAN clients can access the internet throgh the debian router. That is working... Now i want to be able to access servers on the LAN site from the WAN site, and i wanna use port address translation (PAT). I have a FTP server running on a lan server, so i'm trying to portward port 21.
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth1 -d (WANIP) --dport 21 -j DNAT --to 192.168.1.2:21
When people try to access my FTP from the WAN site, they are redirected to the local FTP server, and they are promted for crendentials, but when the credentials are typed, and the local ftp server should answer the wan request, the connections dies.
The wan clients are being promted for credentials, so they are redirected to the local lan server, but after that the connections dies, so i think there is some kind of nat problem, when the local lan server is trying to respond to the wan request..
Here i my iptables script:
#flush table
iptables -F
#input regler

I make an application on GNU/Linux which listening on a MULTICAST stream, so I open my unconnected socket, bind it on a MULTICAST address and a port, join the multicast group with the "setsockopt (IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP)", then I receive datagram on my socket.
Now I've two different instances of the same application that run with their own MULTICAST address and port. And what I found strange is that, after a misconfiguration, I switch the ports, for example:
Emitting on 225.0.0.1/23451 and 225.0.0.2/23452
Receiving on 225.0.0.1/23452 and 225.0.0.2/23451
And my receiving part doesn't care about the MULTICAST address, it looks like the socket is listening on the port number only! I mean that the receiver [225.0.0.1/23452] take its datagrams from emitter [225.0.0.2/23452] and vice-versa!

I am facing two issues with CUPS - 1. I have installed cups 1.3.9 over OpenSuse11 x86. Please check below -
cups:/usr/share/cups/banners # cups-config --version
1.3.9
cups:/usr/share/cups/banners # cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.27.7-9-pae (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.2 [gcc-4_3-branch revision 141291] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100
I have added few printers over there and everything is working fine. I can also able to add - delete - modify any printers from "yast2 printer" command. I can also able to browse cups web interface via http://cups:631, but when I am going to manage the printers (start - stop - delete etc), none of the buttons are working in firefox5 not even in IE also. Older version of firefox is giving error as "This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Firefox has canceled the request for your protection." All other buttons are working properly.
2. LINUX - LINUX Printing - OK
LINUX - WINDOWS Printing - OK
WINDOWS - LINUX Printing - NOT OK
While giving printing from Windows machine (Printer attached on Linux), there is no problem to coonect the printers, but unable to print.

iptables -I FORWARD -i br0 -o tun0 -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD -i tun0 -o br0 -j ACCEPT
iptables -I INPUT -i tun0 -j REJECT
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o tun0 -j MASQUERADE
what should I add/change to set up port forwarding of port 1000 to ip 192.168.1.200. also how to get the answer sent by 192.168.1.200 follow the same route used by the data received through port forwarding.

i have an embbeded hardware that uses bootp for booting from a Network Managemnt Host (NMH)on the same ethernet. The embedded hardware has both kind of ports i.e ethernet as well as E1/T1. I would like ask, what do i require to establish a communication-link between the embedded hardware and the NMH throuh E1/T1 ports of embedded hardware, so as to make it boot through from E1/T1. Further, NMH possesses only ethernet port. Just to refine my questions i'd like to know what additions do i need to do on my NMH , like may be i have to put an E1/T1 port or is it possible that the E1/T1 port can be directly connected to an ethernet port on the other host.
pardon me if i am not making absolute sense here as my knowledge is limited on Layer 1 and layer 2.

I'm relatively new to Ubuntu and these forums. I ran rkhunter, and saw this warning in the check for backdoor ports: [14:45:09] Warning: Network TCP port 32982 is being used by /usr/bin/python2.6. Possible rootkit: Solaris Wanuk Use the 'lsof -i' or 'netstat -an' command to check this. I also saw these warnings toward the bottom:

I was wondering first of all about the first warning, the port. I have a feeling that the second set of warnings are false positives, but I would be open to thoughts on that as well.
