I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop and I ve installed Jessie with KDE desktop.Everything's fine !!!!! but sometimes when I use webbrowsers the systray with KDE menustart is going off and missing. After that I can't switch window to window and can't minimize or resize the actual activity, without or with hotkeys either can't close the window, and these option bars ar missing too.I always do restart but I ve had enough. It is very irritating. Also I have tried to switch user logons with Alt Ctrl Fxx and start another graphic array with startx and it has worked fine but that's not the right way I think!!!!
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've recently burned Fedora 15 into a CD, in order to install from there onto my computer. However, when boot into Fedora, my wireless doesn't work, instead, it says that firmware is missing.I have had exactly the same problem installing other Linux distros, such as Ubuntu. When I consulted the support at Ubuntu, they were unable to solve the problem. The 'missing firmware' problem is exactly the same in other Linux distros, so I'm pretty much guessing that it's the same problem and is due to my wireless card incompatibility or something.

I used wubi to install 9.10 on my dell inspiron 1525. I had a problem with not being able to get wireless working, and found out that I had to activate the Broadcom STA driver which lead to a crash. Now I've rebooted, everytime I try to install I get 'SystemError() InstallArchives' or the authenticate box hangs. Is there another way to install these drivers?

After updating and installing the guest additions and also installing compiz-setting-manager i'm still not able to get the compiz effects. please any suggestions .
View 8 Replies View RelatedI will say this now; I am still in high school, so forgive my stupidity. I am trying to install either 10.10 or 10.04 on a Dell 1525. It has no operating system on it, and the CD/DVD drive is nonexistent. I have tried to install 10.10 on it using a USB, with both UNetbootin and Pen Drive Linux. Using either one, both end up freezing at the "Preparing to Install" screen. When trying to install 10.04, it will not load, even after 24 hours. On the loading screen, I pressed F1 to view the terminal and got this output:
(process:352): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

I got all downloads from their home websites, www.ubuntu.com, www.pendrivelinux.com, and www.unetbootin.sourceforge.net. I have spent all my spare time since the newest release trying to fix whatever problem there is, so does anyone know what I did wrong?
I'm on a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Arch Linux with an Intel 965 GM video chipset (from dmesg). I'm using the xf86-video-intel driver, and Xorg (using xfce4) works flawlessly, including compositing. Before getting into details about the HDMI, I'd like to ask why I don't gave an xorg.conf.d/10-moniter.conf, it's not there, just evdev, quirks, and synaptics (because I figured that moniter.conf could be modified to include HDMI). So, basically when I'm on my XFCE4 desktop, I plug in the HDMI cable and to the TV, and on windows, it would would work, but on Arch the TV just says: "No input", and my desktop just stays the same, so absolutely nothing happens. If I have it connected upon bootup, the HDMI displays (the BIOS and grub menu on the TV) until I select to boot Arch linux on Grub, then the tv screen goes blank. I've tried Googling this but I got no decent results, just a bunch of random posts of audio not working with Nvidia.
PS - I did dmesg and lspci (with grep HDMI) and no results, so maybe it doesn't even recognize it, but then what do I do? There's obviously Linux support for HDMI...
I have had to install the B43 diver before to get wireless to work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on the wireless I get a message saying that I am missing firmware. I've tried connecting via ethernet, however this doesn't work either, would it be a problem if I just found a download for firmware, downloaded on another comp and copy it to my linux computer?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 wireless on Jessie Cinnamon.
I have installed the b43 firmware and after that everything seemed working but just for a few seconds.
I have tried to reboot and after that I can't browse the internet just for a few seconds and after that Iceweasel loading and loading and nothing's happening.
I can't surf on the net just with cable but the wifi setup shows everything is okay 95% signal strength and connected.
Also tried reinstall the firmware and reboot and it's all the same after.
I can easily use my wifi with my smartphone too.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using slackware64 13.1 ever since it came out on my Dell Inspiron 1525, and I haven't really had any problems with my webcam in that time. However, last time I tried to use skype - I noticed that it couldn't detect it.
In kinfocenter, my webcam is picked up (OmniVision Technologies). The only time I've had a similar problem in the past is when I used the "Compact" option in lilo.conf, and the webcam wouldn't turn on. Just removing the option solved the problem.
Since I don't know what steps caused this to happen, I'm not sure where to start fixing it
In the past I've installed 9.10 using a hardwired network port for the web with the above card in the machine. After the install I got a notification of an update which downloaded the appropriate software for the above wireless card. Worked like a charm. Today I installed 11.04 and zilch. No wireless. Supposedly the firmware is missing. I guess my question is why is something that worked well in the past now missing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd give Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal??) a try on an old Dell Latitude D600 I had lying around. Install went great. Everything seems to run nice and slick.. except one thing.. the wireless is giving me the old "Device not ready (firmware missing)" So I can only use my lappy on a leash.
It's a pretty common Broadcom NIC... and I've tried running the System / Administration / Additional Drivers and nothing comes up.
It seems to me I need a driver someplace...I don't know where or how to get it installed.
I had 10.04 and my wireless worked out of the box.
I just installed the latest and my wireless says "firmware missing"
The card is : 00:09.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)
Fedora OS: 2.6.38.8-35.fc15.i686 NOtebook: Compaq Presario V3424TU Wireless connection is not enabling and it is showing "Firmware missing" I need to connect wireless to help my final year project.

View 7 Replies View Relatedafter installing Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04, I'm experiencing tons and tons of complications with the wireless Internet connection. I have solved most of them. Now I have only one thing left. When I hit the drop-down menu for wireless connections, it says "Wireless connection (Firmware missing)"
I have installed the driver for my wireless card but what is the firmware? I honestly don't know what it is although it's very basic. I have a Broadcom 43xx as my wireless card (specifically 4306). How do I get the firmware for it? Do I find it in Windows? Also I cannot get b43-fwcutter because I have absolutely to Internet connection on Ubuntu. To post this, I'm using Windows.
I cant install or do to work the compiz...
my driver is Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
what can i do to have all effects and working fine?
I tried to implement the solution given at: [URL] on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, running Ubuntu 11.04. However, I still can't connect to wifi.
I can see that the files were extracted inside /lib/firmware/ (I see a b43 and a b43 legacy folder).
The lspci -vnn | grep 14e4 returns:
Code:
0b:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01)
Recently, I wiped my existing install of Ubuntu 10.10 and reinstalled it over. That went smoothly, except for one little snag. Now when I try to connect to the Internet, up on the top when I click the little network icon, under Wireless Networks, instead of showing the networks I can connect to, it says:
"Device Not Ready (Firmware Missing)" So I move the little wireless switch on my laptop, and then it says:
"Wireless Disabled" What did I do, and how do I fix it?
I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop. For some reason Wireless Network does not work any more (there was installed 9.04 before).
lspci says:
Code:
00:06.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB22/A IEEE-1394a-2000 Controller (PHY/Link)
System->Administration->Additional Drivers doesn't list anything.
I tried to find my solution for hours now but no luck. I'm a medical student and the other day I finally found the time to set up ubuntu for my first time. Everything was working great and I had wireless up and running. However, I tried to set up tethering to my iphone and after that my wireless hasn't been working (I've noticed no other problems). [URL]..Then I used this tutorial [URL].. However, after doing these steps the computer needed to reboot (I actually forget exactly where but I had to reboot in the middle of the second tutorial). After my computer restarted my wireless no longer showed up. By this I mean that wireless network no longer even showed up as an option when I left clicked then connections. However, I did not lose the wireless profile under network connections. So I went to system and noticed that the Broadcom STA driver was no longer active. So I tried to activate again and received this message.
