Ubuntu :: Network Shares In WINE?

May 24, 2010

I'm using WINE and have to open a share on my network. I go to "My Network Places" and it says it's invalid, I try manually typing in the URI and it says it's invalid. I try to assign a drive letter to the URI and it says it's not a valid drive.

I can connect to my network shares fine using "Connect to a Server" & bookmark with the file browser, however when I use OpenOffice writer Spreadsheet to open/save files the shares disappear in the"Open/Places". Is this a bug in Ubuntu or Open Office? Is there an update/fix?

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Not Auto-mounting Network Shares?

Enviroment:

-server ubuntu 9.04 with samba
-client fresh ubuntu 10.04

ubuntu is not auto-mounting samba shares. Old 9.04 done it without a problem. I need to type sudo mount -a to have samba mounted.

fstab:

ls -l
drwxrwxrwx 25 root root 0 2010-05-03 17:44 mokonawww

Tested with diffrent parameters. And another problem also with samba shares, when I edit file from editor (eclipse) after save i got 'file changed dialog'. seems like file is written with some delay ? and timestamp dont agree (its my blind quess). On 9.04 no problems. Tested with 2 instances of Eclipse. One copied from 9.04 and second fresh install. Other editors raport the same problem. Its anoying as hell.

But when I want to upload a file for example as an attachment in gmail, after clicking the browse button, only the local drives and folders are visible in the file upload window. Is there some way to tell my browsers (Chromium and FF) there are more drives in life? (I'm using Maverick Meerkat). (And I'm not sure the problem is my browser or my settings or anything else..)

Ubuntu Networking :: Suddenly Unable To See Network Shares

Dec 21, 2010

I have three computers on the network, one is using Windows Vista, one is in an office room using Ubuntu 10.10, and one is in the living room using Ubuntu 10.10. All three computers have folders shared, and were all three reading files just fine with one another for a couple of months. To share the folders, I just right clicked on them, selected sharing options, and checked the boxes for "share this folder" and "guest access". Both Ubuntu computers have samba installed and configured so the Vista computer can see their shares. Tonight, the Ubuntu computer in the living room stopped being able to see the other computers under places -> network. The other Ubuntu computer and Vista computer can still see each other's shares just fine.

I also created a test share folder with a file in it on the living room Ubuntu computer, and it can be seen by the other Ubuntu computer. I can ping the computer in the living room, and the computer in the living room can ping the other two computers. I set a static IP address on the Ubuntu computer in the living room to rule out an IP address conflict. Under network, if I go to "go -> location..." I'm not quite sure what to type in there to find other computers. Under places -> network, the only thing that comes up on the Ubuntu computer in the living room is it's own shares. I tried using the search feature, but was unable to come up with anything resembling my particular problem within a reasonable amount of time.

Ubuntu :: Create Shortcuts To Network Shares On The Desktop?

Mar 11, 2011

I'm in a situation where we might see a few Ubuntu machines added to the fleet of systems here at work (school district). A problem that I'm facing is I would like to do a very, very simple task in Ubuntu, which is to create a shortcut share to a network resource. On Windows, you can right click - new - shortcut - \servershare, done. Then when you click on it, you have the appropriate permissions within the folder based on what permission settings exist on the actual server where the folder resides.

In Ubuntu, the closest I can get is to create these shortcut links on the left side of Nautilus in the bookmark pane. Here's the part that rages me to no end. If I log out and back in, they're ALL renamed to "smb". LOL. What. Really? I'd like to create shortcuts for several network resources. I'd like these links to either be within the Nautilus bookmark area, or within the desktop itself. Ubuntu is on the domain,

Ubuntu Servers :: Authentication Methods Over Network Shares And SFTP

Feb 15, 2010

I run some IT systems for my schools Engineering student organization.

We are upgrading our systems and I just purchased a new server system which I am configuring.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and the new likewise-open packages.

The points I bring up following this sentence are to fulfill this final goal : Get SFTP, SSH, and Network Share's over our private network all using the schools Active Directory for auth and it's groups to derive privs.

So... Here's what i've done and what i've tried to do.

1 ) I set up likewise-open and got it to join the domain. When I do this I can ssh to localhost as 'schoolnetworkADname'. So that part works (hurray). To get a network share to use these same auth methods I have tried installing likewise-open-server. Everything launches find and the daemons run, but when I go into computer management on a windows server to set up the actual shares, I get permission denied. The account it is giving permission denied to is the same AD account that join likewise-open to the network, so... what is going on.

2 ) Samba, fail. I can't seem to get samba to run on this machine at all, which is strange because even my Samba expert was puzzled. It just won't let Samba join the domain properly, and due to this, I want to keep on the newer likewise package... unless I have to switch to this.

How I can get the lame likewise-open-server to work?

Networking :: Ubuntu 10.04 Delay Mounting Network Shares In Fstab?

Jun 14, 2010

Using Xubuntu 10.04 to connect to some Windows XP shares by adding lines to fstab. The network shares are not mounted at boot, but can be mounted from the command line, after the OS has booted and everything is up. I am suspecting the network isn't up yet, when fstab is processed. I tried adding the option "_netdev" to the relevant network share lines in fstab, but the shares still don't mount automatically at boot up. I read that this option only works for NFS and I am using CIFS. Can someone confirm that _netdev only works for NFS ?

I've seen solutions involving running a mount script after the OS is fully loaded, or running a cron job to periodically check the status of the share and mount if needed. Good workaround but doesn't address the root cause. Is there any other way (besides the _netdev option) to delay mounting of network shares that appear in fstab until the network interface is up ?

OpenSUSE Network :: Accessing Samba Shares In KDE?

Jan 6, 2010

I wonder how to get Samba share access working well...Dolphin supports Samba but it doesn't really mount anything, it seems... Non-KDE Applications therefor can't access samba that way. In Gnome there was a workaround for the same problem. You could simply go to ~/.gvfs in any application and find the samba mounted there. Is there anything like that in KDE? I set up a Samba mount via /etc/fstab for now but that is quite annoying because it fails after each Suspend, changing WLAN Access Points, etc. Then I have to go to the console and manually launch sudo mount -a to get it working again. How can I make things more comfortable?

P.S.: I'm even up for using something else than Samba to talk to my fileserver. However I don't know of anything that would work better in this regard. (NFS would have the exactly same problem for example)

One more thing. When the client goes into the samba share, it sees the workgroup. Clicking into that, it sees the name of the server computer. Clicking into that,it sees two folders: "profiles" and "users". Clicking into "users" goes into the shared folder. Ubuntu :: Unable To Access Network Shares From Nautilus File Manager

Oct 15, 2010

I'm running 64 bit Lucid on a HTPC that is networked with a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. Up until this morning, sharing media between these two worked fine. When I attempted to connect through Rhythmbox to play music, the computer couldn't find the files. I attempted to access the network through Nautilus and it was unable to mount the location. So I tried the Create Launcher command and created a link of the network on the desktop. I was prompted to login and it worked perfectly This has happened once before and the only way to fix it was to reinstall Ubuntu.I would very much like to avoid that if possible as the system is setup perfectly.

I wouldn't bother with the issue if it didn't prevent me from adding my music files to Rhythmbox. I have run findsmb as well as smbtree. Smbtree returned nothing and findsmb had a dotted line with nothing underneath. Nothing has been removed. I did install security updates this morning, but since it has happened before, I am more inclined to thing it is a bug or conflict somewhere.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Access Windows Shares On An All Lucid Network

Oct 26, 2010

I marked this solved when I discovered, after much reconfiguring, I had a faulty Netgear router - I just thought I'd save you reading all this to find the answer.I have 3 machines at home all running Lucid. All have Samba and shared folders but I can't access files on any machine from any other. This worked ok when they were running Karmic. I'm also unable to set up printing across the network from the two machines without local printers. The main machine has 2 printers connected via USB, the others are using WiFi. I'm not using firewalls on any machine.

Filesharing
On any machine I go to Places, Network and Nautilus opens at network:/// and shows me 'Windows Network' I open that and see the Workgroup folder which I open and see the folder is empty. (I did see the 3 machines before I completely removed Samba and re-installed a few minutes ago)

Printing
On one of the remote machines I go to Add Printer, Select Device, Network Printer, Windows Printer via Samba, Browse but I can't see the machine with the printers attached in the Workgroup. Another clue is that when I look at the printer properties, policies on the main machine all 3 boxes are ticked, Enabled, Accepting jobs (but it says Not published) and Shared.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Shares Not Working After Recent Update (libsmbclient )?

Sep 1, 2011

I have ubuntu 10.04. After update I performed yesterday, I could no longer access from other computers shared folders on my ubuntu machine. I checked update history and it included the following that appeared to be related to network shares:

Code:
libsmbclient (2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.4) to 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.7
libpam-smbpass (2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.4) to 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.7
samba (2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.4) to 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.7
samba-common (2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.4) to 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.7

[Code]..

I would prefer to use the latest version because it includes security updates. Does anyone know if there's some trick to getting network shares to work with the latest version of libsmbclient?

OpenSUSE Network :: Mounting NFS Shares According To LDAP Authentication?

Jan 18, 2011

I am posting this as I have tried several times to work this out. I have read article after article, post after post and tutorial after to tutorial to sort this issue. I have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine running as the LDAP and NFS server with two Opensuse 11.3 desktop machines. Both of the Opensuse machines can login using the LDAP server for authentication and this works fine. The server also exports the NFS Shares no problem but I am unable to mount the shares from the Opensuse machines. I have been using Yast, NFS Client to mount them.

Yast NFS Client can see the shares and lists them however when I apply the settings it states:

'Unable to mount entries in etc/fstab' I need to mount the shares according to the LDAP details as I want the users to be able to access their files no matter which machine they login at. Can anyone shed any light on the issue. Any help would be great and I would be enternally grateful as I am now beginning to pull my hear out slightly.
