Ubuntu Multimedia :: Background Music And Sounds Louder Than Voices
Feb 17, 2010
I am running Ubuntu remix on my Asus Aspire Netbook. When watching movies on Video player and VLC I get good loud sound on music in the movie but I can barely hear anything when people talk ... background music and sounds are way louder than voices. I know these files work because I watched them before when I still had Windows XP on my netbook.
I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.
I'm still new to Ubuntu and I'm trying to get the sound working. I have a Satellite X205-SLi1 and just installed Lucid. Everything is okay, except for the sound. My laptop has 5.1 harman/kardon speakers and I think just some of them are being used and the quality is bad. I'm not sure what to do...
I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this, so feel free to move it around (mods) I have a Nokia 2700, the full specs of which are available here - [URL].. And it looks somewhat like this >
So the idea here is, I have connected it up in every possible way to my laptop through bluetooth. I have found a way to stream music playing on the phone through my laptop speakers. What I want to be able to do is to be able to stream music playing on my laptop (all sounds through the soundcard) via bluetooth (perhaps?) from my mobile phone speakers..
When I use my ubuntu computer to watch some movies that are encoded into 5.1 sound I can't hear the voices of the people in the movie. I guess that is because the voices are put on the front speaker and I have connected the computer to an stereo-amplifier.
I mainly use XBMC and have noticed the problem there but I have also tried VLC and noticed the same problem there. In xbmc I checked the box "Downmix multichannel audio to stereo" but it doesn't work.
I use a standard ubuntu 10.04 64-bit install that was upgraded from a 9.10 install.
I have a HP laptop model HP G72 Notebook PC, Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @2.27GHz & the Sound devices are Intel(R) Display Audio & Realtek High Definition Audio.
This machine came loaded with Windows7 & I have successfully dual booted it with Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.3.
The problem I am having is that I cannot get the sound to work at all in Ubuntu. No opening sounds or anything else that I have tried. No Web sounds, no CD sounds... All sounds work fine on the Windows side, but nothing I have tried so far seem to work with Ubuntu & I have tried many options from many threads.
Ok so I am a total newbie at Ubuntu Linux and I'm having problems I don't know how to solve.
1.) Up until yesterday this wasn't a problem, but after a power outage while I was connected I am now unable to connect to the internet anymore as it says "Networking is disabled", how do i enable the "networking"?
2.) Another problem I am having is that I am not able to dim the screen in order to save power among other uses, I've looked around but haven't been able to find a solution, I am running ubuntu on a Gateway M-Series Laptop.
3.) Finally, since installing linux I have been unable to listen to music or any other sounds through headphones or speakers, when i connect something into the audio output, the outer speakers do shut off but no sound is emitted through the speakers/headphones, and yes i have tried multiple ones to make sure it wasn't the headphones or speakers.
I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? Thanks.
How can I get louder sound?Usually all soundcards work right out of the box with ubuntu, but it seems that the volume is not as loud as it should be, even with all the settings to max.
I've been using opensuse for about a week.(although I'm not completely a linux noob) I've been slowly moving more of the stuff I do on windows over to suse. I thought my sound was working fine until I decided to get mp3s running on amarok. I followed a bunch of guides which didn't work. While I was messing around with stuff I noticed a startup noise. I just assumed it didn't have a startup noise. At some point I broke all of my sound except running wine, so I reinstalled.
Now that I've noticed, none of my notification sounds work. Stuff like skype, firefox, and wine still give me sounds.
(If anyone could point me in the direction of a good place to get mp3s working on amarok would be nice as well.)
I have been using outlook for years and i like the agenda it has. but i m tired of windows so i want use linux everywhere , for now i use ubuntu only at home , but at office , windows xp.
So this is my problem when i have an appointment it should have more annoying alerts or some windows that will pop up al the time til i click on it. i dont want to forget anything. also when can i get pluggin to add or something? i could download any plugins from here and i dont know to to install them.
So I don't use gnome, KDE, or XFCE, but I'm running Xubuntu. I'm constantly playing music via nvlc. While that music's still playing, I'd like to be able to hear a sound I run from the command line via
Code: cvlc beep.mp3
I've tried on and off over the years messing with pulse, esd, etc. output options for vlc, but never figured out exactly how to do this. In Windows, having a batchfile play a .wav at the same time as an mp3 player is playing music "just works" I know there must be a "just works" solution for Linux.
I'm currently using Ubuntu 9.10 and since I've installed it, I don't have any sounds at all. Sounds work fine on windows. My version of alsa is 1.0.21. I made sure that I've got nothing muted in alsa mixer and it seems that ubuntu detects my sound card. Card is HDA ATI SB Chip: IDT 92HD75B2X5
When ever I play any sound, It 'pops' at the beginning. These pops could be split seconds of no sound, actual popping sounds, or clicking. I'm thinking its Pulse Audio.
I'm having an issue where I can't hear any sounds in Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit). In the Sounds Preferences, under Hardware it correctly lists "SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio". The sound is not muted, and I've tried cycling through various Profile options in the hardware tab. Since it is correctly detected, I'm thinking that there might be something simple that I'm missing here. The motherboard is an MSI P6N Diamond: [URL]
i am running Fedora 14 32 bits and have an problem with the soundvolume the sound is too quiet i have checked alsamixergui and the volume is 100 % but the sound is very soft. I have the following soundcard/chip:00:05.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev a2)have someone any idea how to configure the sound that it plays louder.
when I play an MP4 movie everything is great except all I hear is the background sounds in the movie..and non of the foreground (ie the actors speaking)...I have uninstalled pulse audio in the past and use alsamixer for any sound configs.
I have startup sounds but no audio once I've logged in.I can see the volume meter in the pulseaudio volume control panel moving when I play music but no sounds.
After I put my laptop for a system update, some of it [sounds] works selectively in my browser when I am watching ..... but when I am playing some musics on my desktop, there's no any sounds coming out. Then I noticed that my Output is still in 100% but 0.00db and a Dummy Output.
I already tried some steps I saw in some threads that has the same problem too but it became worse, I no more [completely] sounds anymore.
Hi, I have a Creative HS-1200 headset. When I am listening to sound through it, and something makes a motion on screen(compiz, movie...really anything) then the sound is distorted. Like it takes a nanosecond pauses to redraw. This does not happen with my normal soundcard. Can anyone tell me how can I fix this?
When I'm in mozilla, and click to listen a link that contains a sound (mp3 for example), it doesn't play. For example, when i'm in [URL], and click to Listen, it doesn't play why?
When I attempt to use a Firefox Addon like Simple Timer, the audio alarm will not work. Instead, I get an error message Could not play the audio file! NS_ERROR_FAILURE I can get the same sounds to play in Google Chrome, but I prefer Firefox.
i have been running a happy mythbuntu 10.04 setup for awhile now. the other day i went to watch and video and the sound was all messed up. it sort of sounds like the way the borg talk.
i have uploaded a video to videos: [url]
i upgrade my asla to 1.0.23 using the upgrade scripts.
Should be a very simple question - how do I turn off the annoying beeps and bings when I delete a file or somesuch? In the XFCE sound settings I set the theme to none but I'm still getting these noises.
My ssytem is a Ubuntu Maverick install with an XFCE desktop so there may be more than one place I need to disable this.
I've been playing around with my settings for ages now but I cant get GTK-recordmydesktop to record anything other than my mic. Ideally I need the mic and the computer sounds to be recorded, any ideas how this can be done? I've googled around but nothing really helpful comes up. Also, if you need my hardware info, just tell me the command and i'll post the results.
I'm not sure what the technical term for the thing that creates midi sounds. Is it the midi sequencer? or midi driver?Regardless, I'm unhappy with the tones ubuntu produces for its drum midis. Does any one know how to change which tones it uses? I use lilypond to write percussion music and it can be easily translated into a midi file. I like to do this so that I can hear how the music sounds in real life and many mistakes.Unfortunately the toms are painfully low and hard to distinguish.
