Ubuntu Multimedia :: Webcam Feed Laggy And Choppy

Feb 25, 2011

I have three different webcams. All Logitech. Two are "cheapo" ones, and one is a more expensive, HD one. I'm running the stock Maverick desktop install, with no specifical extras for the video or the like. I plug in the webcam (doesn't matter which one I use) and it is picked up and can be used. Not a problem, but when I view the feed, the its laggy and choppy. If I plug in the cam onto my Windows XP or Window 7 installs (on the same laptop), the feed is smooth and has no issues. So I figure it has to be something to do with my settings or configurations. Problem is, I can't seem to find out what I need to tweak to smoothen or improve the feed. I've tried reducing the resolution of the feed to the minimum, but that hasn't helped.

Just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. If I film myself typing at my laptop keyboard, I can see my hands move around the keyboard when I view the footage in Windows, but when I film it in Ubuntu, it's very jumpy, and my hands seem to jump about all over the keyboard -- almost as if something can't keep up.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Microphone's Don't Work Properly - Choppy Or Laggy Sound

Jun 3, 2011

I run ubuntu 10.10 with an 870-g45 motherboard which contains a VIA VT1828S integrated sound chip with 8 audio channels as it states on [URL]... I am having issues with getting microphones to work properly on my computer. Sound output works great but microphones don't. I've noticed when I tested mic's on the sound configuration it would act like it gets input but it would be choppy or laggy sound. Anytime i talk to people on voice chat they say my voice sounds like it keeps clipping in and out and they can't understand a thing I say. I have tried looking on google but any fix I looked at didn't seem to work for me. I don't know if it's motherboard related

Ubuntu Multimedia :: SKYPE : Can't Receive Webcam Feed / Enable This?

Feb 15, 2010

My webcam works. It works in Cheese and apparently the person I connect with on skype can see my feed. They claim their webcam works fine, but I can't get their feed: instead, I just get a white box. When I try to test my own webcam, I get a similar white box. I think there's something wrong with the way skype is configured on my laptop, but I can't figure it out.

I'm running ubuntu 9.04 on an acer laptop with an acer crystal eye webcam. I installed skype by downloading the binary directly from the website.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Program / Software Available That Allow To Edit Live Graphical Feed Of Camera?

Apr 6, 2011

I have a Gateway NV53 with a built in webcam. Now my issue is, it DOES work, but is there a program or software available that would allow me to edit the live graphical feed of the camera? For example, on Windows the webcam software allows me to edit the saturation, contrast, brightness, etc the levels of it while I'm giving off a live feed.So while I'm on webcam 0 can basically change the saturation level while I'm on skype and go from live in color to live in black and white? Is there a rogram available to UBuntu that would allow me to do the same thing?SO that if I'm doing a live feed of my webcam I can basically change how much color I am in etc.I'm running ubuntu 10.10 if that matters

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Setting-up System As Remote Desktop To Feed House-wide Audio?

Apr 26, 2010

We're in the final process of building a home, and I had them setup a wiring box where all the coax and cat5 terminates into one closet, which will also house my server. Once we get moved in I'd also like to add speakers in each room to have house-wide music, and ideally I'd like the audio to also run into this box with the master input coming from the server as well.My thought was to setup the server with some basic desktop manager like Fluxbox and use that to drive audio throughout the house, whether it be Pandora, Sirius Radio, or whatever. Since the server will be headless I'll need it setup so we can remote into it from our laptops, but I wasn't sure if VNC or some other RDP variant would work. Ideally we'll need to access a unified desktop so traditional terminal services where each users gets their own desktop might not be ideal

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Choppy Sound In 10.04 / Resolve This?

May 15, 2010

i'm having choppy sound in 10.04. i didn't have it in 9.10 and i don't know enough about how it works to try to fix it.

here are some things i have noticed, however.

1. the choppy sound is present in a 64bit and 32bit install. at first i thought it may just be a 64bit issue so i reinstalled to 32bit and it is still present.

2. it does not seem to matter what media type i am playing. i notice it most with videos from videos and music from pandora.

3. it seems to occur more often at intense moments of music. i'm not really sure how to describe it, but it is typically the climax of a song where it is a little louder and more intense.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 3D Graphics Are Extremely Choppy

May 15, 2010

I've been browsing through the forums and tried several things, but I haven't found a solution to my problem yet. I have an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop, with an NVIDIA GeForce 7000 M graphics card. For a year I've been using Ubuntu, and with all the versions I've had, through Gutsy to Lynx, I've always found that 3D graphics are extremely choppy. I wouldn't say they are slow...it's more like they move for a couple of seconds, then stop, then move again, then stop. I didn't really care, because I hardly play games: I had initially noticed it trying to get Warcraft 3 to work on Wine, which obviously is an old game, and it runs perfectly on windows...I thought it was just a problem of Wine. But now I've installed Celestia and Flightgear, and with both of them I have this same problem. Flightgear is the worst, it's basically unusable.

I have done several things based upon what I read in the forums. I removed all the NVIDIA drivers, and manually installed the latest propietary driver 195.36.24. I turned off all my desktop effects. I turned on Sync to Vblank to see what would happen. The desktop itself runs very quickly, even the Desktop cube effect, if I turn it on. Like I said before, the problem seems to be this jerkiness with games, with Celestia, and with flightgear. If I get this working, then I'll actually have Ubuntu working completely perfectly, for the FIRST TIME!

I have a 10MB connection on other Linux desktops the streaming video is fine.I imagine it is a flash issue, but I have the latest flash v10.1.The other solution would be a video downloader for streaming video. Feb 14, 2011

I've got a Lenovo T410 with just the onboard intel graphics, with the i7 620m and 10.04 64-bit installed.I've also added the xorg-edgers ppa and installed all the packages from there. When I try to watch a 720p video full-screen in ..... it is unwatchable, just too choppy. I haven't been able to find an answer to this elsewhere. I've tried disabling the hardware acceleration in flash but that does nothing.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Choppy Flash With Radeon HD 4200 And 9.10?

Mar 4, 2010

I'm running an athlon II X2 on a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard Graphics are running on the Radeon HD 4200 on the motherboard. System has 2 GB of RAM. I recently did a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10. I previously had 9.04 installed and flash video ran completely smoothly, and the CPUs wouldn't even come out of 800 MHz power save mode.

Since upgrading to 9.10, flash runs choppy and the CPUs max out every time there is a lot of movement on full screen videos. On 9.04 and 9.10 I was running the ATI proprietary FGLRX hardware drivers. I've tried re-installing the ATI drivers and flash. I've also disabled compiz desktop effects.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Choppy After Upgrade To Lucid

What I know of my hardware specs are in my sig. I have "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended]" activated (and in fact, one of my reasons for upgrading was the supposedly improved NVIDIA drivers in Lucid). VLC, MPlayer and Totem are all choppy playing .avi's: they play smoothly for several seconds, then start skipping (audio and visual, separately), though VLC does so less violently than the others. Similar problems, though slightly less severe, with watching flash movies in chromium.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio (ASLA) Is Choppy - VirtualBox

Dec 4, 2010

I am having audio issues in my host operating system (Ubuntu 10.10 64bit) when running my Virtual machine (Windows Server 2008 R2) through VirtualBox. At the moment I need the virtual machine to run all the time my issue comes when trying to play a movie on the host OS, video is fine but audio is choppy to the point of not understanding what is being said.

I used gstreamer to test the audio outputs while the VM was running, ALSA is choppy but Pulseaudio is clear. I then change VLC to pulseaudio and I get no output what so ever. The VM does not need sound so I have it disabled in VirtualBox's settings (I have tried enabled, same issue).
