I have a nokia phone with symbian. I installed the divx player and sample videos are ok, but when I try to encode other videos I get no sound.
I tried to recode a working with avidemux and it stoped working.

I'm able to get HDMI audio/video perfectly when I'm playing a dvd on mythbuntu. However, If I try to play the ripped version or any other video that is on the hard drive, I get no Audio?
I've checked alsamixer to make sure the device isn't muted.
If I use vlc media player I don't have any audio either. Is there a way to enable hdmi audio as default?
I am having a little problem with my flash player, the video plays fine but I can't get any sound. The sound card works properly with any other application, such as Amarok, but not with flash videos and my hardware is mostly Intel witch is linux-friendly from what I know, so I guess that it isn't a driver problem. Therefore, I switched from windows to linux only a couple days ago, so it may be a newbie issue as well.

I've been playing around with the latest RC of 11.4. Overall, it works great, but just have 1 issue. No flash videos have audio. Video works just fine. I've tried installing both the flash-player package so that it loads the official 32-bit plugin through ndiswrapper, and tried downloading the Adobe Square 64-bit plugin and installing it. Doesn't make a difference, either way I have working video but not audio. Audio itself on the laptop works with no issues, I listen to Amarok all the time on it. Laptop in question is a Dell Latitude E5500. I've also had Debian Wheezy and Kubuntu 10.10 on here, both had no issues.

I attached some .a/s/s subtitles to the video, and the preview looked great. Encoded the video, and the audio plays like two times faster than the actual video, so by about halfway through the video, the audio is done and im left in silence with the video still going.
I set the video to MPEG-4 AVC, attach .a/s/s subs, leave audio alone, and encode using default option (Single pass-quality quantisizer)

As you can probably see the audio codec is not supported. Is there a way to encode WMV3+wmap with ffmpeg or any other tool in Linux? Windows Media Encoder in Windows is able to encode such files to a supported codec. For example: WMV3+WMA2/WMV2+WMA2, I could then encode it in Linux. I'm trying to find a way to directly encode WMV3+wmap in Linux.
Given that Nokia have bought Trolltech, albeit quite a while ago now, I still can't see any native QT version of Nokia's software suite for their phones. Are there any plans in the coming year for a Linux version of Nokia's PC Suite software?

In the Ubuntu Software Center I find two applications that seem to fit the bill. I need to know which is better or are the complimentary.
Here is my problem. Just installed Ubuntu 10.04 with Rivendell radio automation software built in (RRAbuntu). I installed it on an older machine, an HP XT919 (I know it's a bit older, but everything runs fine EXCEPT)...No audio. Audio was fine when I ran the live CD. I first installed Ubuntu 9.04 and had audio, but it kept locking up. I then installed 10.04 with Rivendell. No audio on CD's, no audio on Videos, nothing. I already ran terminal and raised all the levels in alsamixer. What else may be the problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was watching videos with audio literally minutes ago, and all of the sudden my laptop has absolutely no sound. I have no idea what could have caused it. I just ran a quick update and restarted, didn't fix it. I also went under Preferences > Sound > Hardware and did a speaker test, no sound. What could have possibly happened? Is this a common issue? Is my integrated audio burnt out or something? (No, I don't have mute on.)

I'm encoding to 480p and I was wondering how do I change the setting to make make it encode to X.264 and look good at small or ok file sizes. I will be uploading these to ..... and want them to look sexy.
And if X.264 can't encode to X.264 then at lest how do I turn the quality up in the formats that it does support.
I'm copying an animated TV series from DVD to my computer. The DVDs are encoded at 29.970fps, which I find strange because animation usually uses 23.976fps. Anyway, what I have done is de-interlaced and re-encoded it to H.264. Now it is set to 59.970fps, which I think is higher than what I want. I'm seeking advice on whether I should leave it at that or change it to one of the lower frame rates. Another question: Do you think that I should be encoding to H.263 instead? This is just to have copies of the videos on my hard drive.
Note: I used Avidemux with the Yadif filter using the bob method to de-interlace the film. I think the bob method preserves the actual 60 fields and converts them into complete frames. I'm guessing that the temporal spatial check would halve the frames and give me the 29.970fps.
i've been experiencing an issue with audio playback for certain flash videos that stream from the web. most play smoothly, like the videos at videos. others have this strange background noise that is only present when there is audio (usually on news websites that host their own videos). when there is sound, there is a strange stuttering noise that disappears during the silent pauses.

the videos video at the top plays just fine. if you scroll down and watch the other video in the small box, you'll hear the stuttering. i have fedora 14 kde, adobe flash player 64 bit preview release 3 and rpm fusion codecs installed. the problem is also present in fedora 14 with gnome, same setup. the problematic videos play without the stuttering in ubuntu.
I have a load of XViD videos and I want to re-encode them into x264 - when I say a load, I mean over 300, anyone have any programs they reccomend to do it?I want to make them into those "future-sized movies" (700mb --> 300mb, 170mb --> 95mb, 350mb --> 150mb), what settings should I use? I want to keep the quality of the originals intact, along with the video sizes if possible, but if not, I don't really mind, just make them smaller. I've used it for a while now on 32 bit Ubuntu 9.10 and on 64 bit Windows 7 but since I've upgraded to 10.04 64 bit I can add a video as source and the encode button is grayed out. I cannot start encoding. The version of Handbrake I am using is 0.9.4.Does anyone have any idea how to remedy this issue? I am thinking of trying version 0.9.3 again.

I have been using Avidemux to encode edited video using x264 and the mp4 container for most of my videos. My PCs are not new, using single-core AMD Athlon processors.
In 9.04 and 9.10 (Linux Mint), encoding speeds ranged from 7 to 10 frames per second. In 10.04 these dropped down to less than 2 frames per second.
I booted back into Linux Mint 8 (9.10) and the same video encoded at the previous 7 to 10 fps.
I tried with other videos in different formats (mpeg2 and VOB). The results were the same - 10.04 was extremely slow encoding x264 but Mint 8 was "normal" at 7 to 10 fps.
With a dual-core notebook, however, the encoding speeds ran at 8 to 14 fps in 10.04.
Was 10.04 optimized for dual and multi-core at the expense of single-core? If so, is there a way to restore "single-core optimization"?
I'm trying to encode a video using only one image during a complete audio file, but a can't find the way to do it. What I need to do is to extend the duration of the frame up to the duration of the audio file. How do I do that with mencoder?

I am using 11.2, KDE 4.3.5 with Grip and Flac to rip and encode CDs. Two questions:- Have read flac -help and do not understand the -o option which is used in a few example threads. The man page suggests that -o should be used with subsequent parameters such as --output_name=FILENAME for example. In the example posts this general option is used on its own. What for?
The installation when first used, already had a string of options including --best on the command line. I cannot find any documentation for this. I assume it is a preset in the same way as for example --preset extreme in lame.
here's some background info: purchased a brand new netbook last week (samsung n130) and thought i'd set up a dual-boot to accompany the pre-installed windows xp sp3, and after a bit of research i decided upon installing ubuntu as my preferred linux os, which i believe at the time was and still is version 10.10.
but the problem is: when i attempt to watch flash videos (from videos for example) the video streams fine, but the audio is very jumpy and skips back and forth every few seconds. occasionally there are periods of say 10-15 seconds where the audio is ok. the problem exists on both firefox and chrome, and is exclusive to ubuntu. keep in mind that i'm an absolute novice when it comes to linux/ubuntu, etc.

Sound for a DVD is normally encoded with AC3. I encountered some cases where the encoded sound was badly distorted. As it seems, the default for the input changed to float at some point. The fix for this is to use:
