I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 by doing a reformat and fresh install from the cd. I have an old dell inspiron 1000 with a 2.26ghz centrino and SiS integrated video chipset.It used to run flash player playing 360p ..... clips in fullscreen very smoothly and better than my windows 7 install but with 10.04 it is doing about 1 frame every 5 sec.

Whenever I play flash video or a video in VLC the pictures seems "choppy" and slow as if it was laggy. What could be causing this? I am guessing its a video issue? Maybe something todo with refresh rates and stuff like that.
i'm in 64 bit kubuntu, with the the nswrapper in 10.10http://www.metacafe.comin firefox i get the sound but not the video in metacafe, when the video is unblocked by flash block. Others have the same problem?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn my office PC with Intel Core i5 x4 / 8GB RAM / Intel's in-CPU video card / Opensuse 11.4 adobe flash is very slow it is impossible to watch fullscreen ..... videos even in 480p. But on my home PC everything is just fine and CPU is AMD Athlon II 645 x3 - it is much slower... video card is ATI 5770 with AMD's proprietary drivers. May be Intel's on-CPU video card is slowing down flash video playback? Or may be i need to install other video drivers?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two Ubuntus installed. A 10.04 and a 9.04. In 9.04 if I watch a video in Firefox, it works very smoothly and nicely. Using the "top" command, totem-plugin-vi is using the most cpu time at about 16%, and xorg is using about 5%. But in 10.04, totem is using 72% and xorg is using 26%, and it looks really choppy. I think watching DVDs is the same way. I checked "Hardware Drivers" in the System->Administration menu (in 10.04) and it said "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system." I'm guessing maybe I'm using different video drivers on each system, but I don't even know how to check. and here is an excerpt from lspci:

I want to do a stop-motion but I cannot find a program that has all the option I want and that is useable for me. I tried with Kdenlive that has all the option I want, but when I want to see the preview of my video, it lagged at every new image.Is there a format, a way to configure kdenlive or something else that would make it easier for my computer. Or even another program that do what I want but is less demanding then Kdenlive.All I want is to put picture one after the other, adjust the time they appear and add some text and sound.

The problem seems to be a cross-browser issue, today I did an informal test of various sites I frequently use on both Mozilla Firefox and Chrome. When playing some HD files Mplayer video is slow compare to sound. Totem plays the same videos with perfect synchronization of voice and video. I have tried all video drivers in Mplayer none seems to work.My version of mplayer is : MPlayer SVN-r31918 (C) 2000-2010 MPlayer TeamRunning Squeeze.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed 10.04 in a Dell Dimension 3000 for my father. It's a nice upgrade from the old Pentium 3, except for graphics it seems. I tried playing a video I recorded on my phone. Movie player(totem) appears to play the video, but instead shows a blank screen. Moving the window, minimizing, ect. shows a frame or two, but that's it. Converting to OGG, and turning off compix does nothing. I installed VLC and now the video plays but in slow motion. Sound works great in both. I'm not sure if it's an Intel graphics thing or what, but it's pretty bad when ..... plays better then local video.
BTW not sure if it's related but it also seems to have a problem coming out of suspend.
My friends and I are into freerunning/parkour (look it up if you don't know it : D) and we like to make videos sometimes. Slow motion is a MUST.
The problem is, I haven't been able to find any good video editors for linux. I've just been using windows movie maker when it comes to editing, but I haven't been able to find anything on linux that really allows slowmo.
I tried Openshot video editor and LiVES video editor, but they've both been no luck. Open shot allows you to play a clip at half speed. This is fine, except it doesn't adjust the timeline accordingly, so clips get cut off when they're only part of the way through, and I can't seem to adjust the timeline to get it to work. And as far as LiVES, I haven't been able to find the "effects" button, or anything that allows you to do stuff to clips.
Its no secret that flash video performance is sub-par in Ubuntu. I have a Zotac Mag HD ND01 that I have connected to my 40" LCD tv and have a minimal Ubuntu 9.10 installed running openbox and firefox/boxee/xbmc
My primary use for running a web browser is so I could watch live streaming hockey games in HD. However, thanks to Flash's performance (and yes, i've tried the latest versions, even the 091510 version in labs) in full screen mode, watching hockey is not possible because its way too choppy.
Now, on my desktop computer in my office, I can watch the same stream without issue. So, my question is, is there any way to take this live stream (which is using Flowplayer), and re-encode it on-the-fly so I can stream it to my htpc in a format it likes (such as MKV i guess, it can play 720p/1080p mkv files without issue)?
My desktop is a Core i7 920 overclocked to 4.2Ghz with 6GB DDR3 ram, so I would hope its powerful enough for the cause. Also, the desktop is running Windows 7 64bit and Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on a dual boot, so a method in either is fine.
Since upgrading to 11.04 i haven't been able to watch any flash video.Any websites that feature flash prompt me to install or upgrade my flash player.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 11.04, have 4GB of Memory, and an AMD Phenom II X4 840 Quad Core processor.When I play Hulu Desktop the video is choppy.Now, the odd thing is that I had this problem before. It's the whole reason I upgraded my processor. When I upgraded I noticed an improvement, but it was still a little choppy. I then went to the Adobe site and got the latest version of Flash, and lo and behold, I could watch Hulu Desktop on HD quality with no problem!
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Latitude CPi that has 400MHz Intel Processor and 256 MB of ram. It has a Neomagic Corporation NM2360 [MagicMedia 256ZX]. I have it set to 16 bit color depth and it is using the neomagic driver. My problem is that it cannot play any video of any size flash, or saved to hard drive. It has a fps so low that I can see it rendering each frame going across the screen. It doesn't seem to have a problem with animated pictures, just actual video files. I don't know whether or not this matters but the card set is known to not support 3d acceleration. I can run any commands in terminal and have a good understanding of the linux environment. This problem has occurred under Ubuntu and Xubuntu and still happens if I use a light weight WM like fluxbox.

I have gotten Ubuntu configured to play the video and sound but I cant figure out a way to keep playing when I close the lid. Every time I do that it goes black. Also when I re-open it the laptop display is blank as well and will not come back on.
Under the power option when lid closed all it offers is

Suspend
Hibernate
shut down
In Windows I had a "do nothing"
Anyway to do this in Ubuntu?
i've noticed a problem this morning when watching bbc flash videos on firefox (3.6). whilst the video is playing, firefox is fine and new tabs can be opened. but once you close the tab or window where the video was, firefox freezes and has to force quit. other flash video sites like videos, cnn, sky news, guardian and flash games seem okay and firefox doesn't freeze. bbc videos seem okay on firefox on winxp too. the bbc problem occurs on news video and on iplayer vids.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Kubuntu 10.04 and found out that there is no sound for flash in firefox. Also I here no sound when playing local video files (VLC, KMPlayer).
I checked kMix and everything is on. I tried to install pulseaudio, but I am not sure about it. Last time I saw it couldnt connect to some server or what... Although I can hear system sound and Amarok 2 plays mp3. I didnt mention that I tried to install libflashplugin and kubuntu restricted extras.
I watch alot of news videos and within 1 - 2 minutes the video and audio become out of sync. The video is lagging the audio. I'm using 10.10 32 bit with Shock Flash 10.1 r102 on Firefox. Will the 10.2 beta flash fix this problem?

When I put my mouse where where the "play/pause" button should be I can click there and they work, but its all white. Flash in chrome works just fine, I use regular ubuntu repos. One weird thing is that ..... videos work perfectly when tagged/embedded in another site, such as facebook or a gmail chat, but on the ..... official site I can't see a thing.

Audio works just fine on other applications so I'm guessing this might be a permission's issue or setting of some sort? I also have: flashplugin-installer 11.0.1.60~110713-ppa0~lucid & flashplugin-nonfree 11.0.1.60~110713-ppa0~lucid installed with ALSA v1.0.24.2.
View 6 Replies View RelatedA relative of mine who uses Debian 6.0.2 has bought a Samsung HMX-H300 Camcorder which records videos in:
1. H.264 (MPEG4 part10/AVC) format
2. High Definition Video (HD-VIDEO)
3. Standard Definition Video.
I notice that the PC requirement for the camcorder's bundled software, apart from the usual Windows XP SP2/Vista/Windows 7, lists an Intel Core Duo 1.66 minimum CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 or higher or ATI HD 2600 series or higher.
My relative has an old Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.30GHz computer which only has an AGP GeForce FX 5200 but after copying the videos from the Memory Card to /home it is just about possible to play them using Totem Movie Player and VLC but, although the audio is OK the video is painfully slow or almost stationary.
Is there a way to view the videos recorded in these formats with this hardware? Can they be converted to another format? Or should he consider buying a better computer?
Playback works fine but its really juddering and not very smooth compared to windows. I have installed all the latest updates, ATI drivers and the restricted codec pack. I am using the standard video player that comes with Ubuntu.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am like almost everyone, watching videos on ..... and I am having problems with flash. When I put a video on - even if high definition or not I still get a studder from flash. The video plays but it keeps chopping up and you can see on some frames how the next frame moves on the bottom of the screen and the previous frame is still stuck on the top. Flash does not run smoothly at all - that is on every video. I am suppose to be on the latest flash version for linux off of addobe.
