I want to record some streaming internet radio talk shows and music performances on NPR, and I'm wondering what my options are in Ubuntu. I'm looking for something that can output high quality lossless files in several formats, hopefully including mp3 and ogg.
View 6 RepliesI am fed up of listening to my (Windows XP) gaming computer through headphones so I want to get it hooked to the stereo.
Rather than use a heck of a lot of wire, I can sit my Ubuntu 9.10 netbook on top of the stereo and stream the audio across WiFi.
So, ideally what I am after is something to capture the outgoing audio on the Windows computer, stream it across the wifi to the Ubuntu netbook and finally play it through the speakers.
Is there any way to record/capture live streaming video/audio from a website?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThere is an internet page that displays streaming videos (TV shows) that are not detected by most Windows and Linux downloading software: Orbit, Replay Media Catcher (Windows) or Video Downloader, Downloadhelper, etc in Linux (ubuntu)
In Windows the only program that I managed to do the job with is "Stream Transport", and got .mp4 files that I could watch later.But I don't have windows anymore, it is corrupted. In ubuntu, however, the many firefox add-ons, stand alone programs that I tested, don't see the video file. In the source of the page I don't understand anything, everything is concealed under javascript text... The video is not saved in the firefox cache.
How can I capture it? Does anybody know how to deal with this kind of well-concealed video files?In theory, it should be possible to record everything that comes into the machine, but how?
P.S. By TRICKY I mean something non-standard (not ....., dailymotion, etc).
How I would capture on-screen audio AND my webcam audio at the same time.(My webcam seems to rely on pulse).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI haven't gotten an answer from Second Life fora so I thought I'd ask here. I'm using Ubuntu (lucid) x86_64. Totem, Rhythmbox etc all work correctly but I fail to get any streaming audio from any of the Second Life clients I've tried. In some cases I can copy the media url into rhythmbox and run the sound from there but in most cases the url is "hidden".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need my Ubuntu box to play an http audio stream on boot. It must heedlessly attempt to reconnect to the audio stream no matter how many network errors I may or may not have.
Currently using VLC on boot with the commands: -loop -http-reconnect
VLC works fine for the first little while, but after a day or two, it doesn't try to reconnect enough to meet my needs.
I'm looking for configuring a Ubuntu box, we need to capture alsa output into ffmpeg with jack or OSS but not pulseaudio, as that tends to glitch badly. We have things working, but we are sort of hacking around in the dark, we play music, but as we aren't linux audio experts ourselves.

now i got a laptop (lucid) which i usually use to watch streaming contents (videos and all) and play music (local and internet radio). i like to stream all of my audio (not video) to the deskop so i can use my home theatre speaker for the purpose.

Have any of the main music streaming sites (ex. Pandora, Rhapsody, Grooveshark, etc.) made it possible to stream audio without using flash, (other than via iPhone apps)? Have any of them made any strides with regard to implementing html5 functionality?
I know html5 will make more options available for streaming audio over the web, but I have not seen or used html5 for anything yet. The only method that I know of for streaming audio without flash, although I haven't tried it, is via html5 video on ...... This is certainly a suboptimal method for streaming music since the audio quality cannot be guaranteed and is likely mediocre. Nonetheless, I've heard that it works. Also, as a second unrelated question, are there any open source flash players that you guys have used to stream audio from these music sites? I tried a group of different players like Gnash about 6 months ago and failed to stream Pandora or Grooveshark.
I need to capture from my webcam. It has a mic too.I can specify video input device as /dev/video0.I specified input audio device as /dev/dsp2 ( OSS device, corresponding to USB Webcam), Now VLC throws an error, "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/dsp2'. Check the log for details".Thinking it wants an alsa device, I specify device as /dev/snd/pcmC2D0c. (got it from kinfocenter and dolphin). Now again an error, "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/snd/pcmC2D0c'. Check the log for details.".I try with any device, the same error. I have added myself to audio device so that I can read/write to the mentioned devices.I see no way of switching VLC to use OSS. And I see no information (documentation on net) on it's expected device listing for audio.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed openSUSE 11.4-64bit on my Gateway desktop, and I can't seem to get my mic work at all. The mic is built into my Microsoft LifeCam Cinema webcam and works fine when I boot into Windows. The mic will not record sound in krecord or lame and doesn't work during Skype sessions.
According to the literature for the device driver my the mic should be supported, and that is evidenced by the fact that the mic shows up as a capture device in in kmix. I have made this mic the master channel under capture devices and I have given it highest preference amongst my capture devices in both the Communications and Accessibility categories of kmix's Settings/Audio Setup.

I've done my best to implement these fixes, but half of it looks like gibberish to me. All I was really able to do was update my alsa software and generate this comprehensive alsa.conf (its long, so I'll wait to post it until asked).
I've had since updating to 11.4, and I gotta say: I've been really impressed so far.
ok i upgraded to 10.04 lucid and now if i want to stream audio i get jerky audio with screen flickers and video streaming or not causes a complete lockup of the application. this all worked fine with 9.10.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have configured PulseAudio with an MPD system-wide as I want to run PulseAudio without an X-Window Server environment, as I'm going to let my netbook act as a "wireless speaker" for espeak to speak out; thus, minimizing the expense of getting a "whole-apartment audio equipment." This is something that I can figure this out, as I have configured PulseAudio to act as a sender by having a separate RTP stream when I configure it in a VNC client.
Plus, I want my Windows Vista 64-Bit machine to receive the output from PulseAudio. I did download the Windows version of PulseAudio from Cendio, but I have problems getting PulseAudio to work, even if I added load-module module-rtp-recv to default.pa in the PulseAudio directory that I installed in PulseAudio directory. I get error after error messages when I run pulseaudio.exe, so it looks to me that it's not going to work anyway.
So I deleted the entire PulseAudio directory. It said something about entropy that I did not know anything about it. So anyway, is there some sort of a server program that listens to PulseAudio output and then send that audio to the client? The server program in the Ubuntu Server (that I plan to use as a sender) must be able to run without an X-Window environment. Is this possible?
I tried to do a search when it comes to streaming audio from Linux to Windows, but the Google search result came up with "Streaming audio/sound from Windows to Linux" which did not turn out very well for me. As a result, I have no luck with doing a Google search for what I'm looking for. In short, is there some kind of daemon that listens for audio and distribute the sound to Windows? It will be for my internal network only.
I achieved to create a stream of the audio output of my sound card. ices2 and icecast2. I receive it with an internet radio device (NOXON). Works alright, but the volume is far too low.

From what I've read, an OS/media player will tend to "resample" audio frequencies at the software/soundcard level before sending it, and from what I gather, that isn't a perfect 1-to-1 copy of my audio to my speaker. My equipment:
Ubuntu: 11.04 x64
Mobo (integrated sound): ASUS P5QL-CM - S/PDIF out on Intel G45 chipset / VT1708B, 8-Channel High-Definition Audio CODEC
AV receiver: Onkyo HT-R380 (PDF manual)
Speakers: Stereo (connected to 'A' ouput on AVR) - Acoustic Research Red Box II (circa early 90s)
I have the ASUS S/PDIF 'addon' and I have Ubuntu set to send audio through that. I think "bit streaming" is what I am after but I am at a loss as to how to make it happen.
So I got myself a USB capture card (EasyCap) to use for capturing gaming, digitizing my kids' old VHS movies, etc. It works fine, I've been using VLC to view and record stuff from it, but I've noticed one issue. When recording streams via VLC, even with no other programs running to give VLC as much CPU time as it wants, the audio slowly falls out of sync. I've tried the MP4 (H264/MP3) container and the OGG (Vorbis/Theora) container.
Early on you can't hardly tell, but the further into a movie you get the more out of sync the audio gets, so that by the end of the movie the audio is a good 1-2 seconds off. It's not a set amount either so I can't just split the audio to a separate file then shift it one direction or the other to make up for the difference, because like I said, the offset starts out at nothing and gets progressively larger as the movie goes on. When I select "display locally", the video/audio that is displayed stays in sync, only the video/audio that gets committed to the output file falls out of sync, and it doesn't matter if I play the file with Totem or VLC.
I'm trying to capture my desktop screen and audio , before I used xvidcap but after upgrading my system I can not use it and also recordmydesktop anymore these APPs hanged when I try to use them.Now I try to use recorditnow via ffmpeg recorder interface , it work properly in recording the desktop but it does not record the sound , so I tried to add below options to its command -f alsa -ac 2 -i hw:0,0 but it just record sound at the beginning and just for 1 second. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a small problem with Banshee that I need some help with, if possible. I'm currently using the latest version of Ubuntu 11.04 and it's up to date. The problem i'm having is with Banshee playing music files over my DAAP share. My DAAP server is running Firefly (mt-daapd), and Banshee can see the server and shares just fine. It loads the song list from the server, but when I select a song to play it just sits there. Rhythmbox works just fine, sees the share and plays the songs ok (which is what i've fallen back to for the moment), so I know it's not a hardware or software problem from the sound "system".
Other features of Banshee play just fine, including internet radio stations, internet archives, and importing songs from the server (which makes the song local instead of networked from a single source). Ok, so streaming from the DAAP share isn't working; here's the output from the terninal I started Banshee from:

I'm using openSUSE 11.2 KDE on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 1536 laptop. My problem is that my microphone (I'm attempting to use a 3.5mm headset) doesn't work. Audio playback however does work through the built-in speakers and headphones.
I have gone through the SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE as suggested by oldcpu on the Welcome to multimedia sub-area sticky.

I was recently turned on to grooveshark by a friend and I would like to capture a couple of the songs from there. I was told about cplayer by someone but I'm not sure if it does that/ has that feature. Also, I read that cplayer uses some other way of using the hardware on my computer (there's a name for it but I don't remember). I'm worried about putting something on here and having problems with sound with other things on my computer too.
Basically I'd just like to find something I can use to do this though. Something easy to use.

I am watching streaming video via Firefox and Flash player. The data rates are too slow so I am getting choppy audio and video. How do I download the clip so I can play it back later. The video is coming from a tourism web site.

Since I'm using Firefox I'm guessing I can't look in my local cache. Is there any way to find it?They might block you if you're not in Japan. View 5 Replies View Relatedi have opensuse 11.3 (64-bit) installed. kde version. my sound card is a creative labs sound blaster x-fi xtreme audio, pcie interface. i am able to listen to cd music without any problems but i am unable to get streaming audio when i visit any internet radio site, videos, yahoo!tv, etc. etc. for instance, when i visit videos, the video part is ok but i cannot hear anything through the speakers. something similar happens when for instance i go to [url] and select any of the music channels. a new window pops up but the music never even starts to stream.
i know for a fact that both sound card and speakers work fine because i've tested them with windows xp. so there must be some setting in opensuse that i've missed. the weird part is that i can listen to music cds without any problems...
What is the best analogue capture program please to capture Austar.
