ok i upgraded to 10.04 lucid and now if i want to stream audio i get jerky audio with screen flickers and video streaming or not causes a complete lockup of the application. this all worked fine with 9.10.
View 9 Replieswhen i play streaming video in any browser (tried firefox, chrome, opera, and midori), the playback is severely and unwatchably choppy. sometimes it'll be ok for a few seconds and then devolve into choppiness, but usually it's just choppy right off the bat. the audio is just fine, by the way.the odd thing is, videos works just fine, but only if i stick to 360p. anything higher yields the same results. downloaded videos work just fine as well. i've noticed this on vevo.com, cracked.com, and southparkstudios.com. (my age is showing! ) i just tested it on an html5 video from the html5 site and that worked just fine, as well, so i think this is a flash-specific problem.
right now i'm using xubuntu maverick, but i've used both lucid and maverick of xubuntu and ubuntu netbook remix (all 32-bit). i'm using a lenovo ideapad s10-2 (a netbook), and the video card is intel gma 950. i can get more specific if necessary. i've tried both the open source and non-free versions of flash (latest versions, of course) with no difference. i even tried uninstalling flash and using chrome's built-in flash plugin, also with no difference.
We have a Jetway JBC600C99-52W-B (Mini-top) with Xubuntu 10.10 and Logitech Z-205 USB Speakers but I have no sound. EDIT: fixed after installing gnome-volume-control and selecting my output device. Now i have a other problem, when i stream a video it plays sound for 1 second and when i click the play button it works fine for a while but after a few minutes the audio stops again. the video plays fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the nvidia sound card built into my motherboard. Just a few hours ago it started to just stop making any noises what so ever. I rebooted but to no avail. I finally was able to find a fix by purging pulse AND alsa, then reinstalling them and rebooting. The problem is this will only allow my sound to work for about 10-15 mins. Kinda hard to watch "'Neath the Arizona Sky" if you gotta reboot every 15 minutes or so...
I have also purge and reinstalled ubuntu-desktop and that will work temporarily and extend me out another 10-15 mins from when it stopped, but then I still have to reboot.
I am using 10.10 Maverick 64 bit and have been using it for a while, this is the first time this or any other problem has occured.
I have been through the forums and checked every thread I could find with a Bingle search that was in any way related to random sound stoppage. I have tried most of them (did not try the ones that were specific to other cards as far as editing the .conf's for those cards)
I've been running F12 x86_64 for almost a week now without significant issues, until now. I found this annoying problem with the audio system during video playback (both with VLC and with Kaffeine).It happens after a while playing a video: sound just stops (video continues). I found that sound is not dead though (can open Rhythmbox and music sounds).I discovered some system messages in /var/log/messages regarding this (attached).What could be happening
View 1 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 64bit. The sound system works and plays noises correctly when I test the speakers in sound preferances. The internet BBCi player(Radio) plays sound correctly. Banshee & Rhythmbox try to play music files at double, or more, speed with no sound output. Spotify Linux version also tries to playback at double speed with no sound output. Media Player attempts to play music files at high speed. Media player plays the Video and audio tracks at high speed. VLC Will play the video at normal speed but with no audio.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a gigabyte MB/rig connected to Svideo out on my TV. I have external PC speakers connected to my sound card. For some reason when I go to play video, streaming audio, or streaming video I get no sound. I go into alsamixer via CLI and all is unmuted. I reboot, sound is back. The next day I load boxee, no sound. It's not just boxee when I have no sound. If I close boxee and open vlc and stream online radio, I get no sound either. Reboot, sound is back. No external errors of hardware conflicts either.
Running Ubuntu 10.04, 64bit , kernel 2.6.32-24-generic
whenever I stream music to my Xbox 360, no matter what I use to stream it, it will stop halfway through and only start up again when the next songs begins to play. So far I've tested this on Twonky Media Server, uShare, and PS3 Media Server and all produce the same results. I'm running 9.10 and uShare at the moment.
View 9 Replies View Relatedrunning ubuntu 8.04 dual boot with windows- need windows for avery label program, ibm via voice and access data base .chose 8.04 because of long term support. firefox is now unstable and does not do streaming video ' audio.[ustream in particular and others] usually i get the video but not the audio. sometimes the fox just closes and i can open it on the second try- sometimes not. skype does work. there may be a fix for the audio using libflash support program. where to get this& what to do with it is a problem.
perhaps it would be prudent to upgrade to 10.04 but this seems to be a work in progress and might lead me into further problems. on the other hand i could work up to ubuntu 9.10 if it would be more likely to work better the get to 10.04 when it is further along. i am pretty useless with the command line.on the whole ubuntu has worked well until this problem came up.
So I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and then to 10.04, and I love it!
But there's only one key problem -- sound playback.
When I'm playing an mp3 file in rhythmbox, or any other player, it'll skip when I maximize or minimize windows, or do anything that really uses resources.
And on top of that, if I just let it keep going, it'll eventually just stop playing the song, and the progress bar will jump forward and do the same for other songs, not even playing them.

I've deduced that it's probably a sound driver thing. I've downloaded the driver for my card, but I the directions tell me to install it in
/usr/src/linux/driver/sound

Running Fedora 13 - 64 bits - cpu AMD Phenom II X2 955 (dual core) flat, no overclocking, no hacking of any kind. I've tried a re-install of all media codecs and plugins. The problem persists since fresh install of Fedora.

I've been having a problem with intermittent stuttering in video and audio playback since upgrading to Maverick (it also happened when I briefly installed Lucid). It started out as the odd skip every 20 minutes or so but now it can happen 5 or 6 times in 10 minutes when watching a film. I've tried:
reformatting and clean installing using a half-dozen players installing every codec I could think of (only after the normal ones wouldn't help) diangosing my 3 hard drives (the problem occurs on them all and they're not in a RAID setup) changing then changing back my video drivers disabling pulseaudio and ubuntuone-sync (these were not installed in my previous, working setup) looking at every relevant log file (mplayer, smplayer, demsg...) I know of running ubuntu's testing utilities I'm out of ideas. Going back to Jaunty is the only solution I'm pretty sure will work but it's not exactly ideal. It will be a few months a least before I'm able to install a completely new distro.
When I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).
I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.
Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?
video playback is like I have applied a blueish sepia filter over it. And this is just the playback from totem player or mplayer, and not the playback from ..... I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:
- No audio via HDMI see [URL]
- Video resolution seems to change during video playback
- Channels cannot be found via DVB-S [URL]
As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.
Alltogether I have the following setup:
- AMD 5050e CPU
- 8 GByte RAM
- Biostar TA890GXE
- Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI)
- Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed
- Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)
Now, here is the problem:
Whenever I playback any video material using e.g. VLC, the screen resolution changes. This also applies when playback the video in a window and not fullscreen. The problem is that whenever the screen resolution changes, short time later the TV set blanks screen and show the TV set specific information "unsupported video mode".
How can I enforce to stay in the configured video mode?

Totem, Rhythmbox etc all work correctly but I fail to get any streaming audio from any of the Second Life clients I've tried. In some cases I can copy the media url into rhythmbox and run the sound from there but in most cases the url is "hidden".

Currently using VLC on boot with the commands: -loop -http-reconnect
VLC works fine for the first little while, but after a day or two, it doesn't try to reconnect enough to meet my needs.

Have any of the main music streaming sites (ex. Pandora, Rhapsody, Grooveshark, etc.) made it possible to stream audio without using flash, (other than via iPhone apps)? Have any of them made any strides with regard to implementing html5 functionality?
I know html5 will make more options available for streaming audio over the web, but I have not seen or used html5 for anything yet. The only method that I know of for streaming audio without flash, although I haven't tried it, is via html5 video on ...... This is certainly a suboptimal method for streaming music since the audio quality cannot be guaranteed and is likely mediocre. Nonetheless, I've heard that it works. Also, as a second unrelated question, are there any open source flash players that you guys have used to stream audio from these music sites? I tried a group of different players like Gnash about 6 months ago and failed to stream Pandora or Grooveshark.
I've been tweaking my kernel for RT performance over the past few days, and just recently, it's begun randomly cutting sound playback, and I can't seem to figure out why.
Was watching a movie last night using VLC, and about 5 minutes in, sound playback just totally stopped while video kept working. Sound driver in VLC was set to Pulseaudio. I switched it to ALSA and the problem seemed fixed.
In Decibel Audio Player, the tracks randomly just stop in the middle of a song occasionally (every 5 songs or so, give or take), and a little red 'X' appears next to the track that got "skipped." Screenshot:

I have configured PulseAudio with an MPD system-wide as I want to run PulseAudio without an X-Window Server environment, as I'm going to let my netbook act as a "wireless speaker" for espeak to speak out; thus, minimizing the expense of getting a "whole-apartment audio equipment." This is something that I can figure this out, as I have configured PulseAudio to act as a sender by having a separate RTP stream when I configure it in a VNC client.
Plus, I want my Windows Vista 64-Bit machine to receive the output from PulseAudio. I did download the Windows version of PulseAudio from Cendio, but I have problems getting PulseAudio to work, even if I added load-module module-rtp-recv to default.pa in the PulseAudio directory that I installed in PulseAudio directory. I get error after error messages when I run pulseaudio.exe, so it looks to me that it's not going to work anyway.
So I deleted the entire PulseAudio directory. It said something about entropy that I did not know anything about it. So anyway, is there some sort of a server program that listens to PulseAudio output and then send that audio to the client? The server program in the Ubuntu Server (that I plan to use as a sender) must be able to run without an X-Window environment. Is this possible?
I tried to do a search when it comes to streaming audio from Linux to Windows, but the Google search result came up with "Streaming audio/sound from Windows to Linux" which did not turn out very well for me. As a result, I have no luck with doing a Google search for what I'm looking for. In short, is there some kind of daemon that listens for audio and distribute the sound to Windows? It will be for my internal network only.
I achieved to create a stream of the audio output of my sound card. ices2 and icecast2. I receive it with an internet radio device (NOXON). Works alright, but the volume is far too low.

From what I've read, an OS/media player will tend to "resample" audio frequencies at the software/soundcard level before sending it, and from what I gather, that isn't a perfect 1-to-1 copy of my audio to my speaker. My equipment:
Ubuntu: 11.04 x64
Mobo (integrated sound): ASUS P5QL-CM - S/PDIF out on Intel G45 chipset / VT1708B, 8-Channel High-Definition Audio CODEC
AV receiver: Onkyo HT-R380 (PDF manual)
Speakers: Stereo (connected to 'A' ouput on AVR) - Acoustic Research Red Box II (circa early 90s)
I have the ASUS S/PDIF 'addon' and I have Ubuntu set to send audio through that. I think "bit streaming" is what I am after but I am at a loss as to how to make it happen.
