Another problem I'm having is that when I turn the volume past 60% using the sound applet on the panel, it gets very distorted. If I open sound preferences, I notice it is in the "amplified" zone at this point, so I have to keep it in the "unamplified" zone, but then it's not loud enough.

when i play streaming video in any browser (tried firefox, chrome, opera, and midori), the playback is severely and unwatchably choppy. sometimes it'll be ok for a few seconds and then devolve into choppiness, but usually it's just choppy right off the bat. the audio is just fine, by the way.the odd thing is, videos works just fine, but only if i stick to 360p. anything higher yields the same results. downloaded videos work just fine as well. i've noticed this on vevo.com, cracked.com, and southparkstudios.com. (my age is showing! ) i just tested it on an html5 video from the html5 site and that worked just fine, as well, so i think this is a flash-specific problem.
right now i'm using xubuntu maverick, but i've used both lucid and maverick of xubuntu and ubuntu netbook remix (all 32-bit). i'm using a lenovo ideapad s10-2 (a netbook), and the video card is intel gma 950. i can get more specific if necessary. i've tried both the open source and non-free versions of flash (latest versions, of course) with no difference. i even tried uninstalling flash and using chrome's built-in flash plugin, also with no difference.
I'm running Karmic Koala 64 bit on my Lenovo T400 laptop with switchable graphics having both Intel and ATI video cards. I've set my bios to use the intel card only and turned the automatic switching off. So far so good, but I'd like to turn on compiz for basic window animations. When I try to start compiz by selecting

doesn't show any new drivers that could be installed. This was working out of the box when I first installed Karmic Koala a few month ago, but things got messed up when I installed the restricted drivers for my ATI card. Now I can enable compiz if I switch to ATI from my bios settings and install the drivers but I don't want to use it due to high power consumption and I've removed the ATI drivers.

I have a ubuntu desktop running 9.04 and a Acer Netbook running UNR 9.04.Using NFS I have shared my videos from the desktop and have it automounted at start up on the netbook. I can navigate to the files but once I click play, the netbook locks up.Is this a limitation on my hardware or is there a better way to "stream" these vids?

Some videos in 720p I can watch perfectly, while others start crashing after 1 minute..They are mostly in MKV, which from what I understand, it's just a container for the video/audio and can be in several formats. I know that VLC has the Transcode feature, and I'd like to use that to transcode the videos to a video Codec that requires the least CPU processing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).
I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.
Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?
i have searched the forum but can't find the solution for stalling network in the middle of something. i have to restart the computer. i cannot rely ubuntu for 24 hours non-stop small server. the stalling problem occurs when I start pulling/downloading via samba or sftp (smb:// or sftp://) from another computers/device (like wdtv). when i check the lenovo, all internet connecetion is dead. ifconfig shows the ip but it just dead.

I looked on google for some answers and saw that the Broadcom STA driver may be missing so when I tried to install it through Synaptic Package Manager it said that it was already installed. When I click on the wireless icon, it says under wireless that the device is not ready and I can't connect to any wireless networks, even if the SSID is not hidden. I am confused as I already have the driver and all the system updates but it still won't work.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an hp 110 mini running 10.10 laptop (not netbook. i prefer the laptop desktop). i use firefox as my default browser. i find that i must always scroll and center web pages with embedded video (e.g. videos), and even then, i may not see the entire video frame (off the page top and bottom)
i know i can "open up" the usable area of firefox with add-ons (but haven't done it yet). are there any other ways, either through ubuntu screen settings, firefox settings, or flash settings, to shrink or adjust the default video frame size on the page? or is this simply one of the limitations of a netbook i will have to deal with?
I am trying to record a test video with my built-in webcam, using Cheese. However, after I click "Start recording," the Cheese screen turns black, and Cheese seems to hang. I can click "Stop recording" sometimes -- then I get a split-second video clip. But mostly it just hangs until I force quit.
I'm on an Asus 900HA. I could record video clips on using eeebuntu and Cheese. Is there a setting I need to check?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy sound worked fine for the first few days.. then I noticed the mic wasn't working in skype so I tried messing with it in sound preferences. Now my speakers explode with this horrible distorted noise(semi-recognizable as whatever I'm trying to play) and sometimes freezes when I try to play any sound. Reinstalling just the drivers to avoid a fresh install, according to the stickied thread at the top, did nothing. Attempting to place the settings back to their defaults also does not appease this bloodthirsty beast.
I've been on a rampage through every lead I've found on trying to fix this problem but nothings worked so far.. it seems the problem is that the onboard speakers (Internal Audio; Analog Surround 4.0 Output) hates it's life in an Ubuntu OS too much to continue living. Not sure if the RS880 Audio Device [Radeon HD 4200] output is with it either.

The program opens, I do a search and then click on a item I can see the gasgauge rolling as if the item is playing but there is no sound no video. And no error messages.
I'm running 1.1.1 maverick and have tied both 1.1 and 1.2 beta, with no avail.
In the last week, whenever I play videos, online or offline, the sound and video are out of sync. Usually the sound is a full second behind the videos, but I've noticed it at less.
I just tried watching a video and whenever someone said something, the sound was a full word behind the movement of the mouth.
This never happened until recently. I think there was an update to the sound drivers a couple weeks back, but I'm not too sure.
This is true for .flv, .avi, .mov, and .mp4, at least. This is true in both vlc and movie player. Thumbnails generated from frames in the videos appear correctly in nautilus. Videos play fine in firefox, on ....., but I downloaded one as an .flv and then it had the same problem. I have restricted extras freshly installed. My "Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala" system is fully updated. I've found several other forum posts about the same kind of problem, but I couldn't find anything helpful in them (like that the contrast setting might be WAY out of whack, which it wasn't, or that nvidia drivers needed to be updated or reinstalled, which I don't have anyway, etc).

I use Exaile to play music (if that matters), and after I play music, no sound comes out of videos (not just Ubuntu, it won't work from Yahoo or MSN videos either). Then when I try to go back to playing my music on Exaile, no sound will come out of that. Likewise, if I restart the computer... the sound works again. If I instead watch a video first, there will be sound -- but as soon as I try to play music from Exaile, nothing comes out.

What I'd actually like to do is to separate out the audio track, run some filters over the audio track with Sox, and then splice it back in. I'm comfortable doing the sox-based improvements, but have no idea how to get the sound out of the video in the first place or to mix it back in. Perfectly comfortable with winding up with a non-Quicktime video as a result, though.

I checked kMix and everything is on. I tried to install pulseaudio, but I am not sure about it. Last time I saw it couldnt connect to some server or what... Although I can hear system sound and Amarok 2 plays mp3. I didnt mention that I tried to install libflashplugin and kubuntu restricted extras.
When I play a flash vid (ex. from .....) I have sound but the entire screen is simply white. When I put my mouse where where the "play/pause" button should be I can click there and they work, but its all white. Flash in chrome works just fine, I use regular ubuntu repos. (ubuntu 10.04 32 bit)

I installed sopcast to watch some football games. I setup VLC as a main player, so when I past address to sopcast and start bufforing VLC turned on and I was able to watch game, after sec some small windows with error appeared sayin' "VLC probably does not support this sound or video format "wmap"" I closed this windows and noticed there is no sound... I don't know how to fix this problem it never happend before.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a new evga nVidia GT 430 video card in my Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit system. This had the unforseen side effect of eliminating my sound.
I had no idea that the new video card would include a new sound module. My intent is for my system to use my Soundblaster Audigy2 soundcard in 5.1 output mode. The system still seems to be configured to do that, but the nVidia HDMI Stereo output module seems to have taken over in Sound Preferences.

I have a big problem with the flash plugin... Since a couple of weeks ..... and some internet sites with flash content don't work... sounds load and playback correctly but I see a grey square instead of the video.
One weird thing is that ..... videos work perfectly when tagged/embedded in another site, such as facebook or a gmail chat, but on the ..... official site I can't see a thing.
