I'm struggling to get the native Spotify on Ubuntu 10.10 working. I haven't tried it on any other version so I'm not sure if it's exclusive to 10.10.
Basically, the application loads fine, until I hover over to the left-hand side bar (playlists etc), at which point it crashes and *poof* instantly closes down.
Additional Notes: Output from terminal:
I have a server on CentOS 5.And I would like to set up an automatic forward so that every incoming message of a specified user gets forwarded to a specified email (my gmail account). In your opinion, what is the simplest solution ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been running Sony Vegas in VirtualBox. My machine is dual core 2ghz and has 2 GB RAM so the VB gets 90MB video and 950MB system. XP is 32 bits. I also have the identical set up installed natively. The native version gets the full 2 GB system and 512 video. A non scientific test tells me the VirtualBox system is faster. My camera is a new T2i which produces .MOV files. The only program that can read them without stutter is VLC in Ubuntu. Quicktime in both Windows version stutters all over the place. VLC in Windows is so bad I deleted it.
To the point: I'm going to build a new system for video editing using at least 8 GB RAM and Windows 7 (Sorry, I don't have the patience to wait for Lumeira or Lightworks). I like the fact that I can be in both environments without booting. But, I'd like some real world advise about this. In a pure 64 bit environment, will I be better off in a dual-boot situation or virtual? I'm reluctant to load up W7 on my current system because of the hassle associated with getting a new registration for the new system.
Basically as it says in the title. The second to last update about 6 or 7 weeks ago broke Spotify native. I get the following error message in the terminal:

Canadian hi-fi manufacturer Bryston is shipping a Music Player, which is in effect a pared down Linux box running some media player. The good thing is that it plays the files at their native resolution16bit/ 44. 1KHz for ripped CDs, 24/96 and 24/192 for hirez downloads, as well as other intermediate values.Does anyone happen to know which player they are using?
View 1 Replies View Relatedthere is notebook Asus M51T Series, Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic OS (regular upgrades), USB MIDI-keyboard Korg Nanokey, external USB sound card Native Instruments Audio 2 Dj and USB-MIDI-controller Numark Omni Control. With Nanokey there are no problems. Audio 2 Dj does not work normally, Omni Control at all has no driver in Ubuntu, if I have correctly understood.
For example, any application (for example a player) starts an audiostream. The sound is only the first some seconds. After that it turns to short series of clicks. Clicks chaotically appear and for lack of any prospective audiostreams. Thus built in sound card works normally.
What's the name of it in Synaptic?
edit:
Found it - flashplugin; I was looking for 'libflash'...
I'm using 10.04 LTS and I followed these instructions hoping to improve video streaming -
Code:
sudo apt-get remove kaffeine-mozilla mozilla-helix-player mozilla-mplayer mozilla-plugin-vlc totem-mozilla xine-plugin
sudo apt-get install gnome-mplayer gecko-mediaplayer
I'm having trouble streaming vids now though, they are choppier than they were and when I navigate away, the sound stays on as if the video were still playing, I have to restart to make it stop. How would I go about un-doing the above?
I've got a little problem with my 9" netbook. It came preinstalled with Ubuntu (factory install), but I reinstalled it to get a fresh karmic as it was a second hand. The problem is, whenever I plug in an external monitor, rightclick on the display icon and click "Configure Display Settings..." both monitors go black and nothing responds. Weird thing though, is that sometimes the mouse appears on the second monitor. I need a solution for this, either creating a xorg file (I have no clue on how to do that) or some other solution that works.
My netbook resolution is 1024*600, the external monitor resolution is 1024*768. It should be noted that I had a similar problem on another Ubuntu laptop (NVIDIA drivers), but it had to do with the resolution height. My laptop had 1440*900 and my external monitor needed to have the height lower then 900.
For further information, this is what the system profiler says about my graphics card:Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller.I hope you guys can help me, as plugging in a netbook to an external monitor (or TV) is not uncommon to me I like doing that, even if there's no point in it.I hope I gave enough information on this, I'm willing to give more if needed of course
I'm running WoW in Ubuntu 9.10 with wine. My screen's native resolution is 1920x1200. When I play WoW in Windows I set it to 1920x1080 in fullscreen because that aspect ratio allows me to see more of the playing field. In windows it doesn't stretch the screen so I have a black bar at the top and bottom of my screen.
When I set it to 1920x1080 under wine, it stretches my screen. Is there any way I can make it not stretch?
I tried searching forums/google but I couldn't find anything related to my question.
I actually do have a GeForce4 MX 460 in this pc. I have a 7950gt in a different pc. Oops. I guess the MX 460 cant do 1600x1200 on the dvi output but somehow it can do it on the vga output? I guess I could just use a vga connection instead of the dvi connection.
The problem I'm having is that my LCD monitor (acer AL2021) can't be used at it's native resolution of 1600x1200. This is probably because my GeForce 7950gt graphics card is not being recognized. Xorg seems to think my card is a GeForce4 M 460. (It's not, really!) I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Here's what I've been doing for the last few hours:
This didn't work. 1600x1200 is still not listed.
Tried to run nvidia driver installer:
How to enable native screen resolution in X using VESA driver? I have IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T61 with a native screen resolution of 1680x1050, but I am getting 1024x768 instead.
This is a fresh install of Debian 8.3 (latest stable) (Jessie).
The root cause of this is that nouveau graphics driver (which I was using before) was causing me kernel crashes. Full story here: [URL] .....
I use auto-text completion a lot on windows and it works very well.Is there a similar program in ubuntu? I tried one ages ago, cant remember its name, but it really wasnt that great..

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a monthful of Spotify Premium to enjoy music at the school with my laptop and Nokia E71 with the offline mode - the WiFi at our school is too laggy to stream online music. Under wine, it works quite fine, however, I would totally like to use the native client (yes, I'm too a "yay linux" person like all of you here ), but the music quality is very poor on offline mode. It clips, goes forward, a second back, then back forward etc. The bitrate sounds to be high, an the quality is very good except the annoying clipping.
Anyone else experiencing this? I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 Beta release with Samsung N510 so the cpu power should not be an issue even though the native client uses the resources very greedily. Interesting enough, on my desktop computer (Core2Quad @ 3,3GHz, 4GB 900MHz DDR2 RAM) with the same OS version and software plays offline playlists smoothly (only some occasional clipping)
my laptop screen has 1900x1280 (native resolution) and my second monitor has 1600x1080
After browsing the forums and messing around with drivers I managed to get the resolution up to 1600x1080 (from 1000x800 at install) on the laptop screen. No luck at all with the second monitor. I currently have it connected with both VGA and DVI.
my understanding is I need to use twin view to setup the second monitor. I've read several of the earlier posts but haven't been able to get it to work. Here is my current xorg.conf file:
Code:
Section "Monitor"
# HorizSync source: edid, VertRefresh source: edid
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
VendorName "Unknown"
[Code].....
I disabled KMS and checked for direct rendering with the glxinfo command. glxinfo, reported that direct rendering is enabled. This is good news, because it means that the i915 driver is being used.
[Code]....
Now, I need to write a custom xorg.conf file to force X to use the native resolutions of my chip.
Unity won't auto hide itself when I open a program, and it gets in the way of things like Google Chrome. This seems to only happen when using Unity 3D, not 2D. I'm using the experimental NVIDIA Drivers, but the problem was also present when I used the proprietary drivers. I have an Acer Aspire 5630 with a GeForce Go 7300.

Doesn't work. I have tried with xine, gxine, vlc and movie player. Inside the vcd, it has an mpegv folder. Inside the mpegv folder there is file avesq.dat. I tried copying it on to desktop, but it wont copy properly and I can't rename the file to just avesq instead of avesq.dat.Any idea how can we make such an auto run CD work on ubuntu?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can get my Plantronics USB headset to work with Skype. So far so good.
However if I plug the headset in to use with skype, I have to go to sound preferences to get the usb headset to be the selected audio device. It is automatically detected but is not selected.
Is there a way to have ubuntu netbook remix automatically select the usb headset as soon as it is detected after being plugged in?
Win7 behaves this way and my wife is used to it. Visiting the sound preferences every time the headset is plugged in won't do. Answering a call in Skype requires that the headset be selected straight away. Leaving it plugged in all the time isn't convenient either.

Don't want to have to resort to installing Win7 again.
I use a USB webcam with a built in microphone. It works fine, but every time I plug it in I have to go to sound properties and select it as the input device. There are no other input devices present on my system. Since it's the only one there, is there any way to get it to automatically select when I plug it in? If not, I think that would be good functionality to add. Does anyone know who or what team to contact about that?

I'm trying to find out how to make my ubuntu to auto switch monitors when I connect my lcd into the vga plug and also switch the desktop bars into the new monitor and also use the laptop screen as a side screen.
In setting I can turn off my laptop screen and i'll see only on the lcd screen, but I need to configure it first, I want it to be automatically and when i plugged out the lcd it's back to normal.
I have a syncmaster 171v, 17 inch monitor which is pretty nice, except that it auto-shuts off after every 2 minutes. Only associated drivers I have found at samsung are for magictune which seems to only work for a 'certain' list of video cards. me not having one for my ubuntu machine. When i plug it into my XP machine (which has one of the special cards, (AGP, ugh), it seems to work, but haven't tested out the long duration.
My current fix for the problem right now is taking the power cord out and plugging it back in. All the buttons on the monitor will not respond after the auto shut off of a whole two minutes. Seems i have a pretty useless monitor if it only works for my old XP machine, and im getting really tired of unplugging it and plugging it back in.
