Ubuntu Multimedia :: MythWeb Broken - Failed To Set Php Timezone To EDT?

Sep 23, 2010

I let the machine update the other night. Now MythWeb is broken with these lines appearing either at the top of the listings or as the only thing on the page. User Notice at /usr/share/mythtv/mythweb/classes/MythBackend.php, line 124: Failed to set php timezone to EDT Response from backend was Array ( [0] => EDT [1] => -14400 [2] => 2010-09-21T21:27:32 )

Looking at Synaptic it looks like I am at the current version.

Ubuntu Installation :: Httpd Passwords On Mythweb Won't Work After Upgraded To Lucid Lynx

May 13, 2010

My Mythweb is asking for authentication but none username/password will work. It just prompts for authentication over and over again. I've found few configurations regarding authentication:

in /etc/apache2/httpd.conf I have following lines:
<Directory "/var/www/mythweb">
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
AuthType Basic
AuthName "MythTV"
AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/httpd-passwords

none of the username/paswd pairs in Authuserfile are working? Can there be yet another file / configuraton somewhere? How do I know which one apache is using right now?

Ubuntu :: Xorg.conf Broken - KDE And GNOME Failed - Result Of Upgrading Straight From 10.04?

Oct 29, 2010

I was recently watching an avi file, when suddenly, my tower (the computer) got really, really noisy. That's pretty normal when I'm on my Windows side, but very unusual for Ubuntu Linux. I knew something was in the wind then and there. So I exit my Dragon Player to discover that ! gasp ! KDE is down, replaced with the default wallpaper for GNOME, and no bars anywhere. I reset the system only to find that it refuses to boot into either KDE or GNOME. Having been in something similar to this situation before, I decide that Xorg.conf must be broken somehow. In an effort to get to the GUI where I can safely edit it, I try reinstalling KDE and GNOME, which both failed.

So I try installing xdm...which results in only being able to access the login screen for XFCE. Whenever I try to log in using the correct credentials, it simply refreshes the log-in screen.

1. Is this, indeed, the sign of a broken Xorg.conf, or a broken Xserver in general? Or is there something larger that was changed?

2. How do I fix this? (I've already tried using Ubuntu 10.10 64 in rescue mode, but I can't seem to change anything in the system itself.)

3. Is this possibly a result of upgrading straight from 10.04? Is it possible that having both KDE and GNOME contributed to this?

Ubuntu Installation :: Broken - After Failed Upgrade To 11.04 - Everything Just Hanged - No Mouse Movement - No Hard Disk Activities

May 9, 2011

I tried to upgrade my Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 on my netbook. I choose the option to upgrade on the Update Manager. All packages had been downloaded, and the installer was busy to replace all the old packages.

During the update I noticed that my internet stopped working, so I disabled my wifi, so it couldn't interupt the upgrade. After a half an hour, I found out my internet worked again, so I pressed the wifi-button again on my laptop, so the wifi would turn on, but after that move my screen hanged, and the upgrade wasn't done yet. I pressed the powerbutton for 5 seconds, because there was nothing else I could do.. Everything just hanged, no mouse movement, no hard disk activities, just a frozen screen.

After this problem I rebooted, and I already knew what I was going to see, Ubuntu couldn't be loaded anymore (and it still can't).

Is there anybody who can help me to restore my laptop? There are really important things for college on the harddisk in the /home/ folder, but I was too stupid to forget to make a backup.. I mostly make backups of everything you can think of, but I thought it won't be neccessary.. damn..

I know that you can restore files using a live-usb (no cd, because it's a netbook), but I choose during the installation the option to 'encrypt' my documents.. So is it still possible to restore my documents, photo's etc. from the home-folder? I really need to get those things back..

When I try to boot all I get on my screen is the text (in Dutch): 'Disk partition / is not ready or is not found - Keep waiting or press S to cancel mounting, or press M to recover manually' The manual recovery doesn't do anything at all, and by the way, booting in the 'recovery mode' won't work either.

Ubuntu :: SSH "Write Failed: Broken Pipe" For Some Users

May 10, 2010

I am having a truly bizarre problem when trying to set up my sheeva plug as a backup server. I have four users (one for each member of my family) that I want to give permission to ssh in (well, sftp in but they're essentially the same) and backup to an external harddrive.

My user works perfectly well and has done since I got the plug. So does a transmission user I set up to run the transmission daemon. With the other three users, however, I get the following error after SSH asks for the user's password:

Code:

Write failed: Broken pipe

This happens whether I try locally or over my network. I haven't been able to find a solution to it at all. I've made sure that /bin/bash was set as the shell and that the home directory is writeable with the correct permissions (ls -al /home):

Code:

drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Dec 21 19:25 .
drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 4096 Dec 17 19:27 ..

[code]...

The alternative for me would be to use netatalk and AFP but the problem is that there is no native support for AFP and so things like dja dup backup may not be able to mount the afp drive...

Ubuntu Networking :: Ssh "Connection Reset By Peer" - Write Failed: Broken Pipe

Feb 9, 2010

which cropped up today after no changes to the system: I can successfully ssh into my ubuntu 64-bit 9.10 machine (via OS X with iTerm), but after about 30 seconds, the connection drops with the message "Connection reset by peer Connection to xx.xx.xx.xx closed".

If I then try to immediately ssh back in I get: "Write failed: Broken pipe". If I try to immediately ping the machine instead, I cannot ping it until the ~10th try. Eventually I can log back in again, only to be kicked off after between 5 and 60 seconds. I called the network people and their are no known issue right now with networking. The networking on the ubuntu machine is otherwise fine, it seems. In the /var/log/auth.log file, it simple says:

Quote:
Feb 9 14:19:20 harriet sshd[4134]: Accepted password for xxx from xx.xx.xx.xx port 55105 ssh2
Feb 9 14:19:20 harriet sshd[4134]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user xxx by (uid=0)
Feb 9 14:19:28 harriet sshd[4046]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session closed for user xxx

The solution I come across to a similar problem is to add a "ClientAwakeInterval" number to sshdconfig, but this (as expected) doesn't fix my problem.

Debian Multimedia :: VLC Playback Broken By Deb-multimedia Upgrade

Jun 14, 2011

I am using debian squeeze and did an aptitude upgrade yesterday. Today I've found that VLC won't play any video; the files open and the audio plays, but the video is black. The aptitude log is below.

I note that VLC received a security upgrade a few days ago, but my suspicion is that the source of this problem is more likely to be the upgrade of libavcodec52 from version 4:0.5.2.6 -> 5:0.6.1+svn20101128-0.2. I believe this upgrade came from the debian-multimedia stable repo I have enabled.

Does this sound right, and what could I do to fix my VLC playback? This is new territory for me, and I'm slightly surprised that such an upgrade would come from the stable branch of debian-multimedia (although I know this is not an official source).

Hence I can script is easily. But in ubuntu, with "dpkg-reconfigure tzdata", I don't know how to script it.

I already tried to edit php.ini with command :

I deleted ; and so under [Date] section is now following sentence: date.timezone = Europe/Helsinki
after that restarted apache /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Server :: How To Get Info About Current Timezone

Jan 13, 2010

I was wondering if there is a way of knowing what is the current set timezone for a linux server. I know that "date +%Z" gives the 3 letter abbreviation of the timezone, but then CST can be interpreted as Central Standard Time (US) and as China Standard Time. I'm looking for a way I could tell what is the real timezone, e.g. "Asia/Jerusalem", "Europe/London", etc. I know that I can set the timezone by symlinking /usr/share/zoneinfo/<Timezone Name> to /etc/localtime, but when I freshly install CentOS and choose my timezone, /etc/localtime isn't a symlink at all so I can't use this info...

CentOS 5 :: Timezone Change Not Working?

Oct 6, 2010

I was needing to change the timezone on a CentOS 5.1 (but upgraded to 5.3) machine that doesn't have X installed nor did it (initially) have the system-config-date package installed. After some Googling it appeared that all I needed to do was copy over the desirec zoneinfo file to /etc/localtime and edit the /etc/sysconfig/clock file to zone that I choose. I then set the time and used that to set the hardware clockhe original timezone was "America/New_York" (EDT) and was wanting to change it to "US/Central" (CDT). After making the changes, when I do a "date" command it is still reporting the time in EDT. I then installed the system-config-date package and tried using /usr/sbin/timeconfig. I still get the result that the timezone is reported in EDT. The time is technically correct but is an hour ahead since its using EDT to report the time.

Ubuntu Installation :: 11.04 Natty Installer Hangs At Timezone Select

Aug 11, 2011

I've just decided to downgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit Ubuntu. I created a live USB from the most recent (as of today) 11.04 download, booted up, and selected the option to replace Ubuntu. (Also on my HDD are a Windows partition and a shared partition for documents.)The installer hung at the timezone select page - and, foolishly, I hard-restarted the PC. I can get into 'try Ubuntu' without problems, but every time I try to actually install, it hangs. I can't boot into Windows, since GRUB seems to have been overwritten in my failed partial install. (I can get to a 'grub rescue' prompt, though.)

I suspected it might have something to do with my internet connection - I need to go through a university proxy script, so I'm not sure whether the installer will actually have internet access, even after I've been able to apply proxy settings while running Ubuntu from the USB.

Fedora Installation :: F12 Fails To Install Timezone

Feb 26, 2010

I'm newbie in Linux, but have used Windows and Mac OS X Leopard. Used RedHat in the past, and can't figure this out. I burned Fedora12-x86_64 DVD image on DVD, and start install. Whether I use "linux text" command from boot or just select Install at graphical prompt, everything goes OK until I select hostname. I leave it as "localhost.localdomain" and press Enter. It always give me an error "Can't load class=TimeZoneWindow".

My computer is connected via ethernet to my router, and I had no problems getting online in Windows. Now, in case there are hardware questions:
Intel Pentium 4 with HyperThread enabled and 64bit support (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit runs perfectly in 64bit mode)
2Gb of DDR 400Mhz RAM
I have 2 SATA hard drives with RAID option as Mirror (BIOS settings - RAID or AHCI)
And 128Mb ATI RAdeon X300 series. Pretty simple, but this error aborts my installation.

I tried to do Anaconda updates, but I have no clue about URL where the image is, ex:
linux updates=[URL]
or I tried configuring network:
linux ip=192.168.1.113 netmask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.1.1 dns=68.193.158.40,24.115.70.53
and no luck. Why does "Can't load class=TimeZoneWindow" appear? Is it a network issue or what? I've seen the screenshot for TimeZone screen in the Installation Guide, but I never get to it.
