Want to record an Internet radio broadcast. If I go to the relevant website and click on the streaming option, I get a box that offers me a choice of programs with which to open the stream. Right now it only has "Movie Player (default)" from which to choose.
If I click "other" then I have to tell the program where the VLC media player executable file is located.
How do I find this location?

I'm vaguely remembering a video stream ripper that was open source and could be compiled for linux, mac, and windows. It's name ended with ++ and I can't remember anything else Basically, it was like StreamTransport but open source and multiprotocol capable. Can anybody help me find it again? I'd be open to alternatives too of course! My basic need is to rip anything being rendered by my video card.

I have restarted the computer, restarted apache, etc and still nothing. When I first installed, phpmyadmin was inaccessible, so I ran some command in terminal which apparently created a symlink between phpmyadmin in the user/share dir to the /var/www dir, and curious if this is the problem. I have no clue how to remove this symlink if this is the case, and have phpmyadmin working now due to install using sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin.

I've used VLC for years, in both windows and linux. In windows streaming, you can select "NONE" for a Video Input, and just stream audio. This is not the case for Ubuntu's version.What can I do to stream just audio in VLC?

I have been recording some demos from games like Quake 3, 4, and Doom 3. Now, I've been able to use Quake Video Maker in the past to take the Targa frames that the games export, and then combine those into a movie. I figured that if I import it into Kino, then I should be able to edit just fine. Except, when I import it into Kino, the video just hangs on the first frame for the first half, and then plays the whole video at double the speed.Is there a better package that will take a lot of image files and export them into a movie file? Preferably one where I don't have to add each frame manually, as the demo I'm working with now has 5000+ frames.

I have two networked Ubuntu 10.40 machines and I am trying to stream audio from one machine to the other. I find on the surface everything works - I simply installed padevchooser and set the pulseaudio sink to the other machine. Now here comes the problem - whenever I do anything else involving network activity the sound crackles and hangs and it becomes hopeless. I've seen people elsewhere online complaining about crackling in relation to CPU usage but I can't find anyone talking about network usage.
In particular I often work on my office computers over VNC. I try to fire up VNC and it starts to load the remote desktop and the sound completely fails. I assume this is some kind of latency issue? Another good example is trying to watch a video on ..... - the sound plays at first but then as the video is being downloading in the background the stream starts to mess up. Listening to an mp3 in totem with no other network activity works fine.
I have a NAS set up (ubuntu server 10.04) which contains all my music. But when I play music from it, I can not see how long the song is and I can not skip to a specific time in the song. When I play video, all works well.

We have a second volume that we formatted and mounted as /media/data/videos/flv. We have changed the path in the lighttpd config file to match this. When we play the video we are receiving:200, Stream not found, NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound, clip" "[Clip]"/media/data/videos/flv/test.flv".

I would like to set up my Linux box as a media streamer. I have Media Tomb set up so that the PS3, Xbox and other PCs can access my media over the LAN but I want to listen to my music on my iPhone when I am at work. What is the best way to do this? I have searched the interwebs as well as these forums with confusing results. I have found many options to stream while on my LAN but few to stream over the internet.
I rarely watch video on my iPhone so that is not a feature I need, just music.

my problem is regarding .asx live streams. Up till 2-3 weeks ago I was able to listen to [URL] perfectly well with Totem under Ubuntu 9.10.
Since then whenever I want to start the stream, Totem darkens and nothing happens. I've tried Mplayer and VLC as well but neither of them work (but that's not news because they didn't work when Totem did either).
I had a look at the recent package updates in Synaptic to see if any audio-related ones had been changed and I have downgraded libaudiofile0 (to version 0.2.6-7ubuntu2) and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad (to version 0.10.14-4ubuntu1). The problem still remained, so I updated them again.
The radio chanel works perfectly under Windows, and other .asx streams (for example [URL]) are working fine with Totem in Ubuntu.
I would like to know how to demux the audio from a flash video file (copied from /tmp while browsing a video site). I would prefer to avoid re encoding if possible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it would be possible to set up a server on my desktop that has a folder of videos converted to iPhone formats that I can access with my iPhone over the internet to stream videos to my phone?I started by setting up a server and used no-ip2 to create a domain name so I didn't have to worry about my dynamic ip changing.Then I tried unsuccessfully to transcode a DVD to iPhone format using Arista, Transmaggedon, and Avidemux, none of which I could get to properly work.
Finally I used iUI (URL...) to create a site that would appear as a simple menu to search through my movies on my website and stream them.This failed in that every time I set a static link it would change it to URL...
Is it possible to record an Internet radio stream? I don't mean the audio output, I mean the stream itself, which often contains additional data such as track and artist details.
I guess what I'm asking is how to record the stuff that goes /into/ my media player, rather than what comes out of it. But maybe dealing with raw data like this would result in huge files and be impractical?

We have a Jetway JBC600C99-52W-B (Mini-top) with Xubuntu 10.10 and Logitech Z-205 USB Speakers but I have no sound. EDIT: fixed after installing gnome-volume-control and selecting my output device. Now i have a other problem, when i stream a video it plays sound for 1 second and when i click the play button it works fine for a while but after a few minutes the audio stops again. the video plays fine.
